RIP Roxie - fireworks death

Remembering the thread a little while ago about fireworks and all the people downplaying or arguing that animal owners should suck it up because the damage is not real or too bad. AIBU to think it is about time all fireworks be made silent ones and that you dont need lots of noise to enjoy them? And to the people who defended them because they like them - hope you are proud.

The get a grip comment applies equally in reverse. Yes, life is hard for a lot of people right now, but fireworks are not the one tiny source of happiness in life. Life will go on without them.

Fireworks cause real problems for different groups and I’m not sure why that isn’t worth considering too if we’re talking about quality of life and how tough life is. It isn’t virtue signalling to want a ban. Or at least limits and restrictions; I think a lot of us are simply fed up with how loud they are, which is a relatively recent development. Reduce the noise level and I think fewer people would be so strongly anti-firework.

Its not recent. I'm 32 but remember before 5/6/7 years old and they were quite deafening then.

Yes statistically, its more likely that your baby will be mauled by a mutt than a mutt will be killed by a fire work.

Are you getting my point, yet?

I hate dogs. I've never given any opinion on dogs being killed by fireworks. I would never want any animal to suffer unnecessarily, but I would be happier if dogs didn't exist - ever since my son was attacked, I can't stand any dogs.

That does not have to mean that I don't think fireworks should be as quiet as possible! I fail to understand why you cannot accept that!

SpudleyLass · 14/11/2024 19:05

And you had the audacity to call me names.

Sounds like I touched a nerve there!

Mlanket · 14/11/2024 19:07

Are zoos a great environment for animals even without fireworks?

ColaCar · 14/11/2024 19:07

I blame the zoo for not doing more to protect a baby panda from the noise.

You fail to understand the point I've underscored at least twice now. And had the audacity to call me thick😂

I'm going to catch flack for this but find it funny how people will petition to ban fireworks before petitioning for euthanasia all dangerous dog breeds that have killed countless children.

What does that have to do with the OP? Nice false equivalence fallacy, well done. Start a new thread if you want to talk about dangerous dogs.

Happyinarcon · 14/11/2024 19:08

I don’t believe that any animal died from fireworks, but doesn’t Edinburgh have the cannon fire anyway? Is that next on the agenda 🤣

Imagine only caring about one issue and then going onto threads to berate people for caring about a different issue.

We all care about children being mauled and killed and it’s ridiculous to suggest otherwise. The rest of us are managing to care about dead children AND dead animals.

cheerfulaf · 14/11/2024 19:10

UpstartCrows · 14/11/2024 18:33

This 1000%

Such sentimental hypocrisy.

Get a grip and focus on bigger issues. So much suffering in the world that needs to be addressed.

I get what you’re saying but I think people talk about this because it’s such an easy to solve problem, unlike wars that affect children etc

I’m not a hater of fireworks, my dog couldn’t care less about them. But reading this article is really sad, and fireworks exist purely for humans enjoyment, it just doesn’t seem fair

Wont need to. There will be another dog killing a child in short order.

But there won't be a call for a ban like this one. Which was clearly my point all along.

No, don't lie. We don't all care about children being killed or else these dogs would have all been killed already.

I'm happy to restrict fireworks but dogs present a much bigger danger.

Depends on what you call recent. I’m over ten years older, and don’t recall loud fireworks as a child. Or rather, I do, but it was the odd one. Not the constant barrage I hear now every fireworks night.

Things and times change. Very loud fireworks going off for hours were not always a part of this centuries old festival and it can continue without them too.

Agreed, it has taken the better part of this week for the fireworks to die off.

I'm not bothered about that.

I'm bothered about priorities. People putting animals quite literally before children.

Mlanket · 14/11/2024 19:16

People putting animals quite literally before children.

This can’t come as a shock, look how many children around the world die of hunger

UmopapIsdn · 14/11/2024 19:18

Who is putting animals before children? Talking about an issue isn’t putting it before children.

I support a cull of dangerous dogs as well as this issue.

You're the only one only giving a fuck about one thing. I do hope to see you on all threads berating people for caring about anything other than dangerous dogs. 🙄
