Perfectly normal 3-bed semi, right?

Someone has put a lot of time into this, but AIBU to think it would sell better if they just... painted it all white?

Wallpaper

and @itsnotabouthepasta

on the ceiling?
on the dado rails?
On the skirting boards?
On the fireplace?
All of which are painted in the maleficent room.

And what if I don't want wallpaper? Which itself is already far more of a faff than painting.

besides which I didn't say it would be impossible to cover up. I said it wouldn't be as easy as painting over white/magnolia/similar.

Misthios · 05/09/2024 19:13

Usually I don't have problems seeing past people's personal stuff but in this case OMG there is just so MUCH of it! Every room is packed with STUFF. The beds are very oddly positioned and the third bedroom is just a toy shrine. They must be moving somewhere considerably larger.

Insertdeadcatsnamehere · 05/09/2024 19:16

It's really well done but also utterly horrific.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 05/09/2024 19:19

Lovely minimalist design there 😂

itsmylife7 · 05/09/2024 19:19

I'm really disappointed in the bathroom. It's very plain.

HurdyGurdy19 · 05/09/2024 19:33

How do you reach the toilet paper!! Or is the toilet paper next to a second loo in the bathroom? (Which, I agree, should absolutely have been a Little Mermaid or Finding Nemo themed room.)

TortillasAndSalsa · 05/09/2024 19:44

That's certainly a unique house 😂 love the fact the estate agents have joined in with the theme in the description of the house haha

Misthios · 05/09/2024 19:47

The thing about the white/neutral decor to sell.

It's about whether you can live with the previous owner's decor choices until you have the time/money/energy to redecorate to your own taste. Now you might not be a fan of magnolia or Egyptian cotton paint, but it's inoffensive and live-able with until you can put your own stamp on the place, bit by bit, as you go. Buy somewhere which is decorated top to bottom in Disney, or in neon pink, or any other strong decor theme and you are ruling out a large percentage of your pool of buyers. People are going to think that actually, they can't live with so much Disney, and are mentally totting up the costs and time needed to put it right. And it's not just the walls is it? It's the ceilings, and the garden, and everything else! It's a huge amount of work to get rid of the Disney.

As is always the case, it's only worh what someone will pay for it, and this decor (and all the clutter) is knocking a substantial amount off the price. If you don't want to sell then fine, but most people put their house on the market because they do need to sell and move.

Clingfilm · 05/09/2024 20:05

The retro room with the mallets mallet and poster of Keith Chegwin is quite cool to be fair, prob worth a few quid too...I get the impression an single older woman lives here. No kids at home despite all the toys.
I'd prob keep the garden wall mural, it's very well done!

Katemax82 · 05/09/2024 20:19

The thing that grabs me is 179000 for a 3 bed house..where I'm from it's double that

GreatMistakes · 05/09/2024 20:22

Yes fair play to the estate agent but come on, it's not as if they could pretend they didn't notice the decor and stay silent on the whopping Dumbo in the room!

Mickey79 · 05/09/2024 20:33

This has made my day and the description is brilliant. Wonder if the artist would come and turn my house into a marvel one.

ExAgent · 06/09/2024 14:29

The house has now featured on Sky News. I wonder how the owners feel about it - obviously great publicity but there are some really unpleasant comments on here and elsewhere.

We’ve just waved our magic wand and Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo we’ve found your happily ever after! 😂

There is always unpleasant comments on houses on here, generally the more expensive it is, the more it’s attacked, with words like grim and hideous often repeated.

Well, that’s an inexpensive house, and people are still saying it’s hideous. Are you suggesting people should just say ‘How lovely!’? I feel sure the vendors are used to people thinking it’s awful, and their EA will certainly have suggested neutralising it before a sale. They’ve decided otherwise. It’s not like they’re going to be surprised their taste isn’t everyone’s.

ComeWineWithMeAgain · 06/09/2024 17:21

Well they have clearly never watched an episode of house doctor!
Where is the tasteful magnolia paint and neutral sea grass carpet?
I bet the estate agent had a kitten when they walked through the door.

yellowroses78 · 06/09/2024 17:31

From the living room, I initially assumed it was a childminder's house and that was where the kids played.

I think maybe you quoted the wrong person. I was responding to someone as you can see if you read my post fully , I quoted them.

Wow, that’s going back 3 decades, not sure decorating dated is much better, 😂

BusyCaz · 06/09/2024 18:22

Are you insinuating that I may not be up to date with current interior decorating styles 🤣🤣🤣

Vitriolinsanity · 06/09/2024 20:08

The estate agent had a LOT of fun with that.
