To think kitten heels are now acceptable?

So I used to wear the high heels and now I live in trainers and boots.

But I see kitten heels a lot now and some lovely ones in Zara.

Well they are back on trend which makes them acceptable to some people. I don’t love them so won’t wear them just because they are in fashion.

New2thisshizzle · 21/09/2024 10:41

Happy to have a lot more MJ/ballet options back in the shops though.

Because maybe the OP should think for herself instead of needing validation from others who may have different tastes?

If you like something, and it's not inappropriate, eg on a boat where they'll damage the deck and you're more likely to fall over, then wear them. Does it really matter if other people don't like them.

I went out in a city for the first time in a while yesterday and what struck me was how just about everyone was dressed the same* whether it suited them or not.

*short tight top, wide leg jeans that at any other time in history would have led to bullying as were half mast and horrible trainers

Ok couple of things,

  1. Where has the boat analogy came from?
  1. Why be so literal about it. Maybe the OP could have said unfashionable instead of inappropriate but you KNEW what she meant. You and other posters just want to feel superior

I used to work with a woman in kitten heels in the early 00s and I always thought to myself how bloody gorgeous she looked in them. Her legs looked longer (without the daftness of high heels) and they looked dainty under her very cool suit.
I decided then that I’d rather look like her any day than worry about what the fashion police like OP are saying.

please send me some links for beautiful kitten heels, I’m going to treat myself to some!

RampantIvy · 21/09/2024 10:44

I think the issue about knowing what is on trend is that the shops are full of clothes and footwear that the fashionistas insist are dated.

For example the shops are full of skinny jeans (and wide leg) so, unless you read fashion blogs/magazies etc, you won't automatically think that skinnies are dated because they are available everywhere.

GoldenSunflowers · 21/09/2024 09:56

Come on, everyone. Don’t be disingenuous. We don’t wear big daisy floral patterns in orange and brown because 1) they’re dated 2) it’s not a dress-up-back-to-the 60s party. I’m sure a gorgeous young woman would be able to pull it off and look stylish, but most of us would stay clear. It’s ok to ask what’s in if you don’t want to give it more headspace than buying a pair of shoes because you need them.

Is op also being disingenuous though? She's seen them in shops that sell fashionable clothes and accessories, logically they must be currently in fashion. Google might have confirmed this or the s&b board rather than here.

well tbf once the trend has hit the mainstream shops it may be classed as outdated by the fashionistas.

Shops will always sell what sells because not everything is led by trends. Skinnies are actually back as they were on the catwalks & the whole 00s but will take time to filter though.

Threetrees745 · 21/09/2024 11:05

All the posters that came here to jump on the OP and say they don't care about fashion etc are giving severe pick me girl energy.

Some people enjoy and care about fashion and being on trend. Your not superior and more enlightened if you don't.

New2thisshizzle · 21/09/2024 11:05

You can really care about fashion but not be particularly into trends though. They are not the same.

Love how all the posters are giving the faux confusion trying to ask what the poster means by acceptable, knowing fine well that for about 25 years absolutely no one except your granny was wearing a kitten heel 🤣

You all KNOW what the OP means, why is everyone being a dick about it?

To be fair OP is coming back with pretty odd comments. Kitten heels were fashionable in the 60s and the 90s at the very least but OP is adamant they weren’t acceptable ever before. 🙄

Because they want to indicate that they think fashion is stupid I guess

CockneyWheezer · 21/09/2024 11:14

I’ve worn kitten heel boots for decades, as I love that they look like you’re wearing a heel/look dressy, but aren’t hard to walk in. I’m 5’11, so I hated the towering heels trend in the noughties.

Zara have always been faithful to them! But they haven’t been widely available for a good 15 years or more in the high street, and thry are definitely back in shops again after being harder to find. So I’d say, yes, they’re back ‘on trend’.

I'm assuming that the OP is probably a similar age to me then as I understand completely what she is saying. My "going out" era was the late 2000s and early 2010s and it was all about the sky scraper stiletto platforms and no one would have been seen dead in a kitten heel.
She's probably just pointing out that they were considered very unfashionable for a very long time and now they seem to have made a come back, but instead of prompting a light hearted discussion people are responding with sneery faux confusion and meanness.

Because it's Aibu and they're all so weirdly bitter and snippy. It's so weird

TammyOne · 21/09/2024 11:27

I didn’t even realise they were back in the shops!
I don’t know OP. I was never a fan (always found it harder to keep my balance on a kitten heel than a blocky 1940s style heel)
Also, do you want to look like Theresa May?

If the OP had said fashionable in her post it would have been different. It's her conflation of unfashionable meaning unacceptable that riles people up. I don't think not caring about fashion makes me a better person but I also don't think caring about it makes what someone a better person or what they wear more acceptable.

iamtheblcksheep · 21/09/2024 11:42

I ditched everything that wasn’t a ballet pump, trained or this heeled boot years ago. Where whatever the hell you want. Your feet will be grateful

HoppingPavlova · 21/09/2024 11:55

Shit, I never got the memo 🫤. Seems I’ve been wearing an old pair in a long period I was not meant to🤷‍♀️. How I havn’t been tackled in the street and had them pulled off, I don’t know. However, I do know what to wear on the deck of a boat and have never made a faux pas there. Where does this odd set of circumstances leave me in terms of acceptability🤔.

Haroldwilson · 21/09/2024 11:58

Surely that's cruel to cats

No, I’ve been there once twice, once to just see it and once for work.

Why don’t you verbalise what you’re asking trying to say.

fossilgap · 21/09/2024 13:46

I’m average size and average height and I bought them and felt like a twat so I sent them back

I think they look nice to dress up a basic outfit, whereas actually I would think they were horrendous a few years ago.

And because one woman wears something then if you do too then you are instantly looking like her?

Not for me but only because I can't walk in them! I need a platform and have some incredible platforms that were my Moms from the 70s that I wear when I need heels but then I've never wore what's in fashion and always looked "vintage"

I'm also aware that the 90s are now considered vintage......
