Paedophile in area what to do

Really don’t know if should do something or not? Local paedophile released from prison early after 2 years. He is on sex offenders register and sexual harm order for life. He lives close to myself. However he now keeps appearing each week same day at the local council building where I work. Here there is a library and kids nursery. Last week the building was evacuated following a fire alarm he came out and was gawping at very young group of school kids virtually on top of them.

aibu to report him, is he meant to be going places where kids are my concern is he might be scoping out the library where the school children visit.
report to building manager. Library ? I feel really bad it’s playing on me and feel like can’t turn blind eye but what’s reasonable and what can you not do ????

I would report to library manager, nursery and probation. At worst they will do nothing.

Catza · 07/11/2024 21:02

I am sure he is not allowed to be within a certain distance of an educational establishment so report to the police as he is in breach of his release conditions.

mickey54 · 07/11/2024 21:03

@Moonlightstars I was worried about whether he has confidentiality I know sounds mad but worried I might get in trouble. You never know with stupid laws rules these days.

As @Catza says, he’ll be breaching his license conditions and should be reported. Tell the library and also pop down to the local police station. ASAP.

CocoDC · 07/11/2024 21:04

Report it to the nursery and the library. The nursery may need to change it’s fire evacuation location to somewhere else if possible. I’d also be contacting local police and let them know he’s staring at the kids. Always trust your gut.

mindutopia · 07/11/2024 21:04

Nothing. He’s allowed to be out in public. A library isn’t a child only space like a school, so his restrictions won’t prevent him going there. In fact, the convicted abusers I know on sexual harm prevention orders are not prevented from being around children (if you can believe it).

Honestly, I can 100% assure you that one of your colleagues you work with is also a child sexual abuser. It’s incredibly common. There is probably someone in your family. Statistically speaking, it would be unusual if there wasn’t. You just happen to know about this one and be grateful that you do. Obviously if he does anything actually criminal, then report it.

lasagnelle · 07/11/2024 21:04

Well yeah I'd phone the police non emergancy number and log your concerns with them.

kittybiscuits · 07/11/2024 21:05

He's almost certainly breaching the conditions of his licence. I would take photos if you can and talk to probation.

mickey54 · 07/11/2024 21:05

@Catza the police are also in this building that’s the audacity of this bloke. I did think surely this is not allowed

Hundreds of thousands. There is an epidemic of men consuming child sex abuse images.

You won’t get in trouble. You’re being a cautious citizen. Not sure how I would act in your situation, I would probs try and petition him out the area tbh lol. Ugh. Vile creature!!!

Maybe google it but put your local authority on it or county / city in the search.
for example adult probation report + Manchester (eg)

He’s probably better off in an area where he is known to local services - police, probation, safeguarding. “Moving him on” risks losing all the local intelligence that may pick up on patterns of offending behaviour. It’s how many offenders evade being caught.

Google the name of your town or city and probation service. Call them and tell them you have a concern about a paedophile and have evidence of him being around children.

I cannot believe you’re defending a child sex offender JFC

Odearr · 07/11/2024 21:08

If it's the same day every week, is it that he has an appointment or something at the library ? I know the job centre for example do courses and stuff at our library around here.
you can't really do anything and there will be a lot more sex offenders in your area that you don't know about

OP said there is a nursery. I'm fairly certain visiting one weekly is absolutely in violation of his release conditions.

You don’t need to decide that. You can share your concerns with the police and let them risk assess the information. Then you’ve done your bit.
