I've heard her put on a weird voice and repeatedly say, 20+ times, Scooby Dooby Doo in said weird voice. Turned off and 10 minutes later went into a shop that had Radio 2 on and she was still doing it. FFS she's paid a fortune for that nonsense and we're paying through the licence fee.

Wow. Do you not like 70s music or not like Johnny Walker? His show is one of the last that shows real musical intelligence. Walker is a consumate professional, compare him to the drivel that the non-professional DJ ("entertainers") spew out and its chalk and cheese. When he goes - and he's very ill - it's another nail in the R2 coffin.

You do you, I like who I like, you like who you like, but its genuinely sad to see that people want people like Johnny Walker to stop broadcasting.

No, I don’t like 70’s music. It’s dreary. Nothing against JW personally but its too dull for words. And 15 years before I was born…

I love her and don’t understand the daily mumsnet hatred towards her.

@oakleaffy I’ve reported posts in the past but apparently the Radio 2 djs hatred is allowed.

It makes no sense.

It's a bit hypocritical.

One can freely write about disliking a female Radio 2 presenter, but others saying they don't like the style and content of a woman comedian, and that is pulled.

That's a very hackneyed response isn't it? I've wobbled my head - no, still won't be listening. Didn't help.

@oakleaffy I don't like Sara Cox on the radio because I think much of the style and content of her show is childish and immature. She's better on the TV. I don't know her as a person and I might like her if I did, I don't know. It's not because she's a woman, it's because she often acts silly on the radio and I feel it's annoying. Yesterday was nails down a blackboard. Scooby dooby doo over and over. It's not children's radio.

I don't know about the woman comedian as I didn't see the thread. We are allowed to have opinions on celebrities and shows, it's how they're expressed that matters.

I'd have felt just as annoyed if a male presenter had done the same thing. I can't stand Rob Beckett's Sunday afternoon show either. I've never seen him in any other context and don't dislike him as an individual but I don't like his show. @Dolliesdisasterousdayout It's very strong to talk about hatred. It's irritation and annoyance, not hatred.

She puts on the most annoying babyish voice. I think she does it to make herself seem kind of soft and welcoming but it’s just so cringey.

Yep, I agree.

“i don't know about the woman comedian as I didn't see the thread. We are allowed to have opinions on celebrities and shows, it's how they're expressed that matters.”

I don’t really see any difference in the comments made about Sara Cox, to those about Rosie Jones. They’re both disliking their ‘acts’, rather than them, per se.

This 'I pay her wages' outrage always irritates me.

You don't pay her wages any more than someone further down the thread who likes her. Or myself, who has no opinion because I don't listen to the radio.

What you do do, certainly, is contribute a teeny-weeny amount to the BBC, who then provide everything from the Shipping Forecast to Wimbledon Tennis to Only Connect to numerous radio stations to international news on TV and online to David Attenborough documentaries to one-off drama to long-running series to educational programs to CBeebies.....and so on and so on and bloody hell there's loads of it.

Unless you read or watch or listen to not a single thing the BBC produces, the fact that you 'pay for it' is completely irrelevant to your not liking Sara Cox who, incidentally, plenty of people do like, as one can tell from the listening figures. In which, by the way, you're included.

There was another thread just up about a female Comedian where people were saying they didn't like the style of comedy - It was pulled immediately, yet this one criticising another woman is allowed to stand?

Would Sara Cox not be equally upset if she saw this- or is the other comedian's feelings considered more important, @MNHQ

Criticism of a presenting style is fine. We all like different things. It's zero to do with Sara Cox being a woman. I don't like Rob Beckett's show because of his style of chat either. I don't like Liza Tarbuck or Elaine Paige's shows either. Not fussed on Jeremy Vine. I don't understand the criticism of Richie Anderson. Someone upthread called him a very unkind name and he's not a woman. (Not defending that, name calling is horrible. Note I've not done that with Sara Cox, I've talked about the way she comes across on the radio. I like Jo Whiley, Edith Bowman, Chris Hawkins, Cerys Matthews - all a long winded way of making the point that it doesn't matter if it's a lad or a lass, if they're annoying on the radio they just are.

