Paedophile in area what to do

Really don’t know if should do something or not? Local paedophile released from prison early after 2 years. He is on sex offenders register and sexual harm order for life. He lives close to myself. However he now keeps appearing each week same day at the local council building where I work. Here there is a library and kids nursery. Last week the building was evacuated following a fire alarm he came out and was gawping at very young group of school kids virtually on top of them.

aibu to report him, is he meant to be going places where kids are my concern is he might be scoping out the library where the school children visit.
report to building manager. Library ? I feel really bad it’s playing on me and feel like can’t turn blind eye but what’s reasonable and what can you not do ????

Report it to police/probation. If he's breaching his conditions they need to know. If he's not then they won't do anything and no harm done.
I'm not sure about telling the nursery/library people, there is a fine line between being aware and cautious and stirring up vigilantes.

Mrsttcno1 · 07/11/2024 21:29

Unfortunately I suspect there’s really nothing that can be done and he’s probably not doing anything legally wrong or breaching anything by doing this.

We had a similar situation a couple of years ago, he had been released and moved in with his mum in the street behind us, young children living either side and all up that street, a nursery literally 1 street over and a primary school over the road. Used to sit in his front garden blatantly watching the kids in the street not even trying to hide it, used to walk back and forth outside the nursery and the school staring. He was reported by so many people and every single time nothing came of it, as long as he wasn’t approaching, contacting or working with children then he wasn’t technically in breach of anything, there’s nothing that says he can’t “watch”.

It is awful to see though and so worrying to think he has to actually be caught doing something again before anything will be done although I appreciate that as others have said there is no alternative really as there are kids everywhere.

Report it to probation. But, this is the one you know about. You will pass many every day that you don’t know about

You won’t get in trouble. You’re being a cautious citizen. Not sure how I would act in your situation, I would probs try and petition him out the area tbh lol. Ugh. Vile creature!!!

Petition him out of the area? Don't be ridiculous.

mickey54 · 07/11/2024 21:34

@Mrsttcno1 ah thanks so yes this sounds very similar situation and that’s my worry he prob can go about as he pleases. Just doesn’t sit right. He prob has to actually do something to get recalled to prison

I cannot believe you’re defending a child sex offender JFC

How is she defending him?

Belle82 · 07/11/2024 21:35

Warn everyone you know and definitely tell the nursery and the library.
the first person I would be speaking to would be the police. That man clearly needs to be locked away somewhere he can’t do harm to children.

personally I would rather they were put down.

valueyourself · 07/11/2024 21:36

This is what you kneed to know .. and need to contact your local constabulary xx

@Belle82 will do at least if they are aware can keep an eye on him when he keeps appearing.

Oh well. We've already got people talking about the death penalty and having them put down. When we get the chop off their goolies with rusty knives advocates we'll have a full bingo card.

I don't understand why the police are in this hub yet not accessible to the public. What are they doing there!

Catza · 07/11/2024 21:08

OP said there is a nursery. I'm fairly certain visiting one weekly is absolutely in violation of his release conditions.

she also stated there is a police station in the same building; my local council building has multiple departments - it doesn't sound as if he is actually visiting the nursery.

mickey54 · 07/11/2024 21:43

@valueyourself interesting reading. May he is reporting to the police every week but sounds pathetic when in building where kids are but who knows.

@ThinWomansBrain yes correct it’s just me of the departments in it and I don’t know what he is doing I spotted his dog today so went to look for when he appeared I think he had been in the library.

You should definitely report if you're concerned. If he's not breaking any rules then nothing will come of it. Worst case, it has been logged, best case he goes back to prison.

Exactly. I don't suppose his licence conditions stop him from visiting multi purpose buildings. Of course if the OP has seen actual concerning behaviour directed at children that is another issue.

@ilovesooty yep true facts the departement I work in needed the police and they wouldn’t speak to us had to call in was a joke.

OP … how are you aware of all this, but the Police.. who are in the same building, are not?

BourbonsAreOverated · 07/11/2024 21:50

Just be careful you don’t start to look like you’re harassing him or stalking him or you’ll be the ones getting in trouble
