To think this is going too far now? (Trump)

That a supposed Christian democrat friend hopes there's another assassination attempt on him soon? I know he can be hated but to wish death on someone is just well... going too far?

@MonkeyToHeaven -.OK, ignoring the thinly veiled 'Americans are stupid 'part of your post. My lived experience is that Americans are either complacent or disinterested quite the opposite. Your average American is a hard working person who wants to make sure they can feed their kids, pay their bills and.be rewarded for hard work. Trumpnas won, enough with the division. What we need to do now is get behind him & support so he can have the best presidency. That benefits us all. We live in a country with some of best rights and freedoms in the world. One man cannot change the constitution.

Best rights and freedoms in the world?? You're having a laugh, you should see America from the outside looking in.

tbf, he could lessen the chances of that himself by restricting gun ownership.
Really? How exactly because Biden and Obama did not do it. Democrats are in power for four years now? Obama was for eight? Why is up to Trump?

Finest whataboutery.
Because he’s the President now, would have thought that was bleeding obvious.

He's president elect ie not president until he is inorgrated on the 20th of January next year until that point Biden is still president

I dislike Trump but I wouldn't wish assassination on anyone.

Same here.

HarrisObviously · 08/11/2024 14:42

The American people democratically elected him so they can suffer the consequences of his actions. His voters know what they voted for so I have limited sympathy. They like his machismo posturing and didn't want to critique what he says.
I just hope his impact on the rest of the world is limited as much as possible.
He's a vile human being but I don't wish for him to be assassinated. If he dies due to natural causes I certainly wouldn't shed a tear though.

PalisadesPatty · 10/11/2024 16:54

I wouldn’t wish it on him but I certainly wouldn’t be sorry if it happened.

Dear me, stop feeding into the drama with these endless bullshit posts ( not you personally op, mumsnet as a whole). I live in the US and I've seen more hand wringing, we're terrified posts on this site than any of my local sites. We had a democratic election, Trump won. Everything is OK and will be OK. The sky is not falling in. The world isn't ending. Go about your lives and stop perpetuating this nonsense.

this, in a nutshell.

Leaving aside the ethics, I'm genuinely fascinated as to what your friend thinks it would achieve? Once he's president, he would just be succeeded by Vance, who has the exact same agenda but more intelligence, competence and self-discipline (and he's younger and eligible for a second term). Trump would be a martyr, the US would be more angry and polarised than ever and the 50%+ of voters who opted for him would still be there and voting.

Explain the what you mean by best rights and freedoms in the world.
Abortion rights decimated across swathes of the country.
No statutory right to an even barely acceptable level of annual leave.
Maternity leave / pay is abysmal.
Freedom to bear arms = school shootings on an unprecedented scale.
The "right" to go bankrupt because of healthcare needs.
Books banned in school for the most spurious of reasons.
Please, explain what are the best in the world. I'd love to know.

Add to this child marriage and no minimum age for gun ownership. I don’t think Americans are stupid, but they are deluded in thinking they have some of the best freedoms, what they have is the best marketing.

When Trump stood in 2016, it's quite possible he didn't want to win. It was a publicity stunt. He could afford to say crazy things and not think through how he'd implement them. When he got into power he apparently spent a lot of time eating pizza and watching news reports about himself. He was mainly worried about things like crowd sizes. He didn't read any briefs he was given. He had sensible, experienced people around to run the show.

Now, he does have an agenda, and he's surrounded by people who back it. He's much more likely to put his plans into effect. This presidency could be quite different from his last.
