Perfectly normal 3-bed semi, right?

Someone has put a lot of time into this, but AIBU to think it would sell better if they just... painted it all white?

I love how the agents have just gone with it in the description 😂

Ffs22 · 05/09/2024 09:06

not my cup of tea, but I wouldn’t want to paint over all that hard work so I wouldn’t buy it.
Great description from the agents.

RoseDog · 05/09/2024 09:09

The description is brilliant!

Oddly the thing that stood out to me the most is the teddies on the stairs, I would fall and break my neck everyday!!

CassieMaddox · 05/09/2024 09:11

I love it! It's like a work of art, I'd keep at least some of it

AbigailisPartiedOut · 05/09/2024 09:12

Did they run out of budget when it got to the bathroom 😂

Fair play to the estate agent for the blurb. It's not my cup of tea although I do like the garden mural.

SquatWeightaMinute · 05/09/2024 09:14

I love the description, imagine having to try to sell such a unique property!

herecomesthesunyes · 05/09/2024 09:17

I bet kids would love it! Great fun, if totally bonkers. Couldn’t live in it, but love its energy 😂

PenelopePitStrop · 05/09/2024 09:18

“Parking for your Lightening McQueen” 😂

The clothes in the pink bedroom are adult size.

I can’t help but be impressed by someone who puts that amount of work into their passion.

It will sell fine if the house is otherwise good and priced right to allow for a few coats of paint. Or maybe to a fellow aficionado.

evtheria · 05/09/2024 09:18

Haha, the description...

For all the home tv shows we have I'd love one where they follow real estate agents to get their first look at these houses - seeing their faces as they walk through the doors and see these Disney murals, or find the S&M shed, etc.

Houseplanter · 05/09/2024 09:18

Estate Agent needs a bonus, if not an industry award

Ardrahan · 05/09/2024 09:19

You can imagine some estate agent saying ‘White paint!’ and, when they weren’t getting anywhere, just shrugging and going with it.

If that were the house type and location I was after, I’d probably go and look, because the gruesome decor may put off potential bidders, so you might get a bargain.

LadyDanburysHat · 05/09/2024 09:19

I would totally keep the cloudy sky in the living room, and just paint the walls plain.

FeedingThem · 05/09/2024 09:21

Gold star to whoever wrote that description

carrotcard · 05/09/2024 09:24

Why would you paint it white? The new owner might love it or they can paint it whatever colour they want. I think it's a bit rude to be all sneery about it. People can decorate their homes how they want.

Why is it ‘rude’? Do you think the vendors have never encountered a visitor who visibly did a double-take at the over-life-sized Disney mural in the sitting room, accessorised with a cloud ceiling, and a kitchen where all the units have WE DO DISNEY or Mickey and Minnie Mouse kissing stencils? Even if they have literally never met any other people, their estate agent will have warned them their decor is likely to put off some viewers, but they’ve decided not to alter it.

Op literally says why....to make it easier to sell 🙄

Nobody has suggested they couldn't decorate it however they wanted while they were living there
Of course they can.

But most people do NOT have a Disney mural home. Therefore most people would probably not want to BUY a Disney mural home. Therefore it would attract more people and be easier to sell if the home was decorated in a neutral manner. None of this is rocket science.

Yes someone else might love it and be willing to pay as is - but the chances of someone looking in that location for that price at that time who would love a Disney mural home is far lower than the amount of people looking in that price and location and time for a home they can easily decorate themselves/has minimal work needed. It's not like just one coat of paint will be enough to cover up the black outlines in the hallway or the maleficent room - in most of them the whole ceilings and walls will need about four or five white coats before any colour on top of other work that needs doing - the kitchen looks pretty old etc.

If you have 2 otherwise similar houses and one you can move into straight away and the other will need lots of work 99.99% of people will pick the easy one.

If they are not bothered about a quick sale and want to live in their house the way they like it until it is sold - which as it says "no chain" might be the case - then fair enough, which is why OPs heading wasn't "aibu to think people shouldn't be allowed to decorate their houses however they want."

You're arguing against a point that nobody has made.

WingsofRain · 05/09/2024 09:45

Thank you for sharing this, it’s made my day! The estate agent deserves a bonus for the write up.

itsnotabouthepasta · 05/09/2024 09:51

That is amazing! The EA description is utterly brilliant.

Not sure why people think it would put people off - its just paint and can be easily covered up. Its not like it needs a lot of expensive building work.

Quite frankly I love seeing a home that is loved and represents the owners' personality. The house we bought was 100% magnolia everywhere - we had to paint over it all, so the effort is the same whether your walls are magnolia/grey or coloured so I never get the argument that it should be painted white to make it easier for other people...

gabsdot · 05/09/2024 09:52

There is so much stuff, it's making me feel stressed. I doubt it's always that tidy.

SuncreamAndIceCream · 05/09/2024 09:54

The agent defo deserves a bonus for that description. Brilliant.

Sd352 · 05/09/2024 09:54

I don’t much about the location but could someone really lean into it, declutter and turn it into a Disney themed airbnb?

randomchap · 05/09/2024 09:55

The Disney lawyers aren't going to like that.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 05/09/2024 09:57

A round of applause for that estate agent!

Superb work.

GhibliCat · 05/09/2024 09:58

Why isn't the bathroom little.mermaid themed??

MonsteraMama · 05/09/2024 10:00

Oh I actually love the wall mural in the garden, that's very cool.

I live fairly near Rhyl, I'm so tempted to get a viewing so I can have a nose, but I'd feel mean wasting their time.
