Things someone has done that suddenly made you weirdly attracted to them

I got to work this morning and I have a bit of equipment that I use that I always struggle setting up.

I turned up a bit early and put it on the table ready to set up. A guy I work with who honestly I have never really even liked as a person and am DEFINITELY not remotely
physically attracted to, picked it up off the table while we were all chatting before our shift, and wordlessly constructed it for me.

For a minute I thought he thought it was his and was very confused, but he handed it to me once done.

I cannot stress how much I am not attracted to this man but it was weirdly hot.

Please share your versions of this so I know I’m not a complete weirdo!

When Rory Stewart talked about how he felt when people he thought were his friends and who had promised their support didn't support him as Tory leader. And I am a life long Labour supporter....

Also Rory Stewart: talking calmly about delivering his second child (who arrived unexpectedly at home) and saying how amazing both his wife and the 999 operator were.

I'm not a Tory voter either, but that is serious competence

If only men knew how attractive it is if they are capable - particularly if they do something without being asked to do it.

This may explain why I'm attracted to my builder despite not actually fancying him!

NooNakedJacuzziness · 11/10/2024 16:36

Jason Donovan posed for a selfie with me and was embarrassed about his muffin top, it was very endearing.

This may have been a dream. But any dream will do. I'll see myself out.

"Competence porn", love it! 😄

My DH can't drive so I always have to do it. So when I am driven in a car by a man, I get all floppy in the knees, that sheer 'being taken care of' thing... 😍

Also, doing DIY without making a big flappy fuss about it and needing me to stand by with tools and bandages... DH is a pointy headed scientist and city boy, and has his qualities, but I sometimes hanker for my first real boyfriend, a farmer, who was so casually capable and physically strong, and tended to the animals with calm and assurance, and smelt of good, work sweat, oh my... sigh... 😅

I know exactly what you mean! I love my DH to pieces, but a practical man he is not. I regularly do the DIY myself (or get my Dad to do it!) when he's out of the house because I just can't deal with the flapping!

When I was dating a guy before I met DH, I got chatting to this big, sexy Australian man at a networking event. Despite working in IT, you could just tell he was an outdoorsy sort that you'd have found on an Outback ranch, wrangling kangaroos (I know this isn't a thing!) and likely good at practical things like DIY.

He asked me out on a date, but out of stupidity loyalty to the guy I was dating at the time (which was never going anywhere), I declined.

I often wonder what might have happened if I'd said yes!

In terms of unexpected attractions, I have a work colleague that I'd never usually be attracted to, but when he either expresses a genuine interest in something I've told him about, or remembers a really tiny detail about something, or just deals with some office DIY without asking, I do get a little swoon!

I am a better driver than DH too, which he even comments on himself.

I do find myself attracted to him when he beats me at sports/games though. He is much better at them than me and it's pretty sexy lol! But, then on the off-chance I do win something I'm even more delighted, so it's (literally!) a win-win for me!

GreatSquareNova · 11/10/2024 16:43

First time I felt wildly attracted to my now DH was when he explained to me how to bootstrap an interest curve.

Does it get any stranger than that? 😂

Crushed23 · 11/10/2024 16:45

A young man continued eating his gyros while I was attempting to flirt with him / ask him out, and I found it cute.

I think it was the fact he wasn't impressed by me and I had to actually work hard for his attention that made me want him more. He felt like a 'challenge'.

AAudreyHorne · 11/10/2024 16:47

Watching my now boyfriend drive his HGV, seeing him steer his huge lorry into a perfect u-turn to come back and park next to me .... delicious strong arms in full control of this massive lorry.
Don't think I've ever fancied anyone more then him in that moment.

silentassassin · 11/10/2024 16:47

Competence porn 😂😂 so damn right its hot.

One time I had matched with someone on online dating but wasnt sure if I really fancied him or not. We had arranged to meet in a public place in between where we both live but it was quite far and I hadn't been driving long. I dont know how I did it, but I got totally and hopelessly lost on the way and ended up at some random petrol station on the motorway, in tears.

I rang him and told him, expecting him to say "never mind, we can do it another time- you go home" as I was a panicked mess at that point (also I wasnt totally sure which way was home) but he was so calm and comforting. He asked me where I was and I bawled that I didnt know. So, he asked me what signs I could see and what I could see around me. I told him and he said decisively, "stay where you are, I am coming to get you".

He was there in about 20 minutes and I followed his car off the motorway and we continued on to our original meeting place. He went from someone I wasnt sure I fancied to me wanting to rip his clothes off in the space of 10 words.

