That a supposed Christian democrat friend hopes there's another assassination attempt on him soon? I know he can be hated but to wish death on someone is just well... going too far?

@DemonicCaveMaggot I agree - and while some issues may lend themselves to being dealt with on a state by state level, there are others that are too important to the nation and the global community to disband effective federal agencies - especially if the reason behind the disbanding is to benefit some private commercial interest.

I'm particularly concerned about FEMA, EPA and NOAA.

And the Department of Education - if you leave that purely to the State level you could have some states where generations of children are growing up without the safeguards they need.

Prettyredflowers · 07/11/2024 18:27

I'm not a Trump fan but he is the democratically elected President of the US. We have been fed a lot of v biased news reporting on both sides. We need to calm down, let the Americans run their own country, and stop getting into a froth about soundbites.

@MonkeyToHeaven -.OK, ignoring the thinly veiled 'Americans are stupid 'part of your post. My lived experience is that Americans are either complacent or disinterested quite the opposite. Your average American is a hard working person who wants to make sure they can feed their kids, pay their bills and.be rewarded for hard work. Trumpnas won, enough with the division. What we need to do now is get behind him & support so he can have the best presidency. That benefits us all. We live in a country with some of best rights and freedoms in the world. One man cannot change the constitution.

Half my family are American, I know what it's like. Best freedoms in the world? You don't even have the statutory right to paid holidays.

A third of people who could vote either didn't register or didn't vote, that hardly screams involvement. Out of the entire population only 37% of eligible voters voted In all of the previous three national elections.

Trump controls the house, the senate and the judiciary, has been gifted exemption from prosecution for crimes while in office (including treason) and certainly doesn't need people to get behind him.

ToWhitToWhoo · 07/11/2024 18:35

I think he is evil, but - just as the death penalty for even the worst murderers makes us all complicit in revenge-murder- wishing for his assassination reduces us to his level.

More pragmatically, do those who wish for his death realize who would replace him???

CreationNat1on · 07/11/2024 18:37

Recalls Melania's "I don't care" coat, that she wore to visit the refugee camps near the border.

ANGIEPANGY77 · 07/11/2024 18:41

I am an American and
despise Trump with the heat of a thousand fires. With that said, never would I wish him dead.

Msmoonpie · 07/11/2024 18:44

It’s utterly unacceptable.

I personally think he’s an awful man but I not only respect democracy, I also think killing other people is wrong !

Can you imagine the outcry if a right wing individual said the same about Harris ?

Oh how very Christian!
Wishing one person dead- and another one a murderer!
Like it or not, the country voted and he won.
Definitely gone too far!

TwigletsAndRadishes · 07/11/2024 18:52

Well it would be one way to start the next American Civil War, I suppose. Is that what this person really wants?

Explain the what you mean by best rights and freedoms in the world.
Abortion rights decimated across swathes of the country.
No statutory right to an even barely acceptable level of annual leave.
Maternity leave / pay is abysmal.
Freedom to bear arms = school shootings on an unprecedented scale.
The "right" to go bankrupt because of healthcare needs.
Books banned in school for the most spurious of reasons.
Please, explain what are the best in the world. I'd love to know.

Livelovebehappy · 07/11/2024 19:04

I’m surprised that you’re surprised. Did you read some of the posts on MN following the last assassination attempt? There were some really awful posts about people wishing it had been successful, ending with laughing emojis - honestly, we really don’t know who we live amongst. There’s some very sad, scary and evil people out there.

Abhannmor · 07/11/2024 19:16

Just wrong. Anyway what's the point...he is a symptom of a broken society. A few years of chaos then the Dems will return promising change. Which won't happen. Then another rabble rouser appears. Rinse and repeat.

Ask his mother. People to be fair rarely understand those with an Islands of Scotland background. A lot of their 'banter' is tongue in cheek.

Those that understand the humour don't take it seriously. They are intelligent enough to know it's toung in cheek & they would never carry out half of what they shout about. They are merely bringing the issue to the surface

Rowlinginthedeepanddeeper · 07/11/2024 20:25

Loving the idea that it's all banter and that it will all be OK because we'll he was elected by the freestyle country in the world tripe.
The man is a monster and basically the Ukraine is fucked and therfore possible Poland. Women are fucked on America possibly for generations as he can now impose more fascist into the supreme court. Tariffs will fuck up the best/biggest economy in the west and therfore impact most western countries. He will change the longstanding protections on civil service workers and fill what positions with unqualified sycophantic ' bye bye and real regulatory controls on corporate America. Mass deportations if they happen will be both extraordinary expensive, massively damaging to the economy and will rip community's apart and otherwise anyone of colour or Latinos- if you are brown you will soon assumed to be illegal not just by the white majority but also by law enforcement- racism with be esconsed in society as the norm. God i could go on and on and on.

America has sleep walked into this and will fuck the rest of us longer term with thier stupidity.

Unfortunately his death will change nothing in this protection and possibly accelerate it as Vance is a pawn of a few fascist tech pros.

Anyone who thinks it will all be OK- check back here in 4 years and apologies

Absolutely - we know it’s not banter, we know he’s not going to suddenly become presidential and work for the people - we know this because even if we could give him and his team the benefit of the doubt in 2016 - we know now what they did in power.

We know that his promises to do something are all either bluster, lies and propaganda like building a wall that Mexico will pay for.

Or lies hiding actual destructive actions like trying to destroy the different government agencies and departments from within.

Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead · 07/11/2024 21:54

I wouldn't wish for it but also wouldn't be surprised if it happened

I wrote on some forum that his ma was from Skye. Immediately dozens of Skye folk came to tell me ' She was from Lewis - don't blame us ffs!" 😂

Your so-called Christian friend is an enemy of democracy. Sounds a bit unhinged to be honest.

TheUsualChaos · 07/11/2024 22:55

Let him see out the 4 years and let it be a completely mediocre presidency in which none of his empty promises come to fruition. Let people see that he isn't the answer, never was and never could be. Let them see he doesn't give a flying fig about the average American. Let the democrats get themselves together while he bumbles along for four years talking nonsense.

Which parts of the news reports about Trump do you think are biased and untrue? The problem is only too much is amply evidenced because he doesn't make any attempt to hide his misogyny, hatred and bigotry.

nam3c4ang3 · 07/11/2024 22:59

It’s so crazy, an American friend of mine said she was scared that he wouldn’t allow women to drive or vote ever again… it’s all so hysterical.

timetodecide2345 · 07/11/2024 23:17

I don't really care what happens to him. He's odious. I hate that he even enters my brain and I have to waste thought on him.

He is a symptom though of an ailing nation just like Brexit was for us. Civilisations rise and fall and if you look back at other powerful nations historically then they all that their Trump and Brexit moments on their way down.

tbf, he could lessen the chances of that himself by restricting gun ownership.
Really? How exactly because Biden and Obama did not do it. Democrats are in power for four years now? Obama was for eight? Why is up to Trump?

Finest whataboutery.
Because he’s the President now, would have thought that was bleeding obvious.

Share your view of this disgusting man. I do care though because Vance will be worse in every way.

I hope he makes it to the end of his term, when hopefully the opposition will have got its act together and put up a viable candidate.
