To think this is going too far now? (Trump)

That a supposed Christian democrat friend hopes there's another assassination attempt on him soon? I know he can be hated but to wish death on someone is just well... going too far?

Agree completely.
Like or loathe him the US voted their president -suggesting any human being gets shot is just obscene - and actually inciting violence on the Internet is a crime that now carries a jail sentence so let's see if the police chase the left wing too.

toomuchfaff · 07/11/2024 15:09

Oh my god, that'd make him a Martyr.. can you imagine the outpouring and memory loss associated with a successful assassination, the news coverage alone would take over the networks for months...

ByMerryKoala · 07/11/2024 15:10

It would definitely expedite Vance's timeline. People are completely unhinged at the moment. It'll settle down.

Outandinbout · 07/11/2024 15:12

Yep, he was democratically elected in a fair election by the majority of the population.

Your friend is anti-democracy in the worst possible way.

No doubt she considers herself a kind and good person on the side of justice, but she is badly wrong about herself. She's closer to the personality type Putin has.

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/11/2024 15:12

tbf, he could lessen the chances of that himself by restricting gun ownership.

I doubt it just wait until he follows through with his bans on puberty blockers, cross sex hormones and surgery for minors along with the ban on teaching gender ideology, allowing males into women's toilets, sports and awards. The TRAs will go nuts

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 07/11/2024 15:14

Much as i loathe the man, he didn't elect himself. The problem isn't one man. He is a symptom of the problem.

LastNight1Dreamt1WentToManderleyAgain · 07/11/2024 15:15

He who lives by the sword dies by the sword.

But if your friend is RC or AngloCatholic, they'd do well to seek the sacrament of reconciliation...

T4phage · 07/11/2024 15:17

I expect the Ukrainians do. Can't blame them to be honest. Whilst it's certainly a bad thing to wish death upon someone, it's a natural enough reaction when facing the possibility of war, misery or great suffering. Nobody knows what will happen in Europe now that Putin will be able to run amok thanks to his little orange piggy across the water. Not to mention the ongoing carnage in the middle east.

AlllSeeingEye · 07/11/2024 15:20

I saw lots of comments here on Mumsnet saying the same thing when it happened. It was sickening.

Lickthips · 07/11/2024 15:24

Trump is very pro gun and lots of innocent Americans die as a result of the US's lax attitude to gun ownership. If Trump falls foul of this I couldn't give one single, solitary fuck.

You're not wrong

Yes, because nothing engenders economic and political security more than an assassinated president.

we moved past it back in when Kennedy was assassinated.

Yep and Trump himself is almost irrelevant now - Vance and the 2025 agenda is on track and removing Trump just gets us Vance.

It’s a truly terrifying document and will have far reaching implications beyond the USA.

Snorlaxo · 07/11/2024 15:46

Wishing for someone’s death is outrageous.

If Trump was successfully assassinated then I think that the civil unrest would be more widespread than January 6th and the hysteria would be more widespread than when Princess Diana died. Trump would be elevated to saint status by some and I’d be seriously concerned about the safety of other innocents.

Is Vance much better than Trump? An assassinated Trump would mean Vance for 8 years and he could have a VP who is as bad as or worse than Trump.

Same.

username7891 · 07/11/2024 15:49

Haven't the assassination attempts all been by Republicans?

Vance is worse than Trump in many ways because he’s not an old deranged man who prefers golfing to working.

He’s not as interesting or charismatic in a media sense though so would generate fewer headlines and less cult loyalty.

PortiasBiscuit · 07/11/2024 15:54

Not sure the FBI/ CIA won’t stick a bullet in him if it suits their purposes.. ( they’ve done it before)

DemonicCaveMaggot · 07/11/2024 16:02

I don't like Trump but I don't want him dead, I just wish he had retired to Mar A Lago in 2021.

The majority of US citizens voted for him, and if they want contaminated water, children exposed to lead and carcinogens, a Bible based education system with 12th grade students graduating high school with what is currently 8th grade education, the stagnation of global trade, the loss of many of their global customers to other countries (which is what happened when he tried tariffs last time), and farmers, hotels, and the restaurant industry complaining because they can't find anyone to work 60 hours a week for less than minimum wage because all the illegal migrants have been deported then that is what they voted for. I personally don't think it is all that great, not particularly wanting to live on a cancer cluster, but there are plenty of people in Alabama and similar who are quite happy to do that as it is more 'manly' or something.

GoldenPheasant · 07/11/2024 16:05

The chances are he won't last four years anyway, dementia is obviously setting in. Not that we're likely to be any better off without him once he has put the likes of Vance, Kennedy and Musk into positions of power.

Cowboycorgi · 07/11/2024 16:06

Dear me, stop feeding into the drama with these endless bullshit posts ( not you personally op, mumsnet as a whole). I live in the US and I've seen more hand wringing, we're terrified posts on this site than any of my local sites. We had a democratic election, Trump won. Everything is OK and will be OK. The sky is not falling in. The world isn't ending. Go about your lives and stop perpetuating this nonsense.

WickedlyCharmed · 07/11/2024 16:07

Wishing death on someone, how very typically hypocritically Christian.
