Dog came to our house viewing

Our estate agent brought a potential buyer round to view our house today who turned up with their dog. I saw them on the front door ring camera carry it in to our house but when I checked the back garden camera I could see it walking on our carpet!

We have a 5 year old and a 5 month old and it walked all over where the boys play (luckily most of their things were put away for the visit) and the estate agent knows this.

The dog also was carried into their bedroom and held above our baby’s cot.

if this hadn’t annoyed me enough when asked about it the estate agent lied and said the dog was carried the whole time. When I told her we can see it on the ring she said she’d make a note that no pets would be allowed on future viewings and that’s it ok as the dog didn’t go to the toilet in our garden.

I don’t think I’m being unreasonable but just wanted to gauge opinions before I speak to the agent properly tomorrow and whether that’s normal behaviour or is as bizarre as I think it is.

thats terrible, definitely look for another estate agent, and send them thr house cleaning bill

Whyherewego · 01/10/2024 20:36

It's the lying that would bother me. Basically that means you can never trust what they are saying

purpleme12 · 01/10/2024 20:38

I don't trust estate agents in general

Ellie56 · 01/10/2024 20:42

Absolutely outrageous and grossly unprofessional of the EA.

How do they know someone who lives in the house doesn't have a severe allergy to dogs?

Filthy animals. And I don't care for dogs either.

purpleme12 · 01/10/2024 20:45

😂

vodkaredbullgirl · 01/10/2024 20:45

Not okay and I have dogs.

goneaway2 · 01/10/2024 20:46

Good grief. What if you already have your own dog in the house? Mine would have gone ballistic if it was another male dog in his house even if he was inside his crate.

ExtraOnions · 01/10/2024 20:47

“Fur baby” types .. who think the dog has an opinion on the house, and should have an equal say on the decison to move

2chocolateoranges · 01/10/2024 20:47

I would be furious and would be having words with the estate agent.

ds and I have an allergy to animal hair and I’ve ended up in hospital due to breathing issues when I ended up in a house where there wasn’t supposed to have been a dog.

Tangledteatowel · 01/10/2024 20:48

I have taken our dog to several viewings before – but we did check with the EA and made sure they checked with the owners beforehand (and we said it was no problem to leave the dog elsewhere if it was a problem). Most (about 5 or 6 properties I think) had absolutely no issue with it, and one owner asked us to leave the dog outside while we viewed the house which was fine. None asked us not to bring the dog at all (even though we said we wouldn't mind doing so). I wouldn't ever just turn up with a dog and expect to walk into someone's house though and that's really shoddy of the EA to lie to you.

Flickeringgreenflame · 01/10/2024 20:48

I once viewed a house for sale. The family was still there. They tied up the dog and left their small son to roam free. The child was a little demon - I found out later they were selling the house after finding him hanging suspended from a balcony over a very steep drop. Anyway I spent most of the viewing utterly distracted by his behaviour. I told the estate agent for future reference I didn't mind dogs but was much less keen on children roaming.

PennyApril54 · 01/10/2024 20:49

They should've phoned to ask you or suggested one of the couple stayed with the dog while the other looked around, then swapped, or dog stayed in the car etc. or insisted that it was carried the whole time (although this is still strange without permission).

Totally not normal or ok, and I’d also be really unimpressed with the agent’s cavalier attitude when you raised it.

King Charles Cavalier attitude?

I think you'll get dog lovers coming on the thread saying yabu, but I for one would be as annoyed as you or more. I'd give notice to the agent and use a better one

Not at all. I wouldn’t want some random persons dog in my home, and I have pets.

PoppysAunt · 01/10/2024 20:50

Unbelievable. So entitled and rude.
In all honesty, I would have asked them to leave it outside if it was me.
I just don't understand why some people have to take their dogs everywhere.

livelovelough24 · 01/10/2024 20:50

I have a dog and love them but would never think to take her to the house viewing and yes, the agent should have totally told them no.

Patienceinshortsupply · 01/10/2024 20:32

I'd be changing estate agents. And feeding back why.

That's appalling that someone has shown such a lack of respect for your property.

I'd be changing them purely based on the fact they lied about it and didn't even apologise when found out. Total disrespect and can't be trusted.

Mumblechum0 · 01/10/2024 20:52

But why would you bring your dog @Tangledteatowel ?

chocaholic73 · 01/10/2024 20:53

I have a dog and have done for many years. It would never occur to me that a dog would be brought to a house viewing. It is just not on.

StrongandNorthern · 01/10/2024 20:53

Absolutely NOT Ok!

Dog lovers probably lack common sense, if they do.

Mnetcurious · 01/10/2024 20:54

Yanbu. We have allergies to furry things in this house, I’d be really cross and making it clear to the agent absolutely no dogs allowed in the house, ‘carried’ or not.

Londonrach1 · 01/10/2024 20:54

Yanbu. Id be changing estate agents. It's very strange that anyone being a dog to a viewing but even stranger the agent allowed it. Did they put an offer in

101Nutella · 01/10/2024 20:55

YANBU-there’s no need for a dog to come to a viewing at all.

the fact the estate agent has a lack of integrity and is willing to lie and cover things up is an issue. I wouldn’t be able to trust them or that they had my best interests at heart. I don’t want to be dramatic but I would at least ask for that one to be removed from my sale or I would change EA.
