I sent a friend request on FB as I was falling asleep

I also

invited someone accidentally to a facebook group which was totally outside that person’s demographic-

  • think sending a Facebook group invite to a 70 year old for something they’re likely to have NO knowledge of or interest in!

THEN next morning o woke up to a status on Facebook from that person
“Thanks for inviting me to your group”

Grin

I did this as I was falling asleep with phone in hand

One of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever done was writing the name of the person I had a crush on in what I thought was the search bar in my half asleep state and I’d actually written it as my status. I still cringe about it now, 15 years later. 😬😬🤦🏼‍♀️

I did that the very first time I used FB too. Luckily it was just some woman I had read about and decided to look up their profile, not a bloke I fancied. Thank God. Oh the shame. 😂

Accidental liking a post is SO easily done and this is the reason everyone needs a fake account purely for nosiness purposes and for posting in public groups if you are fond of your privacy. Imagine the horror being caught out looking at your ex boyfriends wife's fb story when you didn't realise that the person posting a story can see who has viewed it? Or accidentally sending her a friends request? Shock

I did exactly the same! Was also around 15 years ago and I worked with the lad at the time. Thought I was searching for ‘James Anderson’ and actually accidentally set my status as ‘James Anderson’.

At the time on primitive smartphones with primitive Facebook you could upload statuses but not delete them until you got on a proper PC and I worked at a shop with only the shop systems. What a day that was.

gotmyknickersinatwist · 13/02/2025 00:06

I was once having a nosey at the wedding pics of an ex. The relationship with him was pretty much based on fucking great sex, although we took trips, went out loads and had mutual friends.
Years had passed, we were literally oceans apart, and I had children with my then and now DP. I was looking at the wedding photos, lots posted by mutual friends, ex's wife was tagged so I had a nosey at her profile. You know where this is going.
In my defence I had a toddler and a newborn and was housebound and a bit stir crazy but I didn't realise until a few YEARS later that I had inadvertently sent her a friend request. I was horrified, absolutely mortified.
She had politely ignored it. 😳

Although not as bad as when my friend was new to Snapchat and tried to send a dirty photo to her boyfriend and accidentally set it to go out on her public story. She turned up at the local pub that night and half the bar had seen her fanny.

I will never forget the post on here about a woman who was stalking photos of her ex, his wife and their new baby, and accidentally managed to tag herself in a photo as the baby.

I am crying 😂😂 Can you imagine the panic.

Even just reading that makes me want to claw at my face like a madwoman.

I allowed my mum to befriend me on Facebook when I moved abroad, several years after I first started using it. One day I was back at her house and found these little photo albums she had got printed. She had basically been stalking through my old photos, saving them and printing them off. Doing the same with my cousins' photos too. I was mortified, although nothing incriminating was there. It really stopped me posting many photos after that.

YourLoftySeal · 13/02/2025 00:16

im talking to this guy on snapchat. Ive never met him but ive been talking to him for about 4 days. We are planning on going on a double date and he seems excited about it. He’s super flirty and I don’t mind it because I really like him but when he’s at school he leaves me on delivered for hours and hours and I can see he’s online. When I get home from school I usually text him again or send him a snap to get his attention and he usually responds asap, then we talk back and forth for a while. In the morning I always say “good morningggg” and he usually responds right away but I feel like if I don’t say it first he won’t say anything. Is this just normal for guys to do this or is he not interested?

HashtagBlessedHashtagGrateful · 13/02/2025 00:18

I remember the post about the MNetter who tagged herself into the baby photo. Is that in Classics? I'd love to read it again, it was so mortifying and funny.

I have never allowed my mum to be on my facebook. That's exactly the sort of thing she would do.

somethingbeginningwithb · 13/02/2025 00:28

My toddler sent out a flurry of inappropriate friend requests, mostly friends of friends of friends who I knew of but had never had a meaningful interaction with, making me look like a complete stalker.

Still, this is nowhere near as bad as my friend who clearly thought she was Googling and posted 'Pornhub' as her status. 😬

CoffeCrispsChocolateAndCats · 13/02/2025 00:32

I had a whats app call with a relative. My sweaty face joined 2 extra people on the call including my 16 year old daughter! The other person didnt answer thank goodness. It was a dull call (to her) and she didn't hear anything she didn't already know! dont call via whats app now... Thank you hot flushes!

somethingbeginningwithb · 13/02/2025 00:37

My friend's considerably older sister tags herself in every single photo my friend posts, even though she wasn't there when any of those photos were taken. For instance, she tagged herself in every photo my friend shared of my hen weekend, even though I'd never met her then!

