To attempt to use a She-wee?

whosafraidofthefestivaltoilet · 20/08/2024 12:31

Off to Leeds festival, for work, and have heard the toilets are unusable for women. Has anyone attempted to use a she-wee or similar?

Is this a viable alternative to sitting down to wee? I am not really a hoverer, too old and fat.

Any suggestions and tips welcome!

There are reusable and disposable ones, like these

Why not read one of the 1,200 reviews?

Candlesandmatches · 20/08/2024 12:34

Shewees are good. I would also suggest you will need a tissue. Also period pants are good at soaking up any drips you may miss.

ButtSurgery · 20/08/2024 12:34

Practice in the shower... I failed miserably despite trying for almost a year between Download Festivals! Always ended up peeing on my legs or feet.

Catza · 20/08/2024 12:36

I had one on a trip to India (heard horrors about Indian train toilets which were 100% true!) I never managed to use it without an extension pipe, though, so no disposables for me and would recommend practicing at home a bit before the festival. Also not sure how reliable it would be after a few drinks... there is definitely a bit of a learning curve/gravity adjustment which requires full cognitive abilities.

Loveandhatred · 20/08/2024 12:37

Could you buy disposable toilet seat covers instead?

Sandwichgen · 20/08/2024 12:43

Can’t link on phone but TravelJohn are good for wees. Disposable, cap-able, contain a chemical that turns wee to gel. You apply them straight to the foof

How long did it take to become expert? what type ? disposable? If not disposable what do you do with it after you have used it? how do you clean, store, carry etc? Thanks for your input

I had a pipilotta and it's pretty good actually. You can more or less slot it in your trousers.

musicforthesoul · 20/08/2024 12:51

Had one for a different festival but didn't end up using it as they had female urinals (squat loos) which were more convenient.

I planned to just rinse with water/use a baby wipe to clean off while in the festival to avoid smells then worry about cleaning properly later. The one I have has got a case so the pissy bit is enclosed when not using!

If you get one of any type definitely practice at home first. You need to have the position right or you'll end up weeing over your legs.
This sounds a bit crass but i found you need to get the sticky out bit at the back right up between your butt cheeks, once i did that it clicked. Took a few goes to get the knack.

gamerchick · 20/08/2024 12:53

Definitely practise a lot first. They can be tricky, we never know which way were pointing at any wee I think.

Definitely wear something like period pants or disposable tena underwear or pads to soak up the wee so you don't get a wet crotch

Happy peeing.

NannyR · 20/08/2024 13:09

I have really tried to get to grips with a shewee as it would be incredibly useful when I'm out hiking, but I just can't get the knack of using it reliably. I have practiced loads in the shower and think I've got it sorted then use it in exactly the same way and end up with wee down my legs and wet trousers.
Kiddiwhizz do adult sized versions of their leak proof potty training bottle things, I'm thinking of getting one for camping. Or, if you want a cheaper version of the TravelJohn, you can buy commode pads on Amazon that turn liquid into solid gel.

longdistanceclaraclara · 20/08/2024 13:14

If you're working do you not get access to some of the less grotty toilets?

Borninabarn32 · 20/08/2024 13:15

Don't pee too fast it'll overflow.
I don't think disposables will be as good as a reusable one, just keep it in the case. Rinse it off when you can or wipe with a wetwipe. It doesn't go inside you so doesn't need to be sterile, it doesn't even really touch your vulva.

Wahine24 · 20/08/2024 13:17

There a definite skill to using one, one I've not mastered but you can get this kind of thing.
The pound shop also sells a version of it, which is the same as Amazon sell

Also on the politest way ..... What about pooing? How you planning that?!

😂😂😂 "...despite trying for almost a year..." 😂

That may be the funniest image I've ever had from a post on here - trying and failing to use a shewee every morning in the shower! Psyching yourself up like an athlete at the Olympics: "C'mon BS! Today's the day.... You got this!!"

(For clarity, I realise that's probably not what you meant!)

Wahine24 · 20/08/2024 13:23

Poundshop sells a version of the she wee I meant , my friend has one and thinks it's great

Airdustmoon · 20/08/2024 13:25

No advice OP - I’m a hoverer - but you’ve reminded me of when I worked at Reading Festival way back in the early 00s and I spent one shift on the women’s loos offering free promotional shee-wees to any brave pioneers who fancied skipping the long queue and coming to the female urinals to try them out!

Straightomyhead · 20/08/2024 13:28

Can I just say the the toilets in the arena (at Reading, not been to Leeds) really aren't that bad. So if you are in the arena all day you should be fine. They are the actual toilets in a caravan type.

The campsites aren't as nice but can normally find some nice ones.

If you are working, depending on what you are doing you may have access to staff or guest/press toilets.

Back to the shewee, there are female urinals which again need some practice at home first but quite easy depending on what you are wearing. (Jumpsuits are a big no-no!) and this area you can normally see the other women's bums as they are facing the urinals.

CheerfulBunny · 20/08/2024 13:29

I think it might depend on your physical make up, if that's the right term? I cannot get shewees to work, it all comes out - and all over me - despite efforts and practice. I must be a weird wee-er. All of my al fresco attempts end up down the back of my leg or in my shoe (the horror!) Oh god, I've had some shockers over the years..

Cherryana · 20/08/2024 13:31

You have to hold it on tight both near the front and back so there is a good seal on it.

Karatema · 20/08/2024 13:32

Yes, I've used and took it to a festival but didn't need because my friend had booked "the posh loos" and they were brilliant, very clean. Would definitely book "the posh loos" again. Worth every penny.
