I do not believe in gender identity.

SernieBanders · 04/02/2025 09:05

There are two sexes: male and female. Occasionally, that matters.

There is no such thing as an innate gender identity—no internal essence that makes someone more inclined to wear dresses and sip wine, or football boots and down pints. Those are cultural stereotypes, not proof of some mystical gendered soul.

The idea of gender identity is sexist, misogynistic, and regressive. It reinforces outdated norms instead of challenging them. Women do not need an inner feeling of womanhood to be women. Men do not need a gender identity to be men. Sex is real. Stereotypes are not.

I hope with the flurry of cultural changes, legal challenges, scientific findings and executive orders in the last ~12 months, more people feel able to stand up and be counted, and say - No More.

God, the constant MN transphobia posts is actually getting boring now. When I think about the amount of times trans women or trans men have made me feel uncomfortable, it’s literally zero. The amount of times cis men have made me feel uncomfortable - off the fucking scale. And that goes for transphobic bigots too.

grannyof3 · 04/02/2025 21:01

SernieBanders · 04/02/2025 11:55

Can you explain what it is please?

They can’t explain what it is because there is no evidence that any such nonsense exists. It’s to do with feelings. It’s not like hearing voices but it’s on the same lines

OP are you new to Mumsnet? You are not going to get much disagreement on this here, the majority (myself included) probably share your views on this.

I was hoping it might still be a good gauge of public opinion!

These posts are equally boring. Ploppers. How does one tell the difference between a trans woman (male) who isn't intent on causing harm from a male who is? Both are male.

Where is the transphobia? All I can see is biological facts being discussed!

Clearly @Embear91 has no children being taught at school that they can change from girl to boy and vice versa
nor ever had to be in a women’s shelter or prison with men
so as they have not been effected personally everything’s fine
I haven’t been personally effected by knife crime but I want knives banned

Kalalily · 04/02/2025 22:07

StrongerThanYouTh1nk · 04/02/2025 19:45

As a young girl I was obsessed with wanting to be a boy. As a young woman I didn't want to have children. Thankfully, gender reconstruction wasn't a thing then so I was allowed to mature, to grow up and to change my mind when I was ready. Our children may be unable to do so.

Hopefully these children will be protected by the fact that people are now willing to speak up and question the science - or lack thereof. Thanks to the brave whistleblowers at the Tavistock there is hope that kids in the future can be protected from unscrupulous gender clinics. And psychologists are becoming more confident to work in this area so hopefully the tide is changing and the autistic, gender questioning kids of the future will be protected.

Re: the days of no debate being over: Not sure how much debate I’ve seen on this post. Just lots of people enjoying sharing similar views and the op feeling really good about all of this.

Everyone with a different view to the majority on this post has been shot down.

I didn’t even go into my view but just contested whether mumsnet was a representative sample and was told to ‘move on’. Perhaps one day interpreting statistics will also be taught effectively in schools…

Yes, the ‘no debate’ demanded of TRA’s when speaking of potentially harmful ideology over biological reality is over. That’s a good thing. Is people sharing similar views a bad thing?

People, like yourself, are more than welcome to put forward different views, but people are sick of different views being presented that can’t be backed up with evidence, stats or pretty much anything else but ‘I’m saying so’, and if you disagree I’m going to shout ‘echo chamber’ or ‘you’re all big transphobe bigots’.

If you believe in something at least be able to define what that thing is. Start with that, the majority can’t.

Thirteenblackcat · 04/02/2025 22:35

SerafinasGoose · 04/02/2025 17:14

It's impossible for gender to 'match' sex. Gender is a set of socially-constructed, constantly-shifting stereotypes which are only arbitrarily attached to sex. There's no biological reality which says long hair, the colour pink, dresses, cosmetics, cooking and caring are automatic attributes of having been born a member of the female sex. There's also nothing even approaching reality which says that if you don those stereotypical markers, you become a member of the sex class which you are not.

In previous eras men had long hair, wore stockings and high heels, and pink was a boys' colour. Were they all really women?

Sex is a question of whether you produce large or small gametes. We are a bimorphic species (and it doesn't make any difference to humans whatsoever that clown fish are not).

I’m not sure you meant to quote me but anyway. Yes

Edited to say - in response to accidentallywesanderson.
Have you read my posts? I was querying something quite specific - eg that it is not valid to compare an AIBU score today with a few years ago or to call AIBU scores quantified/quantifiable evidence.

Also - this is AIBU.
You talk of ‘people being sick of…’ as if one particular group own this thread….

and that is how it comes across in this thread overall to be honest. It feels like a strange dynamic.
I do appreciate your response though.

More than one person agree with something. What a shocker. Not sure why that’s a strange dynamic for you but there you go.
Cheers.

Actually yes. I do find it strange when the majority viewpoint in a group talks really sarcastically or swears (even in abbreviation) at anyone challenging their view / trying to unpick something they’ve said.

If you’re not enjoying MN, then fair enough!

However, if you did stick around, you might even find that you changed your mind on this subject. I did, but it took me about three years.
