Perfectly normal 3-bed semi, right?

Someone has put a lot of time into this, but AIBU to think it would sell better if they just... painted it all white?

All the very extravagant decorations and what is it that makes me laugh out loud?

The cuddly sloths on every other stair tread! 😂

Wowsers, I like Disney, but OMG!

Lindy2 · 05/09/2024 11:14

They've had a lot of fun with that.

I like it but I couldn't live with it - apart from that painted garden wall. I'd definitely keep that.

It's a bit hard to see what the rooms are actually like as the photos have definitely focused on the "features" 😂.

Mercurial123 · 05/09/2024 11:18

It's great if I was 5...

commonground · 05/09/2024 11:18

Ha the agent (and ChatGPT) had a Magical time with the further info ("ChatGpt - write a house description using Disney prompts!")

Disappointed with the bathroom though - there should have been a full-on Little Mermaid theme going on there.

I might buy it - for my 3 year old.

Cattery · 05/09/2024 11:19

Id feel like the walls were closing in plus the added clutter x

carrotcard · 05/09/2024 09:24

Why would you paint it white? The new owner might love it or they can paint it whatever colour they want. I think it's a bit rude to be all sneery about it. People can decorate their homes how they want.

Because that decor is a nightmare for 99.9% of the population?

Iwantascone · 05/09/2024 11:21

I think the bins on show in the front garden nearly appalled me more than the Disney decor.

I8toys · 05/09/2024 11:28

I bet its for the adult disney fan - no child allowed to play with the merch. I do admire dedication to a theme. The garage door and bins could have something on them - tad disappointed.

PandoraSox · 05/09/2024 11:29

The kitchen cupboard labelled "and the bear necessities" is brilliant!

Many mumsnetters will be reaching for the smelling salts!

gannett · 05/09/2024 11:35

Thing is while it's not for me it was obviously very much for the old owners, and it's an incredibly well-executed commitment to the theme. It's the dream house with dream decor for any Disney obsessive. And those are not that rare...

Or it'd make a great holiday Airbnb let for young families. (Don't know much about Rhyl as a place but I imagine there's a market for that given it's by the sea.)

OK, I don't know how I would feel about this particular house but, equally, I am not your target market for white wall either. I don't know many people in my circle who are.
Oh, it's a lovely white house... and another white house.... oh, and another one. Which one shall we go for? Remember that one 5 viewings ago which had an orange bedroom? Oh yes, that was a nice house, good layout, big garden yadi-ya.

I'm sorry, what?

None of this makes sense

There isn't a 'target market' for white walls, the whole point is they are designed to be a blank canvas so you can imagine YOUR OWN taste. As the pp pointed out, many people struggle to do this with any form of decoration/colour so the idea is to make it as easy as possible to do so.

Why on earth would the colour of the walls make it hard for you to remember the size of a garden? And if the white walls are so overwhelmingly confusing, it's not 1984 anymore, you can look on rightmove/zoopla to remember the layout and garden size if you really are choosing between that many possibilities.

And most importantly, wtf does your 'circle' have to do with anything? Why would you know or even care about what your friends think of the decor of a house they aren't even going to live in and you might redecorate before they even see? Are you only allowed to be friends with people who like the same colours as you?

"The new woman at yoga seems nice, shall we invite her out for a coffee after?'
"Better not, I heard she has a magnolia kitchen..."
"Seriously? Wow, good thing you told me. You're right of course, clearly not Our Sort at all...."

EmeraldDreams73 · 05/09/2024 11:41

Oh wow. The agent is a genius and deserves an award for leaning in!! A bomb in a pot of paint would be needed for me, though I'd probably feel a bit guilty after someone's put that much work in!

Tell you what, though, sod taking young kids to that viewing - unless you were keeping it all, imagine the howls of rage at the thought of painting over those characters!

I don't care what my friends think about my house. I am saying that many of my friends prefer to see a property with personality which makes it both easy to remember and easy to imagine as a lived-in space rather than a show home. So I feel as though "magnolia walls sell houses better" is a self-perpetuating myth.
When I was redecorating my first flat, people said to me all the time "but what if you want to sell it". Honestly, why would I even think about hypothetical future buyers when I live somewhere which is decorated to my taste? And if I ever buy "magnolia" property, I am going to paint over it anyway so it doesn't matter whether it is magnolia or Disney, does it?

MistressoftheDarkSide · 05/09/2024 11:44

I've actually just misted up looking at that - not because I'm a Disney fan at all, but because it's so clearly a loved home and demonstrates a kind of whimsical innocence not often displayed so boldly in the cynical world we live in. Can't really explain it as I'm a reasonably tough old bird but it's got me right in the feels (I think that's what the kids say?)

That aside - that's an absolute steal in terms of size and price. I'm on the South Ciast and that would be close to the half a million bracket here.

If I win the lottery I might re-locate and embrace my inner Disney princess.... and kudos to the agent for the description. I hope it was just pure creativity cos I'm so jaded about these AI things.

Redshoeblueshoe · 05/09/2024 12:07

I totally agree with all the pp's that said air b&B it. People pay a small fortune to stay in caravans round there. That would be much more fun

Definitely not being sneery! I already said it looks like a lot of work went into it! They're definitely dedicated to Disney!

And why would they paint it white? To sell it more easily? I think a good percentage of people would definitely be put off by the amount of painting it would need doing right from the get-go. Even the ceilings! That witch is not going to go quietly Grin

Sethera · 05/09/2024 12:13

What they maybe need is to post on a Disney Facebook page or similar - a fan might love that! I would be put off buying because I'd feel bad painting over someone's artwork, but I wouldn't want to live with something not to my taste.

and on google maps it’s looks to be only a ten minute walk to the beach

redtrain123 · 05/09/2024 12:14

Didn’t notice the cuddly sloths. Needs a bit of de-cluttering, but apart from that, wow! Impressive artwork. Beats boring grey!

I’d definitely keep the garden wall art, if nothing else. Someone seriously loves their Disney.

(Can’t quite believe the price either)

Kindofcrunchy · 05/09/2024 12:18

Gotta cheer yourself up somehow if you're living in Rhyl 😁

Rhyl is a complete Shithole unfortunately:(

Chimummy73 · 05/09/2024 12:25

Aside from Disney the main thing that jumped out at me was the poster of Keith Chegwin on the wall in the retro room! I’d love a nose in there!

MrsSkylerWhite · 05/09/2024 12:27

Oh my!
Wonder whether they paint murals as a business and use it as their showcase?

ExAgent · 05/09/2024 12:35

I fucking love it.

As an ex agent, I would take a bet the owner has written their own description, agent has just checked for misdescription/misrepresentation etc (I'd be a bit dubious about copyright issues Grin) and listed it.

I also agree it's likely to be bought as an Air B n B and targeted to a specific market. Can't decide whether I think that's a good thing or not? The magic will remain, but the neighbours may be seriously pissed off!

A good local agent should actually know a buyer who would love it (but also how to target the specific market).
