The M and S Sparks card?

girlfriend44 · 01/11/2024 17:15

What is the point of the card, other than them knowing what you buy and when?
I didn't use it today as I don't seem to get anything back?
It's not like you get money off and collect points is it?
Anyone enlighten me as to whether or not it's worth carrying on?
Does anyone benefit from theirs?😥

@StillCreatingAName to be fair, my neighbour won the free shop with about £200 of champagne, it was brilliant!

Maybe it's a ploy so that people think it could be them when actually it is one large shop a year. The rest are tuppence ha'penny.

Do you buy a lot in there? I tend to find the more you buy, the more they send you. I base this on being a huge marks and Spencer shopper and I get lots of discounts and offers....and a couple of years ago, I practically stopped buying from there altogether (between jobs, no money, trying to be strong ) and got not a single email/reward/discount from there.

I think the offers are very tailored to what you buy....I buy my fruit and veg there weekly so get a lot of food offers....I'm very partial to the homeware and women's sections so receive offers for there too. I don't buy any mens or kids so never receive anything from those. I have noticed if I buy say jeans, I'll get a "reward" for jeans as my next one....if I buy any homeware, bedding is a bit of my downfall, I do get money almost straight away off more bedding. I'm learning not to try say 3 pairs of jeans on and buy them all as I know if I buy one, I'll get a sparks reward off more jeans. I don't know for sure if it works like this, but it seems to be this way for me! If I have a break from spending there, I almost always get a 10 or 20 per cent off everything reward.

I do regularly get free biscuits/fruit/percy pigs/bread and I'm not going to sniff at that. Anything free is a winner!

I think their advent calendar thing is a bit rubbish. They seem to stop all rewards and I never get anything good on the advent. Nothing going out of my way to pick up. I remember a couple of years ago, a lot of my colleagues even got free vodka, alcohol etc and I got nothing like that!

Edited to say I've just looked at mine
15% off shellfish
20% off throws
10% off fruit and veg
10 % off cleaning and laundry
Free percy pigs
10% off cut flowers and plants
£1 off shopping if £6 spent on sweets.

Edited

I agree about big spendings generate more rewards. Not sure about tailored offers … but every little helps and you are right - anything free is a winner.

Does anyone remember those vouchers a few years ago, £10 or £15 off a shop? I used to get them weekly. They were fantastic!

Motherrr · 01/11/2024 20:30

I always thought this too.. stopped using it!

HumphreysCorner · 01/11/2024 20:31

I haven't gained anything from mine 😂

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 01/11/2024 20:34

It's absolute shite, stopped using mine ages ago-they keep sending me emails telling me they've noticed and sending numerous shit offers to 'tempt me back' 🙄
Don't even get me started on the absolute wank that was the advent calendar last Christmas where it appears some people got fabulous freebies and the rest of us got a big bag of fuck all.

thepariscrimefiles · 01/11/2024 20:34

I agree with you OP. I used to get lots of Sparks offers plus free treats but I've had nothing for ages so I no longer bother to scan my card when shopping.

I notice this year they have got an irresistible offer for their wank advent calendar - spend £35 or more and get it….for £50!

I see you got the same advent offers as me.

Just got a freebie offer for my birthday: a punnet of grapes or some chocolate biscuits. Whoop. I'm sure I got chocolate truffles or a bottle of wine in years past.

I've got exactly the same for my birthday too! I think previous years I've had a £5 voucher.
I did get a few bits in the 12 days of Christmas last year - a diffuser; a bottle of light up gin liquor and possibly money off a tin of Chritmas truffles.

Aydel · 01/11/2024 21:02

I’ve never had a freebie. At the moment they’re offering me 10% off various foods. No incentive there. If I shop in M & S it’s usually a big clothes or Christmas shop. Ditto John Lewis. Who stopped offering me free cake years ago. Waitrose card also gives you nothing.

Jaehee · 01/11/2024 21:06

I’ve got an M&S Rewards credit card but that’s shite too. When I first started using it they sent me £5 off vouchers and earn £3 worth of points when you spend x amount, but they had short expiry dates so I couldn’t use them all. I never got anything again and have stopped using it now.

I haven’t had any Sparks offers in months.

Waitrose used to do good ones, £10 off £60 shops, but they stopped those and now you just get 50p off random things.

TheStarsLookVeryDifferentToday · 01/11/2024 18:26

Same, I bought socks last month and a couple of days later got a Sparks offer of money off socks.

If you have the time perhaps order what you want and then wait a week before using it.
See if you get an offer through and re-order and take the first lot back!
If it's a decent discount it may be worth doing.

StripeyDeckchair · 01/11/2024 21:18

I agree
I've never had anything from it & can't see the point of having one.
Don't bother with it now.

Solmum1964 · 01/11/2024 21:37

MichaelandKirk · 01/11/2024 20:25

You have to load the offers on. Pain in the bum and who has time!

It is irritating but you also have to load the offers onto your Nectar card to get the bonus points when you scan as you shop and also with vouchers on the Tesco Clubcard app.

nirishism · 01/11/2024 21:40

I got a shop for free once, was obvs great but I was secretly raging as I do a big shop there once a fortnight but this was just a little pop in for about eight things random shop. Still, though. 😅

AngryBookworm · 01/11/2024 21:44

Rubbish card and piddling weird offers like 10% off ironing boards. I do use it every time I shop there in case the lottery thing where you win a free shop ever happens, and I got a free pot of instant porridge one time on the advent calendar. But it's essentially a waste of time.

Joiedepotato · 01/11/2024 21:45

I've had no new offers on mine for months now, I assume there is something wrong with it.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/11/2024 21:48

I’ve never seen the point of it.

Can’t see the point of any card that doesn’t give you points to spend.

So that’s both the M&S and the John Lewis cards I just CBA with.

BirthdayRainbow · 01/11/2024 21:54

I've just emailed to say I've not had any offers for ages. They replied that there will be some soon and they value their customers..

Nobodywantsthis · 01/11/2024 21:57

I got a free box of biscuits on my birthday recently!

Hedonism · 01/11/2024 22:07

A) why do you have the load the offers onto your card? Why can't they just apply them?
B) why didn't I get anything for my birthday? 😭

That's not a bad idea, thanks, because all my jeans need replaced. I used to do something similar in the 80s during Markies' sales. They'd reduce prices gradually over a few weeks so we bought what we wanted at the start of the sale but wouldn't wear any of it until we saw how low the prices went.

I've done similar with Sainsbury's in the past. Ordered something for click and collect and realised when I've gone to collect it that they have the Tu 25% off event on.
Then gone home and re-ordered and taken the original items back when I've gone to collect the next lot (I pass the store 3 days a week so don't have to go far out of my way).
