No, MN, I will not disable my ad block

The pop up is ridiculous and is making the site unusable. I've had to click to dismiss it several times just trying to post this.

Fix the ads so they're not massive and intrusive and maybe I'll consider turning it off.

You do not have a choice anymore

read the HQ update

AnotherDelphinium · 03/03/2025 16:34

Same. I use safari and it’s “block distracting features” to get rid of it.

Fed up of soooooo many ads.

NeverHecklePeterKay · 03/03/2025 16:34

it only allows a few times of clicking then you have to.. I'm leaving the site now due to it, Made it unusable for me now so no point staying anymore.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 03/03/2025 16:35

No, nor will I. If I can't view, then tu da lu Mumsnet!

WarmWhite · 03/03/2025 16:36

Same here

Well, we do. The choice is to delete the account and no longer use Mumsnet. 🤷‍♂️. Or, start paying (nope, that's not gonna happen).

Yes well that is patently obvious

but we are talking specifically about the disablement of ad blockers

glad you finally understood!

Misaster · 03/03/2025 16:40

But let’s face it…. No one saying they will cease to ever use mumsnet again, will actually follow through

name changes galore on the horizon

Misaster · 03/03/2025 16:41

The type of mumsnetters to be so irritated by this, is precisely the mumsnetter that likely spend quite a bit of time on mumsnet! 😂

MeanderingGently · 03/03/2025 16:43

I agree, very annoying. I have a block on the ads and if I have to remove it I will totally leave the site.
It isn't just the ads, it's the 'cookies' which come with them, harvesting data and I want the choice to reject cookies. MN isn't the only site to do this, I have noticed others on the internet....if I exercise my choice to reject cookies, I can't proceed unless I pay up or give them my email and data consent.
No, I just don't proceed. I take great care to leave as small a digital footprint as possible and I do not want to be part of some bloody marketing thing, so goodbye......

CarobyBlobs · 03/03/2025 16:44

Are we going to get another cringey “help us keep the lights on” begging post?

crackofdoom · 03/03/2025 16:46

Oh shit. I'm autistic and can't cope with autoplay videos and things that jiggle and flicker.

Nope, I'm done. Been posting sporadically for a while and tbh can put the time to better use.

Some won't have a choice. If we allow ads the ads are so huge they cover the screen and won't go so it will be pointless even trying.

You are funny! You made an incorrect statement about not having a choice. It was correctly pointed out to you that, yes, we do have a choice. So actually, ner, ner, na, ner, ner, re your unwarranted and puerile 'finally understood' missive - I am rubber, you are glue; bounces off me and sticks to you. 😁

amicisimma · 03/03/2025 16:47

I was wondering what to give up for Lent. Now I conveniently have the answer - Mumsnet!

So thank you, MNHQ.

SnoozingFox · 03/03/2025 16:49

The reason I was using an ad blocker was because of the spam McAffee pop up which people have been reporting on and off since about October.

Disabled the ad blocker yesterday, got the pop up again. I don't object to advertising per se. It's a necessary evil. I do object to scam sites covering the screen and telling me my computer is infected

Sorry, can't find it behind the massive Give Us Your Data message.

ThejoyofNC · 03/03/2025 16:51

There's a thread in site stuff about it.

I find it really cheeky all the new rules they're bringing in, whilst there don't appear to be any updates that actually benefit the users.

Tara336 · 03/03/2025 16:51

I'll just stop using MN then, I don't want to see ads and don't want to be bullied into it. I'd rather just not bother

Misaster · 03/03/2025 16:52

There’s going to be SO many name changes in the coming weeks!

crackofdoom · 03/03/2025 16:58

The thing with forced ads or pay- per- view on other sites is that you're paying for their content. But with Mumsnet, we're the ones making the content 🤔.

steff13 · 03/03/2025 17:00

I don't know if everyone gets the same ads, but ones I get are horribly obtrusive. They slide up and cover the whole page.
