Where is Keir Starmer?

Does anyone else find it weird Keir Starmer isn't more visible this week? He hasn't held a press conference in days, wasn't obviously present at No. 10 after the Cobra meeting and won't recall parliament. Surely he can't have actually gone on his holiday when the UK is in meltdown?

Eh? He chaired the Cobra meeting and he's been discussing it on the news. He's made announcements regularly since this all kicked off!

Why recall parliament? There's no need. There are no new laws that need passing to deal with this, nothing for MPs to do in the chamber. It'd be pointless.

Where is he? Presumably busy meeting with police and trying to keep on top of this. etc. He's not a showman.

I don't care what he sounds like as long as he gets the job done. Dull and effective is fine. It's a nice change.

I'm all for calm, rational intelligence, personally. We had the superficial stuff with Johnson, and look where that got us.

He's done 2 press conferences that I've seen, visited Southport twice, chaired a cobra meeting and has been quite vocal about how the rioters will face the full extent of the law. He's not gone on holiday at all.

You are aware Kier Starmer doesn't actually run the country? It's run by civil servants. He's just a face for the machine. It's all done by faceless people behind the scenes you won't even know the names of.

What did you want, dramatic announcements outside Downing Street, preferably in the rain?

Everything is in place to deal with this. No theatrics needed.

I mean I am all for holding politicians to account but he held a call with all chief constables last week, has been working with the civil service to look at options for expediting charging and prosecuting the various cases, done a speech and taken press questions after it, held a Cobra meeting and made a statement as well as visiting Southport.

I'm not sure Boris Johnson bumbling through things was much better.

He was chief prosecutor, I expect he is well versed it being void of emotion when dealing with things. (Not said in a negative way)

I think he does need to reappear, he could calm this all down by equally commenting on non white riots. He hasn't and has fed into the narrative of some demographics being treated differently to others.

Just to stop calls of racist which are banded around everywhere - I'm mixed race, feeling very unsettled and eager to see this settled in a fair and demographic way rather than pretending there are no valid points of concern being raised in the UK.

No need to sound so sneery about us hard working Civil Servants. I can guarantee we all have a face.

He was in Southport and Liverpool visiting families, hospital staff etc. again on Friday, made a press announcement over the weekend, and convened a COBRA meeting today….

Hes done multiple conferences and chaired a cobra meeting - he's doing his job - I don't need to see him with bells and whistles when he's doing his job!!

Why would parliament be recalled? Law and order doesn’t need parliament to be in session, no new legislation needs to be reviewed or passed.
He’s been doing press interviews, chaired a cobra meeting … what are you expecting, a new slide press conference to take over all channels at 5pm every day because a very small minority of people are violently protesting?
Sometimes it’s really difficult to listen to these sorts of posts complaining about things when so many of the posters have very strong opinions but are actually incredibly uninformed about the topic.
