Neighbour reported my cousin’s car as abandoned

Hi y’all . So a cousin of mine went to Spain last week and she left her car legally parked outside my house . This morning I had someone come in from our local borough to say that the car was abandoned. I was so shocked and lost for words . The lady who came in was just doing her job and I mentioned it was my cousin’s car and that she is on holiday . So I know for sure it was my neighbour who reported as she has never taken a liking to us . I am black by the way and she cannot fathom that I am a homeowner in the neighbourhood she is in and she already told other neighbours that she suspected that my husband must be 'doing something illegal to afford that house and car '. Will I be unreasonable to call the borough and ask who made the call or I should let it go ?

Just let it go

Pandasnacks · 15/10/2024 19:47

I doubt they'd be able to tell you, and you said you already no for sure anyway. What would you even do with the information?

Just let it go

If she believes this is racially motivated she should actually notify the council and the police so that it keeps a paper trail.

ATenShun · 15/10/2024 19:48

If it was taxed, tested and insured I'm very surprised they even bothered coming out.

heartsinvisiblefury · 15/10/2024 19:48

Let it go. The car wasn't parked illegally. Your neighbour has reported a non issue and just made him or herself look petty and stupid.

This. Most councils won’t even let you report a car as abandoned if it’s still taxed and MOTd.

MidnightPatrol · 15/10/2024 19:50

How does your neighbour know it’s your cousins car?

I had a car abandoned and set fire to on my road and I struggled to get anyone to care, I’m amazed they came out within the timeframe of a holiday.

Smithhy · 15/10/2024 19:50

Why would the borough tell you? Not your car, not your complaint.

JuvenileBigfoot · 15/10/2024 19:50

She says your husband must be dodgy to afford your home!?!? How gross. So sorry you have to listen to such drivel.

heartsinvisiblefury · 15/10/2024 19:51

and I agree with a PP, if you have experienced racial discrimination from the neighbour then you should report this to the police

I wanted just to know for my vindication

Are you American? Or is Y'all becoming a thing here now 🤣

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 15/10/2024 19:51

As if they would bother doing anything about a legally taxed, legally parked car. They don't even bother about untaxed cars.

I agree, there's a car near me that has clearly been abandoned, flat tyres, weeds growing round it and the council aren't interested as it is taxed and so legally can stay on the road.

pikkumyy77 · 15/10/2024 19:53

You believe you know what you know. It won’t affect anything so don’t bother.

No she does not know it is my cousin’s car as we rarely speak . Tax and MOT are all up to date

You are very lucky to have a council that is well staffed and funded and able to act so quickly on complaints!

Pandasnacks · 15/10/2024 19:56

@M2BANTRIM if she doesn't no it's your cousins car then how do you know for certain this is a racially motivated jab at you?

If there is no indication the car is connected to you then why do you think the neighbour complained because she doesn't like you?

VeryCheesyChips · 15/10/2024 19:58

I’d be more annoyed that the council had allocated funding to such a pointless visit to a legally parked car.

CrystalSea · 15/10/2024 19:59

A car that is taxed and has a valid MOT and parked on a public highway will not attract a visit from the local council.

On what grounds?

We have had issues with her in the past but she is subtle with it and indirect . She also has said stuff about my family and I to other neighbours since we moved into our house . I’m not sure about your ethnicity but anyone who is ethnic in a predominantly white neighbourhood knows what I mean . The passive aggressiveness and the snide remarks are more than enough for me to know it it racially motivated

Smithhy · 15/10/2024 20:01

How do you mean someone came in?

Ponderingwindow · 15/10/2024 20:02

How long are cars allowed to park on your street?

on ours they can’t be parked overnight, so a car left while someone went away for a week would definitely draw attention.

You may be seeing racism where there isn't any. Most neighbours gossip. When your not there they talk about you, when she isn't there it's her turn to be talked about and so on. Don't sweat it.