My first date with now DH. We were walking along past some tennis courts on the other side of the road where 2 guys were playing tennis. A ball flew over the fence and landed near us. He picked it up, turned and threw the ball all the way back while barely breaking stride - reader I married him! (Tbf there were other reasons too but damn)

HedgehogB · 11/10/2024 16:52

Gosh, this thread is my husband. He’s tall, dark, very masculine . He’s in his 50’s but pretty muscly and can do EVERYTHING from fixing cars to diy he even welds models together in his man cave which I find weirdly attractive? . He was a biker in the past as well and his leathers ….. aaargh . He’s great with dogs, babies …. Brings me tea in bed every morning and is great in bed. I’m extremely ordinary (!) but feel very lucky and fancy him every time he fixes something in the house. Oh he’s also a wonderful stepdad to my teenage son and dad / grandad to his kids Xbox their babies. I could go on …

TheDogsMother · 11/10/2024 16:55

Too many to mention with DH as he completely embraces the housework but one that really made my heart flip was to do with my pets. My three cats and dog all adored him (which is a winner in itself) and when the cats got a little older and infirm he built them a special little ramp with small steps on so they could get up to their favourite spot on top of the washing machine 😍

CurlewKate · 11/10/2024 16:56

The competence porn thing is interesting. So many men seem to think it applies only to traditional "manly" competence. But seeing men cooking without fuss or mess, taking care of babies, ironing.....

HideousKinky · 11/10/2024 16:56

At a party a man I had known a while but never thought particularly attractive started singing whilst my daughter accompanied on piano - it was "La Bamba" and he is a fluent Spanish speaker.... I saw him in a whole new light

guccibag · 11/10/2024 16:58

This thread has nailed it- its totally competence!!

I could watch competence porn for hours and hours- just watching men do things competently (with their sleeves up). Just getting shit done.

fans self

IlooklikeNigella · 11/10/2024 17:03

Hahahaha this thread is hilarious.

An ex-colleague in work made no impression on me whatsoever until the day he stood up to deliver training. He walked up to the whiteboard (this was quite a while back) with various coloured pens which he then proceeded to hold between his left fingers tossing each one into the air before effortlessly catching it in his right hand and writing on the board. It was the hottest thing I had ever seen.

Dramatic · 11/10/2024 17:04

Absolutely agree with the competence thing, my DH does all sorts of DIY, he cooks, cleans, realises something needs doing and does it. Very sexy.

He also does a manual job and there's nothing more sexy than when he walks in with his hi Vis gear on, work trousers and boots looking a bit grubby. Makes me want to rip his clothes off immediately

TrishM80 · 11/10/2024 17:05

You lot are easily pleased.

Blarn · 11/10/2024 17:06

Watching someone take over driving a people carrier onto a work's carpark. I found him a bit annoying before but seeing this strong forearm work the gear stick and bizarre handbrake absolutely did it for me!

Picking up my DS from a party in one of those big community halls. One of the dads was in the kitchen with a pair of marigolds elbow deep in washing up water. I've never fancied a man more than in that moment 😂 if it wasn't for that incident, I wouldn't have given him a second glance.

You are my kin. Love a man in marigolds. Topless helps.

Velvian · 11/10/2024 17:08

I'm partial to chunky knitwear and a sensible car.😂

But you're all 💯 right about capability and just getting on with something.

DramaAlpaca · 11/10/2024 17:08

I've thought of something else, this time about my DH and not attractive guys I work with Grin

A couple of months after I started seeing DH, we went on holiday to a Greek island for a week. The first night, we were lying on the sand after dark, looking up at the stars. He started pointing out the constellations. I was so impressed that he knew all their names - and I knew right then I was going to marry him.

Pulled me out of a really deep ditch he’d watched me fall in because of a speeding car on a country road then caught my horse. I just remember looking at these forearms when he was pulling me out then I looked into a pool of brown eyes. I was pregnant within the year 🫢

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 good for you 😁😁😁😆😆

Yes. Or doing emotional labour. Like managing a toddler tantrum calmly or remaining empathic and calm despite the other persons deregulation. My DH is not like this but when I see other men do it or the few times he does it is so attractive. Stepping up.

I have crush on Kier Starmer for that reason. He just seems so calm and doesn’t get sucked into hyperbole. Time will tell.

MrMucker · 11/10/2024 17:11

I'll settle for a correctly made sandwich-the filling actually up to the edge is the lowest bar- and leaving a mess free kitchen bench after it without the requirement of a round of applause (for the bench).
If there are forearms to watch in all of this, yeah... bonus.

Howverybritish · 11/10/2024 17:13

First time DP stayed the night he checked all my doors were locked (not a euphemism!). Biggest turn on ever!
