To think the average Londoner is better looking?

I’m from a town near Manchester. Often go to towns nearby and into Manchester. There are all sorts of people of course.

I am currently in London and I can’t get out of my head that the average person here is much more attractive than the average person outside of London. I can’t place why. Is it that people here have more dosh for skincare?😂

If you walk round central London through the day you see wealthy tourists.
if you walk round my local town through the day you see the locals who don’t work so possibly hard up and the addicts collecting their meth prescription and others with time on their hands and charity shop shoppers (as that is the majority of shops) so not the same demographic.

Are they just wearing less clothes, because the tube is so unbearably hot? Whereas, in my town, people are walking round in hats, scarves and winter puffer jackets?

I'm guessing you don't live up North were young people seem to be allergic to a coat.

childofspace · 16/03/2025 21:49

I’ve noticed this whenever I’ve been to London. Everyone has a bit more of a ‘glow’ and even if not stereotypically attractive they look put together and cool. I saw a woman the other day near Chancery Lane station who was so beautiful she looked like she almost wasn’t real I had to stop myself staring as she almost looked like one of those AI pictures 😂

JandamiHash · 16/03/2025 21:51

I don’t know why people act like London is some rich fancy part of the world. Last few times I’ve been there I thought it looked like an absolute shit hole

Gowlett · 16/03/2025 21:52

In the same way that Parisians / New Yorkers would compare to the rest of France / USA.

Yanbu. It's the way Londoners hold themselves. Comfortable in their own skin.
They are also generally kinder and more tolerant than those in other parts of the country which comes out in their faces - a smile makes everone look more attractive than a frown.
People in the "regions" always seem to be scowling / complaining / blaming someone else. Not attractive behaviours.

Call us ugly if you want but northerners are sooo much more friendly than Londoners. I hate London. Everyone is so rude. If you dare to talk to a stranger they look at you like you've just curled one out on the pavement in front of them.

minnienono · 16/03/2025 21:55

average wealth, average age, the fact that it’s self selecting who is in central London (non residential areas.)

no single answer but when I’m in central London I’m not seeing the average Londoner basically because there’s multiple “centres” within London unlike smaller cities which have a city centre and no other place to congregate so to speak

All 8+ million Londoners? 🤣

yep. I do think where I am (posh North Yorks) has v good looking people. Who actually say hello! I love going on a walk round these parts as I meet so many lovely people and always manage a nice chat with one or two. That would be seen as weird in London

Diningtableornot · 16/03/2025 09:29

Not better looking but often better turned out and more expensively dressed. Also younger!!

You can be “expensively dressed” by shopping in charity shops too ☺️

Definitely slimmer though, probably lots of walking, more money for gym, better educated on nutrition etc.

Itsalljustinmyhead · 16/03/2025 22:11

In my experience this is a ‘thing’ - city people are better looking and dressed than those in rural towns.

Dweetfidilove · 16/03/2025 22:11

I met a young lady from Wales who thought we looked shabby as hell, and couldn't believe the lack of effort we put into dressing for an outing 😊.

Seventree · 16/03/2025 22:11

I think people in London generally look slimmer and more stylish but not more attractive. I don't know if it's the pollution or tiredness from having so much entertainment on their doorstep, but I always think people look less healthy in London than 'up north'.

That’s because you’re much better, more authentic, salt-of-the-earth people than those weird Londoners you speak of. Just a better class of person.

Itsalljustinmyhead · 16/03/2025 22:14

I’m not from London but I absolutely love Londoners. The accent, the sense of humour, just everything. I don’t recognise what people say about them being unfriendly at all. I used to go a lot for work and quite a few people went out of their way to help me with directions and so on.

Pipsquiggle · 16/03/2025 22:23

When I first took my Londoner DH to my northern home town, one of the most striking differences for him was that there were so many disabled people and more poverty

There is just so much more money in London - particularly central parts

NewMarmiteJar · 16/03/2025 22:37

For sure mate, Londoners dazzle.

HeyThereDelila · 16/03/2025 22:40

It’s because they’re wealthier.

It’s awful and frankly heartbreaking to say it, but it’s true.

We live in a very well off part of the country- when we visit some v poor areas to visit family, often some of the people we see look under nourished and very unhealthy. It’s money and diet.

SixtySomething · 16/03/2025 22:45

Perhaps it's because there are so many more young people in London. Youth and attractiveness are conflated in our society.
Plus, don't forget that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You might have a different idea of beauty from me.
Actually, I don't agree that people in London are more attractive. They don't smile; they just push past you at speed. But I'm an oldie talking!

Livelovebehappy · 16/03/2025 23:05

You’re kidding right? The last time I was there (and I lived in London a few years ago for a period of time) it was full of very shady, scruffy looking chancers (apart from the tourists who were pretty identifying).I’ve no doubt there are a few glamorous people there somewhere, this is London after all, but far more beautiful people in cities like Rome and Paris.

Becs258 · 16/03/2025 23:37

I’m from London and go back regularly, can’t say I’ve noticed it there. However, on a trip to Liverpool, the men were decidedly better looking. So maybe it’s taste. Maybe it’s where you come from 🤷‍♀️

Itsalljustinmyhead · 17/03/2025 06:39

Interestingly a school mum who moved here from Cape Town a couple of years ago said the most striking difference to her was how many disabled people we have, plus people who for want of a better word are ‘odd’. We have a lot of people who sit on benches with cans of beer half out of it, or sit vaping in their mobility school, talking to themselves.

CheekyNameChange123 · 17/03/2025 06:45

I agree! We live near Manchester and whenever I go into town it strikes me how unattractive 90% of the population is…. Down south generally people are more attractive it must be due to socio-economic factors.

CurrentHun · 17/03/2025 06:50

London people are friendly. And from all over the world and have a different energy to the rest of UK. It’s having money ( in some cases) and an outlook as well. More open.

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · 17/03/2025 06:56

People are noticeably a lot thinner.

More likely to be childfree in London, so more time to spend on selves.
