To think kitten heels are now acceptable?

So I used to wear the high heels and now I live in trainers and boots.

But I see kitten heels a lot now and some lovely ones in Zara.

Eh?? Wear what you like 🤷‍♀️

LunaNorth · 21/09/2024 04:59

Oops, I’ve always liked them. Have a lovely pair of red suede ankle boots with a kitten heel. Never been stoned in the street, but now I’m wondering if I look a dick in them.

Oh well.

Chaoseverywhere · 21/09/2024 08:31

I would accept you in them 🙏

Catlover77 · 21/09/2024 08:37

They have been out of fashion for years, for those posters saying they have always been in fashion. They seem to have become acceptable over the last year or two

FatOaf · 21/09/2024 08:42

Unless they are actual heels removed from kittens, they always were acceptable.

I don't think "acceptable" was the word you were looking for.

They have been out of fashion for years

So have intelligence, courtesy, comprehensible speech, honesty and empathy. Does that mean they're unacceptable?

Bjorkdidit · 21/09/2024 08:48

Threetrees745 · 21/09/2024 03:05

Love how all the posters are giving the faux confusion trying to ask what the poster means by acceptable, knowing fine well that for about 25 years absolutely no one except your granny was wearing a kitten heel 🤣

You all KNOW what the OP means, why is everyone being a dick about it?

Because maybe the OP should think for herself instead of needing validation from others who may have different tastes?

If you like something, and it's not inappropriate, eg on a boat where they'll damage the deck and you're more likely to fall over, then wear them. Does it really matter if other people don't like them.

I went out in a city for the first time in a while yesterday and what struck me was how just about everyone was dressed the same* whether it suited them or not.

*short tight top, wide leg jeans that at any other time in history would have led to bullying as were half mast and horrible trainers

fossilgap · 21/09/2024 03:08

I know they’re in fashion, but I can’t bring myself to like them, plus also unless you’re super skinny, you look like an enormous weight on tiny heels

I'm inclined to agree with you. I just don't like them at all (for me).

GoldenSunflowers · 21/09/2024 08:55

The shape of the current heel is different though. It’s more splayed at the bottom.

GoldenSunflowers · 21/09/2024 08:57

To think kitten heels are now acceptable?
Allfur · 21/09/2024 08:58

What a depressing way to live life

Dishwashersaurous · 21/09/2024 08:59

They've always been available to buy and thus clearly acceptable.

DappledThings · 21/09/2024 09:00

eyesofocean · 21/09/2024 02:40

Just because something is available doesn’t make it “fashionable” though

Fashionable isn't the same meaning as acceptable. I have no idea what's fashionable but other than something obscene then it's all acceptable.

Think you meant to post this in Style and Beauty where people do think those words mean the same thing.

eyesofocean · 21/09/2024 09:45

GildedRage · 21/09/2024 02:59

@eyesofocean I don’t know if you’re
being facetious BUT kitten heels have been fashionable all along as an alternative to high heels more so than wedges and block heels.
Maybe you’re not petite, but for petite ladies proportionately it’s the go to height.
Are you relatively young and basing your new appreciation based on the last 2 years? Or magazines?
they are a classic.

Let me hold your hand whilst I say this as it may come as a shock …

Kitten heels haven’t been fashionable since the 00s.

Growlybear83 · 21/09/2024 09:47

Who decides whether something is supposedly fashionable? And why on earth does it matter? Surely people wear what they like, what is comfortable, and what they know suits them? I don't think I've ever known anyone in real life who is shallow enough to give a toss about whether something is fashionable or not.

Dwappy · 21/09/2024 09:53

I've never been able to wear high heels. I just cannot walk in them without lots of pain. I was "lucky" that I was young and bothered by what was in fashion in the late 90s early 00s so kitten heels were easy to find.
I'm so glad that I'm in my 40s now and couldn't give a rats arse what's in fashion. If I want to wear kitten heels I would. (I don't though these days. I'd rather just wear trainers or flat shoes)

What are people who cannot wear high heels meant to do though if/when kitten heels are "not in fashion"? Wear flat shoes? Or just never leave the house because what they can wear isn't acceptable?

GoldenSunflowers · 21/09/2024 09:56

Come on, everyone. Don’t be disingenuous. We don’t wear big daisy floral patterns in orange and brown because 1) they’re dated 2) it’s not a dress-up-back-to-the 60s party. I’m sure a gorgeous young woman would be able to pull it off and look stylish, but most of us would stay clear. It’s ok to ask what’s in if you don’t want to give it more headspace than buying a pair of shoes because you need them.

But how often do people really look at what people are wearing on their feet?
Wearing a bright orange floral dress would be much more noticeable than whether someone is wearing heels that are half an inch or 5 inches surely?

Growlybear83 · 21/09/2024 10:00

I would wear (and do wear regularly) big daisy floral patterns, but in pink and purple rather than orange and brown, because they are not colours that suit me. I wear what I like, not what I'm told to like. I've got to my mid sixties without being influenced by what is supposedly fashionable and will remain that way until I draw my last breath.

(b) So what?

Is that you Anna?
If not, please note that nobody has appointed you the arbiter of taste.

Threads like these are always split into two groups:

  1. The fashion police
  2. Posters who want to look stylish, but want to wer what suits them and what is comfortable and suits their lifestyle
Growlybear83 · 21/09/2024 10:30

@RampantIvy And people like me who don't have the slightest interest in whether they look stylish, but want to wear what they know suits them and what they feel good wearing. 😆

That's simply not true. Every time I have been to a wedding the last 20 years multiple women of all ages have been in kitten heels.

Why so ageist?

I think wearing what suits you and makes you feel good comes under being stylish, but I agree with you.

Pop yourself over to style and beauty. You'll get better comments.

Even S&B is full of doe-eyed faux-naivety now though Halo
