Neighbour reported my cousin’s car as abandoned

Hi y’all . So a cousin of mine went to Spain last week and she left her car legally parked outside my house . This morning I had someone come in from our local borough to say that the car was abandoned. I was so shocked and lost for words . The lady who came in was just doing her job and I mentioned it was my cousin’s car and that she is on holiday . So I know for sure it was my neighbour who reported as she has never taken a liking to us . I am black by the way and she cannot fathom that I am a homeowner in the neighbourhood she is in and she already told other neighbours that she suspected that my husband must be 'doing something illegal to afford that house and car '. Will I be unreasonable to call the borough and ask who made the call or I should let it go ?

A car that is taxed and has a valid MOT and parked on a public highway will not attract a visit from the local council.

On what grounds?

That is exactly why I want to make the call on who called it in as abandoned . Hindsight is always 20/20 in that moment all I could think of was explaining that it was my cousin’s car and she was away on holiday and the lady was so nice and she said no worries we had received a call that there was an abandoned vehicle . The interaction lasted less than 10 minutes

@M2BANTRIM my ethnicity is nothing to do with it. You've said she doesn't no it's your cousins car, so you've decide it's a racially motivated thing based on nothing, if she knew it was your cousins car I'd agree. But actually, you don't no who reported the car, and you don't no why it was reported if it even was. So let it go.

How long are cars allowed to park on your street?

on ours they can’t be parked overnight, so a car left while someone went away for a week would definitely draw attention.

It wasn’t parked on the street . It was on my allocated parking space on my property

Do you mean 'no' or 'know ' ?? I’m confused

That makes it even less likely that someone from the council came to view it in less than 24 hours to be honest. What was this woman's job role? Did you see her ID?

I agree, I have my doubts this is real. In a private space belonging that household, no way would anyone look into it unless the owner of the space complained.

My cousin left it last week on Thursday and she will be back this week Friday . The car was legally parked on my property like I said . Tax and MOT are up to date on this car . Which is why I want to call tomorrow and ask

That doesn't answer my questions at all, you already said that stuff.

ArcaneWireless · 15/10/2024 20:14

@ATenShun

I’m with y’all….

M2BANTRIM · 15/10/2024 20:14

The person who came in had a uniform with the logo of the borough and same on the van she came in with . So I know for sure she came in from the borough . The car has been there on my property since last week Thursday . I never said anything about 24 hours and I do not know where the mention of 24 hours is coming from

@M2BANTRIM the ones that you just answered...

nottaotter · 15/10/2024 20:18

@M2BANTRIM she may well have seen your cousin leave the car, the neighbour also sounds like the kind of person who would notice a car and call the council anyway. Either way she sounds horrible and I would want to know as well who reported car.

Arran2024 · 15/10/2024 20:19

They won't tell you who reported it.

You believe you know what you know. It won’t affect anything so don’t bother.

So the borough also called you?

NewName24 · 15/10/2024 20:20

I'm another who would like to live in a Local Authority that has the money to employ so many staff it can send someone out, after just a few days, to a report of a taxed, insured, MOT'd car parked on someone's own property .... Hmm

M2BANTRIM · 15/10/2024 20:22

Smithhy · 15/10/2024 20:19

No , someone from the borough cane in person to say the borough had received a call about the said vehicle

Too many holes in this story...

OP obviously enjoys a little bit of stirring.

MumOfOneAllAlone · 15/10/2024 20:23

I wouldn't report it op, just leave it and laugh about it with your family

She just sounds batty with nothing better to do!

Is the car on your front drive? Your post is a little confusing as you say it's an allocated parking space on your property?

Anyway, we've all had neighbours like this, best not to rock the boat. Xx

When someone knows they are being subjected to racist behaviour, it is not on to try to deny it.

You know far less about the situation than the OP.

Pandasnacks · 15/10/2024 20:24

@bergamotorange if you read the thread, she doesn't know it.
