I find conspiracy theories really interesting. I have never ‘believed’ any of them, more enjoy discussing them and how likely it seems that they could be true. I also think it’s more far fetched to believe that everything we have ever been told or ever will be told is the whole truth.

Are there any CTs you believe in? Lead me down a rabbit hole please!

I think it's quite likely there are other inhabited planets the universe is infinite so the earth surely can't be the only I don't think we will discover them in my life time however

I prefer the previous answer that he originated in a lab.

Some of these are horrible - the ones about 9/11, Michelle Obama, Diana etc.

Others are just stupid - flat earth, bermuda triangle, fake moon landings.

The only conspiracy theory I think could be right is that Oswald didn't act alone.

The government (ie public ownership) owning houses and renting them back to us would solve an awful lot of problems and save both the private and public purse a lot of money over time. What exactly was his problem with council housing?

There are real conspiracies. Some of them do real, serious harm to millions of people - but 'conspiracy nuts' aren't interested in them because they don't sound like sci-fi. Following deliberately obscure paper & digital trails is boring, specialised, long-term work and I'm always grateful for those who do it.

And so many more! It is true that people with influence are stealing, bribing, blackmailing, enslaving, murdering and raping all over the place and mostly getting away with it. If your theory requires giant organisations to operate completely unobserved, though, or for all the world's governments to act together as one, you're definitely looking at the wrong thing because those are impossible in today's world.

This is exactly the argument I’ve had with my friend. She went weird a few years back and now believes the earth is flat. I’ve asked her why the government or whoever would bother lying as it makes zero difference to anyone’s life. Her response is “it’s just so they can control us.” But….. HOW?? How does the shape of the earth give any control?? I do appreciate the control line is just standard conspiracy theorist talk. But I really wish someone would tell me how the shape of the earth is in any way controlling?

Now if they were talking about aliens or proof of god/no god or similar I get why lying is a good idea. You don’t want to risk mass panic or destabilising entire religions. But the shape of the earth doesn’t make any difference to people’s perception of life.

I read an argument between two people where one said it was proven the seatbelt was broken and that's why she didn't wear it and the other said it didn't matter as she regularly didn't wear a seatbelt. I don't know if either of those things were true.

Thing is, is that any less likely than an all powerful God who created the world but hides in the shadows ready to punish us with hell if we don't worship him?
