To think I don’t have too many jeans?

My partner and I are moving to a slightly bigger house but we want to not bring across what we don’t need.

I have a shelf of around 28 pairs of trousers, mostly jeans and a couple of trousers for the office. He said I should cut down by half as some I’ve never worn. I really don’t think what I have is excessive. Aibu?

Yes that’s way too many. I’ve got maybe 4 pairs

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 02/09/2024 12:35

I think there’s no such thing as the right number if you wear them. I would get rid of any that you don’t wear, especially if you’ve never worn them, as those are just taking up space.

You could probably sell the ones that you’ve never worn for a decent amount on Vinted or Depop or similar, or at least get something for them.

BlueEyedLeucy · 02/09/2024 12:36

That’s a lot! I have 4 pairs of jeans, 2 pairs of trousers, and maybe 3-4 pairs of gym leggings.

WhereIsMyLight · 02/09/2024 12:36

If half have never been worn, then you have at least 14 pairs too many.

Pootles34 · 02/09/2024 12:36

I wouldn't say you should go by number necessarily, but rather the fact you've never worn some is a bit mad. Could you make a bit of money on Vinted selling those off at least?

Sprig1 · 02/09/2024 12:37

Way too many. I think you need 6 max.

OldTinHat · 02/09/2024 12:38

How many pairs?!

I live in jeans. I have a blue pair and a black pair. One in the wash, one on me.

takealettermsjones · 02/09/2024 12:39

I've got one pair at the moment so it seems excessive to me, although I realise I'm at the other extreme 🤣

Izzymoon · 02/09/2024 12:39

28 pairs of trousers across all categories could be not too bad, leggings, linen summer trousers, patterned trousers, joggers, jeans, tailored work trousers etc but if it’s mostly jeans it seems insane.
Do you actually wear 20+ pairs of jeans? Are they really all different?

Ive got a lot of jeans but I do wear them. White, mid blue, light blue, slightly distressed light blue, wide leg cream, wide leg blue, black, cropped black for boots, floral etc and then different sizes as I’ve not long had a baby and I’m waiting to see how my body settles. But 10 pairs should really cover plenty of styles for different occasions.
Why do you have so many pairs you’ve never worn? Why do you feel the need to keep them?

budgiegirl · 02/09/2024 12:39

That is a lot, but I guess it depends if you wear them all or not. I think I have about 8 pairs of trousers in total !

Keep what you wear, sell or donate the ones that you haven't worn in the last year.

Kokomjolk · 02/09/2024 12:40

The correct number is three pairs - usually two is enough but you don't want to find yourself in a pickle when one is in the wash and one gets a hole or you spill something on them.

bobswill · 02/09/2024 12:40

I have 2, one pair of trackies and a pair of leggings to wear under dresses. If you haven't worn half, you have too many. Stick them on Vinted

DelurkingAJ · 02/09/2024 12:41

If I’d had any sense I would have bought three pairs each time I found trousers that fit and were flattering and might have that many pairs…assuming you’re not broke and they fit then I don’t see the problem, you’ll wear them soon enough.

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/09/2024 12:41

some I’ve never worn

Then you clearly have too many.

Justlurking101 · 02/09/2024 12:42

I have 3 pairs, 1 black and 1 blue denim Levi's and pair from M&S. get them sold on vinted.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/09/2024 12:43

I have 5 pairs and I'm not even a ' jean wearer' usually. You crack on OP, keep as many as you want!

doyoulikemyyams · 02/09/2024 12:43

You say "we want to not bring across what we don’t need."

Since you've not worn a bunch of your jeans, it's already clear you don't need those ones.

So what's the real criteria you're working with? Might be good to get on the same page about that 😉

LightDrizzle · 02/09/2024 12:44

Sell or donate any you haven’t worn in a year.

loropianalover · 02/09/2024 12:45

It’s excessive because you don’t wear them. Unless it’s a special piece you can definitely stand to shill some off on Vinted or Depop.

DillyDilly · 02/09/2024 12:45

If you’ve some that you’ve never worn, then you have too many. Why don’t you pass on the unworn ones, ones that you haven’t worn in a year, etc,

Really 28 pairs of jeans/trousers is too many.

TheActualAudacity · 02/09/2024 12:46

I’ve got about the same. A rough count takes me to 25 but I think I’ve probably got a few more too.

MidnightPatrol · 02/09/2024 12:47

I’ve been working out what to keep / recycle from my Jean collection OP.

I have many pairs of skinny jeans which I haven’t touched this summer.

I suspect I might wear them again in the winter a bit. But it’s not the fashion now.

If you haven’t worn them for a long while, it’s time to get rid IMO. Creates space for new things.

OnlyFrench · 02/09/2024 12:47

I don't know how you cope with so few 😂. My weight fluctuates, I wear different heel heights with different shapes so lengths have to vary, I've got a selection of blue, black, grey, white, beige and cream..... it soon adds up.

Commonsense22 · 02/09/2024 12:48

28 pairs?!
I have 1 pair of jeans, 2 pairs of trousers and several pairs of leggings for a total of less than 10.
28 seems excessive, yes but do you wear them all?

Izzymoon · 02/09/2024 12:49

bobswill · 02/09/2024 12:40

I have 2, one pair of trackies and a pair of leggings to wear under dresses. If you haven't worn half, you have too many. Stick them on Vinted

Do you just not get dressed and leave the house? Or you only wear dresses in which case it’s apples and oranges really.

One pair of joggers and one pair of leggings is obviously incredibly limiting.
