To attempt to use a She-wee?

whosafraidofthefestivaltoilet · 20/08/2024 12:31

Off to Leeds festival, for work, and have heard the toilets are unusable for women. Has anyone attempted to use a she-wee or similar?

Is this a viable alternative to sitting down to wee? I am not really a hoverer, too old and fat.

Any suggestions and tips welcome!

There are reusable and disposable ones, like these

I used a Shewee on holiday in a country with a lot of open land and where roadside bushes were sparse and full of thorns – it was brilliant. I got the hang of it quickly - you need to press it against yourself quite firmly then wee as normal. As ppl here says, practise at home first, including fully clothed into the toilet.
I don't know what our guide thought about seeing me standing to pee alongside my husband…

Looblou72 · 21/08/2024 11:17

I take one when hiking with my dog and most times it's great - first few times I peed down my legs and wet my trouser legs.... but overall a great invention! Got the hang of it now. Dogs face when I used it first time was a picture, I'm like go away, I need to concentrate 😂

Your reading comprehension needs work. The other poster asked why anyone would use a SheWee instead of just squatting. I replied to explain why squatting wouldn’t actually work.

I’m not sure how you get from “this is why squatting on the toilet seat wouldn’t work” to “everyone should squat on the toilet seat”

They mean squatting in front of the toilet and hovering over it, not climbing on it

NotTheMrMenAgain · 21/08/2024 11:27

I got a cheap, non-branded version from the internet for a festival with camping (shudder). It’s great, didn’t take any practice really. Amazing to be able to pee standing up. Also great for when you need a pee in the middle of the night and it’s pouring with rain - take a large, empty bottle and you’ve no probs. Sounds gross, but for me camping is akin to a survival situation and anything goes (I’d never survive in the wild).

Tuskanini · 21/08/2024 11:29

Oh, for goodness' sake! Get one and try. You don't need our permission. If a bit of wee goes where it shouldn't, nobody dies!

so how does this work?

Do you unzip the fly on your trousers and poke the spout out? How do you get the she wee into your knickers? Do you put the spout out of the knicker leg?

I have tried in the bathroom and it was a disaster.

I once experimented in the car (sitting in the front seat ) and moving my bum right to the front edge then weeing - and it went all over not down the spout of the she wee.

What if someone is wearing leggings for walking- they'd need to drop them.

were you wearing a skirt/ dress or trousers?

How does it work?

I've got one and the spout just isn't long enough to reach from me, through the zip of trousers and onto the ground.

I also have a Travel John which is like a she wee with a bag attached but the bag has to go down your trouser leg (or under a skirt.)

No advice OP - I’m a hoverer - but you’ve reminded me of when I worked at Reading Festival way back in the early 00s and I spent one shift on the women’s loos offering free promotional shee-wees to any brave pioneers who fancied skipping the long queue and coming to the female urinals to try them out!

I was one of those brave pioneers!

The main thing to remember is that unlike for men, you can't wee against gravity. I found the best way to never pee down your legs is to stick your bum out and lock your knees, and don't try to aim too far in front of you, she-wee should be at a 45 degree angle.

I do have to plan ahead and make sure I'm not wearing leggings, something with a zip is better, but if you're in a really quiet place leggings are fine.

I put the Shewee in through side of knickers poking out of zip, takes a bit of rummaging, hold it tight against you, further back than you think is the key for me, then stick your body forward - think of a toddler taking a wee 😀so you don't wee on your feet!

Then a quick shake so there's none left and all done!

JaneyMayJaneyMay · 21/08/2024 13:03

I’d really recommend the kiddiwhizz whizzers - a bit bigger than a sheewee as they have a pot attached but fold down really small and are leakproof, you can even use them in your tent!

StMarieforme · 21/08/2024 14:05

Honestly an ordinary funnel is easier. I keep an empty 5ltr water bottle in my tent and use a funnel. My own personal toilet at 3am!

StMarieforme · 21/08/2024 14:06

Are you working and in the staff campsite? As you should have proper portaloos if so. If you're going as a punter they are truly rank though.

GreenGrowtheRushesOoooh · 21/08/2024 11:04

I've heard other women say this but do you find you can relax and actually 'let go'?

@GreenGrowtheRushesOoooh I would say have a go by practising in the privacy of your own shower to see how much noise/whoosh is involved by "letting . yourself go" and see how you can regulate that.

Try drinking a pint of water (568ml) first then top up with another half pint.

Looks like 700-750 ml is the typical volume of a wee.

Then drink another half pint of water and wait to go.

I think the Tena and period pants would muffle the sound of a controlled pee with a layer of clothing on top.

But doing an uncontrolled "horse piss" is likely to attract attention IYSWIM!
😂

My full bladder holds far less. Hats off to anyone who can hold huge volumes. Thanks for the tips.

chaosmaker · 24/08/2024 19:02

How do you wipe afterwards?

Rubyupbeat · 24/08/2024 20:13

I use travel Jane's, easier to get all the wee in the bag, you dispose of them afterwards. They are a bit expensive, but well worth the money.

LuminousCrystalFox · 24/08/2024 20:23

Those of you weeing at festivals, where are you doing it if not in the loos? Do you have to be public to everyone while you whip out your shewee?

chaosmaker · 24/08/2024 20:59

Still want to know how you wipe or if you just walk around smelling a little bit pissy? Genuine question!

papadontpreach2me · 24/08/2024 21:12

I have one but doesn't work well with leggings

Bought myself one of these for camping trip, and DS8 has delighted in telling people that "mummy's bought a plastic penis!" Confused
