To attempt to use a She-wee?

whosafraidofthefestivaltoilet · 20/08/2024 12:31

Off to Leeds festival, for work, and have heard the toilets are unusable for women. Has anyone attempted to use a she-wee or similar?

Is this a viable alternative to sitting down to wee? I am not really a hoverer, too old and fat.

Any suggestions and tips welcome!

There are reusable and disposable ones, like these

SheWees are not easy to use, the reusable ones come jn a plastic container, just pour some water down it to clean it. BUT there is an art to using one and I've never successfully managed so it just lives in my camping box.

Are you sharing a tent? If not I'd get a camping toilet chair, IE a chair with a hole in it that you attach a bag to and fill the bottom with body spill granules or cat litter, and hope you only need to urinate. Then just put it into the main rubbish bins.

Makingchocolatecake · 20/08/2024 13:37

They work but I found it quite leaky. I would wear a long skirt and use a cup instead.

whosafraidofthefestivaltoilet · 20/08/2024 12:43

How long did it take to become expert? what type ? disposable? If not disposable what do you do with it after you have used it? how do you clean, store, carry etc? Thanks for your input

For cleaning- use hand gel, anti bac wipes or this https://www.superdrug.com/baby/baby-feeding/baby-bottles/baby-sterilisers/vital-baby-aquaint-sanitising-water-50ml/p/712645

Lakeyloo · 20/08/2024 13:41

I Personally can't get on with them having tried at home. I think they're ok for night time in the tent to save traipsing about in the dark, but where will you go to use it while you're out and about during the day ?
We do festivals every year and the toilets are really not as bad as people make out. A lot of them are now suction toilets like on an aeroplane, but they can stink. A travel pack of tissues with olbas oil tipped into it and then resealed (and kept in a ziplock bag or you will just trail olbas oil smell with you everywhere you go) is my go to. One held over the nose works a treat.!

Lakeyloo · 20/08/2024 13:58

Karatema · 20/08/2024 13:32

Yes, I've used and took it to a festival but didn't need because my friend had booked "the posh loos" and they were brilliant, very clean. Would definitely book "the posh loos" again. Worth every penny.

Couldn't agree more... best £60 or so i ever spend at a festival (When nature calls at I.O.W Festival 👌) They don't have them at every festival unfortunately though.@whosafraidofthefestivaltoilet , might be worth seeing if they are at Leeds this year ? (or similar) Proper porcelain toilets, hot running water, cleaned between every use. Priceless !

bigyellowduster · 20/08/2024 14:00

I found whenever I tried to use one my bladder closed shut! Kind of solved the immediate problem but not really a long term solution!

Second trying them in the shower.

AngelinaFibres · 20/08/2024 14:18

If you are wearing tunic type tops that cover your bum or dresses then adult nappies are brilliant. My dad had to wear them at end of life so that wasn't fun but a friend who runs a farmers market food stall swears by them. She trades alone and cannot leave her stall unattended and these have been a life saver . She doesn't poo in then obviously but they are no different to period pants, tena lady etc before people have a fit about it.

Mollyrooba · 20/08/2024 14:45

Practiced with shewee as advised at home and even with getting positioning right it's not as easy as it seems to wee stood up. Once using outside my bladder just went nope despite being busting, luckily there were some bushes further along the walk to go squat behind. You really need decent speed flow to help shoot it away from your body or maybe stand in an extreme A pose if not.

Dilbertian · 20/08/2024 15:01

Never mastered the Shewee, despite endless practicing in the shower. But I got the hang of the Pstyle really quickly and take one with me whenever I go countryside walking, camping, or anywhere that the loos might be dodgy.

Poundshop sells a version of the she wee I meant , my friend has one and thinks it's great

Do you mean Poundland?

I'm going camping at the weekend and this kind of thing would save the inevitable trip to the bogs in the middle of the night.

