Dog came to our house viewing

Our estate agent brought a potential buyer round to view our house today who turned up with their dog. I saw them on the front door ring camera carry it in to our house but when I checked the back garden camera I could see it walking on our carpet!

We have a 5 year old and a 5 month old and it walked all over where the boys play (luckily most of their things were put away for the visit) and the estate agent knows this.

The dog also was carried into their bedroom and held above our baby’s cot.

if this hadn’t annoyed me enough when asked about it the estate agent lied and said the dog was carried the whole time. When I told her we can see it on the ring she said she’d make a note that no pets would be allowed on future viewings and that’s it ok as the dog didn’t go to the toilet in our garden.

I don’t think I’m being unreasonable but just wanted to gauge opinions before I speak to the agent properly tomorrow and whether that’s normal behaviour or is as bizarre as I think it is.

My cats would go bonkers so no I wouldn't be impressed.

VoteLabour · 01/10/2024 21:24

I'd be changing estate agent because I'd been lied to.

Baffers100 · 01/10/2024 21:25

You're not being unreasonable at all. I'd have complained to their manager (assuming you have made it absolutely clear no dogs are to be in the house....though the thoughts of even thinking you could take a dog to a viewing I think is bizarre, mind you many people are very stupid).

The fact they lied about it when you asked too makes me very angry. Can you take your business elsewhere?

Horsesontheloose · 01/10/2024 21:25

Eh no, that is not acceptable and I am a dog owner. Also weird that people take dogs into clothes shops nowadays. Idiotic.

byteme1011 · 01/10/2024 21:25

Yeah I'd also be changing estate agent - I am a dog lover and have one, I would never bring a dog to a house viewing and I'd be pissed if someone brought a dog into my house without asking for permission

jellybeanlover2 · 01/10/2024 21:25

YANBU - I can not imagine my life without a dog, but this is madness and wrong.

lemonyellows · 01/10/2024 21:26

Can anyone explain why you would take a dog to a house viewing? Bizarre.

redtrain123 · 01/10/2024 21:26

I guess I could forgive a chihuahua which was carried the whole time, but not a dog walking through the house. I have a dog, and it would get really agitated by a strange dog in the house.

SurelySmartie · 01/10/2024 21:26

So… what did it think of your house?

Sweetiedarling2024 · 01/10/2024 21:26

I have 2 dogs. I love them. However, this is ridiculous. The estate agent had no right, nor reason, to allow a dog into your home. What if you, or your children (!!), were allergic. If I were you, I’d lodge a complaint. You did not consent to allowing a dog into your home, in my mind they’ve essentially trespassed - whilst simultaneously putting you and your family in a potentially dangerous situation.

Pusheen467 · 01/10/2024 21:28

Who the fuck would take a dog to a house viewing? Absolutely cannot stand thjs culture of people taking their dogs everywhere.

TypingoftheDead · 01/10/2024 21:28

ThePoshUns · 01/10/2024 20:28

That's so disrespectful.
I have a dog myself, I wouldn't dream of imposing her in that way.
I'd be really cross.
As others said you or your children may have severe allergies to dogs.

Same - my mum has a dog, I love dogs, too - but I’d still be very annoyed if we were selling her house and a viewer did this to us.

dizzydizzydizzy · 01/10/2024 21:28

How strange to take your pet to a house viewing!

Mum2jenny · 01/10/2024 21:29

I’m obviously out on a limb but I’d prefer a dog to be accompanying a viewing than any children. What harm does a dog present, unless the owners are allergic to dogs?

Fanlover1122 · 01/10/2024 21:29

I bring my dog to house viewings….7 figure properties…..

I do check with the agent though - whether or not it’s ok, it may be entitled of me, but at the price point I am looking at I don’t expect to hear a no 🤭

RickyBobbysKFC · 01/10/2024 21:30

Fucking madness. Get the EA to pay for a carpet clean as another poster suggested. How disrespectful.

BeMintBee · 01/10/2024 21:32

I have a dog and wouldn’t be happy about this. To be honest wasn’t that thrilled about people bringing their kids to view our house!

maybe it’s because my dog is a bit of a tit so we don’t take him with us everywhere but I just don’t see the need for dogs in cafes and shops. I don’t want to trip over your mutt in John Lewis or Boots thanks and I don’t want to listen to it yapping whilst I eat.

pleasehelpwi3 · 01/10/2024 21:33

Change estate agents, email the boss and leave feedback online.
I like (some) dogs, but this is odd. What's next, bringing their cat?
Also not a good sign that the EA lied about it. What else will they/have they lied about?

It's still someone else's home. Leave the dog elsewhere, it doesn't have an opinion on the layout.

Nopenope99nope · 01/10/2024 21:34

I think it’s odd when adults have attachment issues to their pets. It’s just a few mins - leave it home.

YANBU. Change estate agent.

I'm sure it's a wind up.
Probably posting from prison!

underused · 01/10/2024 21:35

The dog is moving house too - it's only fair he should get to look around

peachesarenom · 01/10/2024 21:35

The agent lied to you, that's the biggest issue I think
