To think Tattle Life gossiping is necessary?

bottomsup12 · 25/07/2024 08:29

Immediately thoughts are that it's not nice to gossip and everyone should "be kind". However, in this day and age of social media influencers etc, everyone acknowledges that people show the best bits of their life, all the ups and rarely the downsides.

We are also told to stop comparing to others on this basis as we never know what's going on behind someone's glamorous life.

Therefore, I put it to you MNers, that the b*tchiness that occurs on Tattle Life (and is IS very much so) is a necessary antidote to the fake lives we can't help comparing ourselves to.

Instead of sitting here wondering how everyone else manages to have such a great time while you're broke hardly able to pay your bills, it's reassuring to see other people cutting through the crap and pointing out the other parts of their life.

I'd argue it's a necessary by product of social media antics and the naturally occurring ying to the social media glamorous yang!

What are your thoughts?

Wasn't it one of the Mods on Tattle who exposed Mother of Daughters for using sock puppets on Tattle? The fall out from that debacle made headlines around the world!

What does this mean?

gamerchick · 25/07/2024 11:54

I don't really give a toss about influencers and tattle, by all accounts is a cesspit for really strange people with less of a life than other cesspits like reddit.

Allmarbleslost · 25/07/2024 11:55

It's an awful place full of utterly vile people.

You know people actively choose and pursue fame though right?
It’s certainly not compulsory.

Yeah, let's use the 'you don't have to do it' line as an excuse to viciously attack other women and keep them in their boxes (and the vast majority of targets are women)

Beezknees · 25/07/2024 09:23

Also why does one need to pick apart aspects of someone else's life to make themselves feel better?

No idea…yet every other day on here people are begging for a tattle code because they have gossip to share!🤷‍♀️

Clemmie Hooper was a blogger who went by the name 'Mother of Daughters'. She made loads of fake accounts on tattle slagging herself off, as well as being racist about other influencers amongst other things but was caught out. There are a lot of articles about her with more information but that's a basic summary

MN can be nasty. It’s usually to its members though. Usually.

I've been shocked at times at the baying mob.

You were talking about people being famous in general? Not just female celebrities and I was, quite clearly, responding to that.

Like MN isn't the same? I once made the mistake of asking for some app recommendations for my DD in preparation for a bloody long flight and basically had my parenting picked apart because clearly colouring, stickers, snacks hadn't crossed my mind (they had and I'd already bought them)

Itsmeamandaberry · 25/07/2024 12:14

That site is incredibly toxic and left me feeling awful after reading it. The TikTok forum, in particular, is filled with nothing but bullying. While I'm not one to preach about #bekind, I do believe that people shouldn't act so maliciously. There are individuals, likely women, who go out of their way to cancel brand deals, tally up people's take-out orders, and generally spew hateful comments about others whom they could simply block. I just don't understand it.

Were you called a slapper, were your looks picked apart? Did they call your child ugly? Were you allowed to defend yourself on the same thread?

Not the same at all, is it?

Well, in fairness when people post pictures on here they are often ripped apart. Especially the "how old do you think I look" posts.

Lots of TikTok influencers respond to tattle threads in their videos too.

I think we’ve all been there. We once had a five hour car journey and I had some idiot whining on about how sad it was I wasn’t just going to talk to my then two year old about the cows in the fields 😂

But the raison d’etre of MN isn’t to tear into others, and posts will be deleted if they go too far.

MartyFunkhouser · 25/07/2024 09:08

Some posters on Tattle are really nasty. I’m all for gossip about celebs, and can’t be doing with the sanctimony that seems to proliferate on MN these days, but Tattle can go too far. I hope Kat Farmer doesn’t read it 😮

She’s far too busy shagging other women’s husbands and threatening their kids to waste time on Tattle.

Edingril · 25/07/2024 12:28

How many poster's on here can't help but take peoples dramas as their own and gossip like there is no tomorrow?

PomPomSugar · 25/07/2024 12:35

I haven't read this full thread but I must say that I know three women IRL that have Tattle threads. All of these women are lovely, kind, clever, generous etc and the things that are said about them can be so disgusting.

One of them imparticular has had police sent to her house, take aways sent to her house, fake phone calls, brands contacted to tell them not to work with her, doxxed, RSPCA called. It just goes on and on.

The other replaced another (much loved) persons role in the public eye as they retired and you would have thought she had murdered them the way tattle were talking!

Much of this is openly discussed on Tattle. It is so wrong. It amazes me how people can dedicate so much of their time to bringing down someone who has done nothing than have a successful career.

FOJN · 25/07/2024 12:40

If you need an antidote to the fakery of social media then this would be a better place to start than tattle. She's up to part 8, the other videos can be found on YouTube. And yes I'm aware the person who runs the channel is also an influencer!

My niece is an influencer. It makes her a 6 figure income, but I see first hand the complete and utter fakery of it all. Despite this, I’d hate to find myself on Tattle reading nasty comments on her appearance.

She’s quite well known, gets recognised when we’re out but so far, has dodged any nastiness.

There's a massive difference even if you post a picture here - you do it anonymously, you do it out of your own voltion and can engage with the people who bring you down (why you'd want to do that to yourself is another issue but hey ...)

You won't be told you're a whore, your kids should be taken into custody, your husband is obviously gay and everyone hates you and have no right of reply

I recently saw a thread here where someone was criticised for using the race card to get their job, where they worked and their name was in the thread. I reported it and it remained up.

Massive whataboutery - I am definitely not defending Mumsnet which is pretty violent many ways but generally it’s policed and people don’t identify themselves . saying Mum’snet is bad so therefore Tattle is okay doesn’t make any of it right.

KittyWindbag · 25/07/2024 13:14

I think while there may be justifiable reasons for wanting to call out certain people for bullshit, from what I’ve seen many of the posters on tattle are absolutely unhealthily obsessed with their targets and there’s an almost masturbatory fury that they seem to revel in. Jack monroe for example. She’s a bit annoying and there are some inconsistencies in her self-told ‘story’ but those people on her sub have hundreds and hundreds of pages analysing every inch of her life picking her to pieces. She’s clearly got severe mental health issues and it is a matter of concern that they feel enabled to hound her regardless of consequences.

Caroline flack used to have disgusting things written about her on there, her pages were all deleted after she killed herself. So the website creators KNEW it was unacceptable. Yet they allow it to continue for countless others. Until the next person takes their life?

HolyGround13 · 25/07/2024 13:28

Reading these comments, it seems like tattle is to 21st century people what public hangings were to 15th century people.

Some are justifying it by saying it helps “take down” influencers, but I think this is missing the point others are making. We shouldn’t have influencers. There shouldn’t be all this online noise and all this investments into the lives of strangers. Crimes should be dealt with by the police. You don’t have a moral imperative to bitch about or dox or “report” stuff on a gossip website. You do it for entertainment.

Goodadvice1980 · 25/07/2024 13:32

I use Tattle, same as here on MN there are good and not so good posters 🤷‍♀️ Tattle is good for exposing a lot of influenza hypocrisy and unsavoury social media behaviour.