ApricotHaze · 20/08/2024 16:03

I used a reusable one about 15 years ago at Glastonbury - saved waiting in huge queues for the portaloos. Used one of the reusable ones which had its own box to store it in

I have this one, we carry it in our campervan. It's rubber and flexible so you can fit it around your bits to make a good seal. Never leaks. We carry a metal drinks flask (from Tesco) that we can use with it to save filling up the loo too quickly. It's opaque, so can take it into a public loo to empty. Wouldn't be without it. I just use it standing up (like a bloke! 🤣)

Yeah, it's a bit like using a bedpan in hospital. It's hard work getting your muscles to relax. And then you have to let it dribble out, you can't do a "whoosh".

I'd advise anyone to get an extension tube - this is what's needed to take the wee beyond your trousers.

DollopOfFun · 20/08/2024 16:33

I'm the opposite of PP, I find it easier to use if I don't press it too firmly to my body.

Proficient now though, reckon I could write my name in the snow Grin

GreenGrowtheRushesOoooh · 20/08/2024 17:24

Where are you going to use one?
That makes all the difference.

If you are going to use one behind a bush , just 'wild wee'. I do that on country walks but make sure you pull your knickers out of the direction of the flow.

If it's in a loo (but not sitting on the seat) I'd just carry a plastic container like a drinks bottle with a wide opening at the top and wee in that then pour it in the loo.

I have practised using a Travel John in the car and it was impossible to wee in it sitting down (answers on a p card please for any tips.)

My criticism is that the bit you put next to your body is not very big (and I think my under carriage is average.)

Wahine24 · 20/08/2024 17:55

@MagpiePi Yes , she bought it with the camping bits and bobs said they sell them most years and they sell really quicky (apologies in delayed response I've been out with no reception)

Portfun24 · 20/08/2024 18:01

Aw me and my sister used them years ago at t in the park one year when they had a women's urinals and were handing them out. I managed but she peed all over herself and down her legs and had to go buy new trousers at the charity stall. She was saying "I'm doing it, I'm doing it" and the woman beside her was saying "no, no youre not, it's running down your legs" 🤣

chaosmaker · 20/08/2024 18:19

@whosafraidofthefestivaltoilet I think it depends on your labia too. Personally find them difficult to use. If you are going that route then practice first as others have suggested.

PantsAcademy · 20/08/2024 18:47

I didn't like the look of the she wee as it is rigid. Bought one of these (or very similar) for hikes and it's been brilliant. I'm the clumsiest, most uncoordinated individual ever but after a few practice runs I had it down to a fine art.

justaweethought · 20/08/2024 18:55

(actually not namechanged for this despite the appropriate username...) Am I just peculiar(ly lucky?) or does anyone else not understand what problem these are solving? If I need to wee in an unusual place the problem I have is ensuring nobody's going to come along and see me and that's not something the shewee will help with... If I'm confident of that, I can squat and send the stream roughly where I need it to go. Is that harder for other people (perhaps I'm blessed with strong thighs and/or unconfusing labial anatomy?)? Or have shewee users just never tried not using one? Or what?

Thursdaygirl · 20/08/2024 18:59

This sounds a bit crass but i found you need to get the sticky out bit at the back right up between your butt cheeks, once i did that it clicked. Took a few goes to get the knack.

This. The sticky out bit needs to be a lot further back than you expect. Definitely practice in the shower

5foot5 · 20/08/2024 19:01

I used to have one. I practised a few times naked in the bathroom and it seemed OK. However the first time I tried it fully clothed, thankfully still in the privacy of my own bathroom, it was not a success. Shall we just say I needed a complete change of clothes.

I never did get the hang of it I am afraid

Pixiesfan · 20/08/2024 21:28

@Airdustmoon - was that the year Pulp headlined?? You might have offered one to me - I wasn't brave enough to try Grin

Pieceofpurplesky · 20/08/2024 21:43

I couldn't use mine to save my life! It's definitely not a one size fits all contraption!

There are usually 'special' toilets for a small fee - if you are working get them to pay! At the V Festival years ago, if you had a virgin phone you got access to a special area. I think there is a field at Leeds that has transport to it with special facilities?
