To think kitten heels are now acceptable?

eyesofocean · 20/09/2024 22:35

So I used to wear the high heels and now I live in trainers and boots.

But I see kitten heels a lot now and some lovely ones in Zara.

Just because something is available doesn’t make it “fashionable” though

I would hope most people wear what they like etc rather than what is "fashionable". 🙄

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 21/09/2024 14:01

Are people being deliberately obtuse? Obviously OP is talking about whether they're fashionable.

You may not care. But it's obvious what she means.

@eyesofocean I don’t know if you’re
being facetious BUT kitten heels have been fashionable all along as an alternative to high heels more so than wedges and block heels.
Maybe you’re not petite, but for petite ladies proportionately it’s the go to height.
Are you relatively young and basing your new appreciation based on the last 2 years? Or magazines?
they are a classic.

@eyesofocean is authoritatively talking rubbish.

Let me hold your hand whilst I say this as it may come as a shock …

Kitten heels haven’t been fashionable since the 00s.

Why so rude? Is sarcasm a speciality?

No, no one is being obtuse. The OP is authoritatively spouting nonsense.

Ok couple of things,

  1. Where has the boat analogy came from?
  1. Why be so literal about it. Maybe the OP could have said unfashionable instead of inappropriate but you KNEW what she meant. You and other posters just want to feel superior

I bought up the boat thing!
I was trying to get the OP to explain why she used 'acceptable, because what is acceptable in one place, or to one person, is not acceptable in another place, or by another person. So, I said they would be unacceptable on the deck of a boat as they would ruin the teak!
However, @eyesofocean remains stubbornly unable to clarify why the shoes are 'unacceptable' rather than 'unfashionable'.
I didn't realise what is acceptable fashion is down to a single MN poster!

Growlybear83 · 21/09/2024 14:15

I had assumed that the boat comment was a reference to the OP's user name 😆😆

TammyOne · 21/09/2024 14:17

OP it’s just that Theresa May is the first thing that springs to mind when anyone says kitten heels 💁
In your pics, I like the short dress outfit but I really don’t think kitten heels go with floppy jeans. ( just my opinion)

Words have different meanings for various reasons. Clarity being one of them.
Acceptable is NOT the same as fashionable. Kitten heels may not be acceptable to the OP, but that does not mean they are unfashionable, and it is ridiculous to interchange the two.

Boomer55 · 21/09/2024 14:19

Does it matter what others think about your shoes? 🤷‍♀️

Because it's Aibu and they're all so weirdly bitter and snippy. It's so weird

Because acceptable has a different bloody meaning
And just because they are an 'unacceptable' item to the OP doesn't make them unacceptable to the rest of the world, nor 'unfashionable'

DillDanding · 21/09/2024 14:23

In terms of trends, they have made a bit of a comeback this year.

I am not a fan as they tend to render the wearer’s legs short and fat. Most unflattering.

Sologurn · 21/09/2024 14:25

@NQOCDarling you seem angry. Hope you're ok

You know it’s not just me saying this?

I didn’t wake up yesterday and say jeans are forever out of style and what I say goes.

This js from what I’ve seen and read.

Really? It's Audrey Hepburn for me, especially in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Theresa May, particularly before she became PM was actually a very stylish dresser so that's not the "gotcha" you might think it is.

Because tbh, I think I might know slightly more about this than you do.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 21/09/2024 14:30

I wear what suits me rather than what is deemed fashionable by a bunch of randoms who work in fashion and therefore have a vested interest in ensuring there is an ever revolving and changing list of what is currently “fashionable” to keep us buying new stuff

ludocris · 21/09/2024 14:30

Usual load of twattish comments on here I see. People claiming the OP is being obtuse and authoritative because she used the word 'acceptable' rather than 'fashionable' (or the opposites, can't remember). What a load of bollocks.

Honestly people on AIBU just LOVE having a go at an OP. And sometimes they have to really stretch to find something to have a go about...

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 21/09/2024 14:33

I hadn’t been aware of them not being acceptable!

Im not a fan personally as shoes with kitten heels often tend to be either sling backs or courts which won’t stay on my feet.

I’m a flats person these days - usually trainers of some kind or boots - or if I must where a heel (a black tie event maybe?) it will have to be a very well supporting one.

Er, no. It was a poster supporting the OP who sugggested everyone who disagreed with the OP was "obtuse"

NunyaBeeswax · 21/09/2024 14:38

Kitten heels are obviously acceptable, there is no section of Belmarsh for women wearing kitten heels in 2021

They may go in and out of fashion, but that means nothing to a person's style.
Fashion is just a cycle of what the shops try to lead women to purchase to keep their profits going. Style is a completely different matter.

A stylish, put together woman wearing kitten heels in any decade can look far better than another woman slavishly following fashion.

Find your style, ignore what you're being flogged, wear what is comfortable and makes you feel good.

....

Unless it's Hey Dudes. Then it's straight to H&M Wing of Belmarsh.

🤪

Maybe try thinking for yourself instead of following 'fashion'.

Wear what you like, I can't imagine having or spending time worrying over others judging my shoes... sounds utterly exhausting and boring.
