To think toilet sounds better than loo?

& dessert sounds nicer than pudding? I know some people look down on those who say toilet and dessert but I actually think they sound nicer. I think loo in particular is a horrible word.

The word toilet actually makes me cringe..loo every time for me!

PedantScorner · 25/08/2024 14:05

Why not say bog and sweet instead?

Toottooot · 25/08/2024 14:05

Prefer bog or lavvy myself.

Needmorelego · 25/08/2024 14:05

I like to say Lav. Or if feeling posh I say Lavatorium 😂

Parky04 · 25/08/2024 14:06

I always use bog.

Fifthtimelucky · 25/08/2024 14:08

I'm afraid I'm a loo and pudding person!

My mother only ever used "lavatory".

Bellatrixpure · 25/08/2024 14:08

Dessert over pudding. Pudding sounds stodgy to me.

NinaPersson · 25/08/2024 14:09

Boglet

user1471538275 · 25/08/2024 14:10

Latrines and scram

MrsMoastyToasty · 25/08/2024 14:10

we say cludgie. (DH is Scottish).

SnapBang · 25/08/2024 14:11

No. The word toilet is horrible. Dessert is worse to my ears. I always say loo and pudding.

Beth216 · 25/08/2024 14:11

'I'm just nipping to the loo' sounds better than toilet IMO, toilet makes me think of 5 year olds asking their teacher, I would yell 'I'm just in the toilet' to DH though. Would never use lav or lavatory but not for any particular reason. Dessert sounds posher than pudding IMO but I'd use both.

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 25/08/2024 14:11

Toilet and dessert are so non-u.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 25/08/2024 14:11

I don’t have a preference between loo and toilet, either are fine, but pudding is much much better than dessert.

Thepeopleversuswork · 25/08/2024 14:12

The word toilet makes me cringe to be honest. As do the words serviette and lounge.

Its my mum’s snobbery and I know it’s awful but these sorts of words sound so much like people trying too hard. Yes I know I am a snob.

bringincrazyback · 25/08/2024 14:13

My MIL thinks loo is as bad as toilet. Apparently we should all be saying lavatory! 😄

SnapBang · 25/08/2024 14:13

Fun fact - I used to know someone who had an actual phobia of the word phobia. His partner warned everyone he was medically diagnosed as having a real phobia of hearing the word. The first time I was told was as we were taking off our jackets on the way in to a dinner party at their home. I was terrified of saying it accidentally 😱

SnapBang · 25/08/2024 14:14

Sorry - that was supposed to say he had a phobia of the word pudding

Toottooot · 25/08/2024 14:14

Also like to use chunty.

theduchessofspork · 25/08/2024 14:15

Mummie says toilet is a much worse word than fuck

And in this case I agree. It’s just ugly word.

deademptyduck · 25/08/2024 14:16

If I'm asking where they are I tend to ask for directions to the ladies! Loo or toilet don't feel right. Pudding to me is a specific type of desert - usually the type served with custard! Desert covers everything!

Gedoverit · 25/08/2024 14:16

A whisper to other half, "nipping to the loo", or "need the ToileT"..... the t's are too noisy.

LlynTegid · 25/08/2024 14:18

I'd better never call it the john or the karzy then!!

SensibleSigma · 25/08/2024 14:18

Toilet is an uncomfortable word to say- the shapes in the mouth are contradictory. It’s hard work

Loo is nice and easy.

Needmorelego · 25/08/2024 14:05

I like to say Lav. Or if feeling posh I say Lavatorium 😂

I had a teacher who insisted on the word ‘lavatory’. I used to giggle every time I heard it said.
