RIP Roxie - fireworks death

Remembering the thread a little while ago about fireworks and all the people downplaying or arguing that animal owners should suck it up because the damage is not real or too bad. AIBU to think it is about time all fireworks be made silent ones and that you dont need lots of noise to enjoy them? And to the people who defended them because they like them - hope you are proud.

I'm going to catch flack for this but find it funny how people will petition to ban fireworks before petitioning for euthanasia all dangerous dog breeds that have killed countless children.

This 1000%

Such sentimental hypocrisy.

Get a grip and focus on bigger issues. So much suffering in the world that needs to be addressed.

MoonWoman69 · 14/11/2024 18:34

I think it's disgusting this has happened all because selfish people want their fun.
I don't agree that animals should be kept in captivity, unless it's for conservation purposes. Red pandas are a protected species. This should never have happened.
Heartbreaking.

I think XLs should be culled. And that noise making fireworks should be banned. Dont see a conflict there.

What is hypocritical of it? Or are people only allowed to care about one thing at a time where you are?

What about soldiers and people who have lived in war zones with PTSD? It’s not just the noise but flash of lights too. So silent ones aren’t going to work for them. I’m an animal lover and not a big fan of fireworks but a baby red panda dying is the tip of the iceberg with fireworks.

Not another thread from the anti fireworks brigade.

Give it a rest till next year

@AgilePinkWasp if your idea of fun involves scaring animals to death I would be pleased to part of the fun police.

Surely the better approach is to ban the practice of keeping exotic animals in captivity in urban areas close to where humans will be making noise?

Hoardasurass · 14/11/2024 18:41

@Autumnismyfavouritetimeofyear they only suspect that the fireworks contributed to their death. The mum was already unwell and orphaned pandas are difficult to keep alive especially when they are so young.

Don't ignore the negative comments. Get a grip instead and think about bigger issues effecting the world right now.

Don't use the death of one animal to beat people over the head with for daring to have a small amount of enjoyment in an otherwise fairly bleak world. Its just self righteous virtue signalling aggrandizing.

bebanjo · 14/11/2024 18:43

Wild animals are taken from there natural environment and kept in cages just so humans can go and look at them. Children shouting, screaming crying day in day out. I think there lives are very stressful.

Anotherparkingthread · 14/11/2024 18:44

I actually think selling these things should have been banned ages ago. Not just because they terrifying pets and wildlife but also the amount of people and children who get burned, yes they are usually doing something stupid with them, but we have banned everything else idiots use to maim themselves with.

I mean they're small explosive devices, in any other context everybody would be saying they were unnecessary dangerous nonsense that you shouldn't be able to buy for a tenna from the local shop.

I think there should be designated displays only to ensure responsibility and also bring back community events. One public display by the council in each area kept to one night rather going on for half a month. Them certain places such as wedding venues etc could apply for a permit from councils to be allowed specifically a license to have them, obviously more remote places being more likely to get permissions. And then they could be let off hy somebody safety trained, not just some drunk bloke from next doors house lol.

You can be upset and campaign for a ban on more than one thing you know?

I'm a veteran of the Iraqi war and I served in Afghanistan. Both times experienced mortar attacks and small arms fire.

I'm fine with fireworks as are my veteran friends. The BL organises firework nights to raise money to support vets.

So please don't presume to speak for us.

Ablondiebutagoody · 14/11/2024 18:49

Should have left Roxie (or her ancestors) in their natural environment rather than a cage in Edinburgh.

Although the Chinese do love a firework.....
