Housing association saying I’m unreasonable I don’t think I am !!!

The HA need to do planned repair/upgrade work. The appt slots are 830-1230 or 130-530.
I asked them to book mine around school runs but twice they’ve turned up when I’m out ? Now saying that if they are ‘refused entry’ a third time it will lead to further action???

Surely they have to be fair about this and come at a time that works for everyone

What further action?

HAunreasonable · 24/01/2025 08:25

They haven’t specified what ‘further action’ is !

I don't think you'll get anywhere. When I lived in a HA property I had to book full days off work for this kind of thing.

Can you not ask someone else to do the school run for that one day? Or ask a neighbour to keep an eye out and open the door for them if they turn up whilst you're gone?

Flyonthewall01 · 24/01/2025 08:27

Is this not the same as any work being done. Like British Gas just give a vague time slot that’s multiple hours. They tend to just fit people into the day according to location and how long the previous job took. They probably can’t say for definite that they’ll avoid a time as it will depend on the day

There’s nobody else who can do
the school run and no suitable neighbours to ask (one is very elderly , one works nights and the others I hardly see I think they work )

It’s hard, but normal. It’s not housing association, it’s everything.

Dairymilkisminging · 24/01/2025 08:29

Can you not just leave them a set of keys? Hide them somewhere? That's what we did

MayaPinion · 24/01/2025 08:31

This is normal for any kind of work on a house. They fit you in when they can get to you but don’t know how long the previous job will take. We had a plumber estimate 2.30om last week but he showed up at 12.30pm because his previous jobs didn’t take as long as he expected.

I asked about this and they said I have to be there ?

This is normal for any kind of work done on a house or delivery.

Either get your kid to school on their own (taxi?) or leave a key under a plant pot.

FOJN · 24/01/2025 08:32

Can you book during the school holidays?

It’s not an option to send dc to school alone but I suggested leaving a key as have a key safe they said no !

You'll have to let the school know that you will have to drop the children late on that particular day. Not much else you can do

Viviennemary · 24/01/2025 08:33

Just make arrangements and get the work done. YABU.

HAunreasonable · 24/01/2025 08:33

They never have availability I’ve asked

Ask them to put you first on the list for an afternoon appointment. It depends what the repair work is but they will want to get in to do it.

Wellwhynotthen · 24/01/2025 08:34

My school has emergency slots for one offs breakfast club so dc could be dropped off and you back at home before 8.30. Id ask a school parent to help.

You wont get anywhere with HA. Maybe put your phone number on the door to say if no.answer please call 123456..

Further action could be them entering the property with someone from HA as a witness.

Melonportal · 24/01/2025 08:34

Can the kids go to breakfast or after school club?

They won’t authorise the absence though as it could end up a whole morning or afternoon off

Does the school have a breakfast club that does one off sessions?

Unfortunately this is just how life works.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 24/01/2025 08:35

Have you left a note on the door? Saying you'll be back in 10 minutes ir something? I've done that before (not HA but other services)

MALJST978 · 24/01/2025 08:35

Ask another parent to do the school run for you on that day.

shellyleppard · 24/01/2025 08:35

Drop the children off early for a breakfast club??? Or pick up later for the afternoon appointment?? Appreciate its difficult waiting in for them to turn up