The sister also posts soft focus edits of my friend, random cats, and love hearts, accompanied by trite 'live, laugh, live' messages. My friend is allergic to cats.

rainbowunicorn · 13/02/2025 00:47

Redglitter · 12/02/2025 22:54

My Mum tried to hit the 'care' button on a post where someone posted their Dad had died. She hit the laughing one instead!!

Thankfully as luck would have it we were on a family holiday at the time and she came rushing through to my room absolutely horrified and nearly in tears.

Changed it before anyone saw it - we think 🤦🏻‍♀️

I've often thought they should move the care one we'll awa from the laughing. Put it at the end not right beside each other.

Edited

My aunt always used to tag this friend of hers in every single photo, including family photos of occasions where the friend wasn't present. I've never spoken to this Erin person, but at one point years ago she'd been tagged in so many photos of family occasions that according to those daft Facebook quizzes, Erin was my soulmate. (I've since untagged her.)

FortuneFaded · 13/02/2025 01:29

I was stalking a mystery Ancestry DNA match’s profile, and accidentally liked a photo. Quick panic, mortification, unliked then blocked, just in case it sent a message to say Fortune liked the photo of you from 4 years ago.

My toddler has clicked the "is this available" auto-message button on FB marketplace before... I've had to send messages to say I'm sorry but I'm not actually interested, it was my small child... 🤦‍♀️

Same toddler has also been responsible for some random "pocket" (suppose that should say "toddler") dials... this once led to a random but funny and lovely text conversation with the lady who owned our youngest cat before he came to us as a kitten, about 6 years prior to the "toddler dial"!

My uncle gave his then-four year old granddaughter an old phone handset to play with (it had rubbish battery, so he'd put the SIM card in a new handset) - he had forgotten that the old handset could still connect to his WiFi, so the granddaughter was able to message people a load of rubbish.

Around the same time, his older granddaughter (she would have been 8) got hold of his actual phone and WhatsApped a load of random emojis to the plumber (I think she meant them for another relative, who has the same first name, and selected the wrong contact).

Topsyturvy78 · 13/02/2025 01:36

I left mine on messenger fell asleep. Accidentally set up a group chat some off my Facebook others some randoms I didn't know. Then I get oh hello why are we here?🤣🤣🤣I didn't think they would believe me so said sorry I've been hacked.

Gorgeousfeet · 13/02/2025 01:40

I’ve done some really silly things on FB but my most embarrassing had to be on a WhatsApp call to my DH who was abroad at the time. Whilst chatting amicably about everything with him and moaning about this that and the other.. I had in fact invited five other people to our call, 3 of whom were school Mums. I only knew as one of the Mums text me to say she didn’t think the conversation she was listening to was for her ears!! I was mortified as I was half pissed at the time and we’d been chatting for ages.. so goodness only knows what I had said 😬

A relative did that to me. Framed one on their mantlepiece.

Poppymeldrum · 13/02/2025 09:46

I'm nc with my narc family but keep my insta public for my own amusement as I know I'm being stalked by them

Every so often, they'll like a picture then unlike it but I still get the notification (they don't seem to think I do)

It's the same with facebook-i get a notification if someone likes a comment

They have also tagged themselves in photos of dp and I so I know they are keeping themselves informed on my life

Amuses me no end

Oh god I did the same, and I was such a newbie to FB that I didn't know how to change it. I posted a horrified comment underneath explaining my mistake - which only drew more attention to it.
I didn't realise how easy it was to fix...... 😔

bullrushes · 13/02/2025 10:03

I contributed to a memorial fund for an acquaintance that had sadly passed away and hit the wrong button for "title" So instead of "Mrs Bullrushes" my comment came up as being from "Baby Bullrushes"

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 13/02/2025 10:12

@LionAndEmperor13 🤣 hopefully when she gets to 40 she'll remember saying that and be mortified. I know I am when I look back at things I thought/said about people who seemed sooooo old to me but were really just around the age I am now 😳.