I don't want to hear nonsense suited to the under 12s (ie Scooby Dooby Doo x30) on a show aimed at adults.

All those mentioning Scott Mills, come to Team Spoony! Let R2 know! #scottout #spoonyin

cutiechops · 10/09/2024 14:21

Let R2 know!

How? I agree Spoony is much better but lots of others seem to like Scott. I find him dull and that birthday game is pants!

Scott Mills is a million times better at breakfast than afternoon. Spoony is great. I remember when Sara Cox did the R1 breakfast show and Scott used to cover there too and got so many positive comments.

I really like Jo Whiley, Zoe Ball, and Sara Cox. Probably because they were so cool when I was young (I’m 40 next year), and they've stayed cool as we've all grown older!

I also like Rylan and Romesh. Don't mind Michael Ball.

I can't stand Liza Tarbuck or Elaine Page (especially that 'hyuck hyuck' laugh she does).

Scott Mills and OJ Borg are booooooring.

Sarah Cox = DJ love child of Steve Wright and Lisa Tarbuck.

And I cannot stand either of their DJ'ing...

Cactusmad · 10/09/2024 17:44

Just been listening to Sara cox , love her northern accent. Usually listen to radio 4 but put her on at teatime in the car . Love the teatime bit with Bobby , nice escapism.

Radionowhere · 10/09/2024 17:49

I love her! Wish she was my friend. Takes all sorts OP Grin

@BogRollBOGOF oh Mills 😬 I've emailed Radio 2 on a few occasions asking for Spoony to permanently replace him!

Yes I love Spoony and would much rather listen to him than Scott daily :)

RhubarbStrawberry · 09/09/2024 19:00

Why did she keep saying Scooby Doo? Was it some sort of game? Surely there was a reason for it? I saw her on Back in Time for School (i think it was her) and she was good.

Yea it's just for a phone in game. They do different phrases to show.people listening
I loved Back.in Time for Tea ;)

mamaandbabas · 10/09/2024 18:31

I like her, but her "jokes" on the programme Between The Covers are dire and spoil the programme for me.

LindorDoubleChoc · 10/09/2024 18:37

I love Romesh, Liza and am really enjoying DJ Spoony sitting in for Scott Mills in the afternoon. I also like Amol Rajan when he makes an appearance. I miss Claudia and Paul O'Grady so much, they were my favourite two shows of the week.

I'm fine with Sarah Cox and Zoe and Vernon, quite like but don't lurve.

Jo Whiley sometimes, but really cringe through her sycophantic interviews with bands and Paul Weller. She seems to have Paul Weller on every other week!

Not keen on Rylan, Scott Mills or Jeremy Vine - but I think with Jezza it's mainly that he does a phone-in and I find them pretty intolerable.

I can't bear Gary Davies and yet so many on these threads seem to like him!

Everyone's different - funny eh?

YorkshireMedusa · 10/09/2024 18:50

I just got in the car, put on the radio and R2 was on. Sara did the Scooby Dooby Doo thing and then some unintelligible noises that I assume are an impression of Scooby Doo. So it's a new thing on her show I imagine.

Imagine it probably was Scooby-do based on the evidence OP. She often talks nonsense - most listeners either like it or turn over. Personally I think she’s lovely. Ditto Scott Mills although Jo Wiley is my favourite.

Bit worried about Zoe.

Oh Christ! Liza tarbuck…. She’s a whole new stratosphere of annoying. Like nails on a blackboard

I'm with you. Probably the only presenter I have to switch off.

I don't mind Sara Cox. I liked Michael Ball's 11am show but now they've given it to Paddy and moved him to Steve Wright's soppy love songs - Why?

I loved Paul O'Grady and really like Rylan.

mightyducks · 10/09/2024 19:11

Completely agree , I can’t deal with the weird put on voices either! As a Bolton girl I really want to like her but I just can’t stand it! every time she’s on I turn over the radio
