What wonderful news!
I bet they can hardly believe it. Nor can I but I am thrilled-unlike them.

Did you take a break from the Daily Mail comments section today?

OlgaBracley · 18/07/2024 20:04

Are you implying that anyone who thinks the sentence is wrong is a Daily Mail reader?
Does it follow that you think all Daily Mail readers are thick?

Are you a looney who likes to lie down in the road yelling, 'The Planet is Burning'?

What a shame for you to show your arse in this way. Still, we will always have the gullible amongst it. It was ever thus and will ever be.

Good. They cost the news met £1.1m. Think how many crimes could have been worked on and solved. They cost the economy millions. Think of every life they negatively impacted...the people missing hospital appointments they waited.month for, the children missing exams.

For what...a protest on a subject that everyone agrees on.

I'd like to know their backgrounds...I'm betting on spoilt middle class twats.

Thought so. Thanks for confirming.

FYI there is a similar post just a few down if you want to join that too?

What does ‘show your arse’ mean here? Is it a regional thing?

FinalCeleryScheme · 18/07/2024 20:09

I wouldn’t crow about it, but I am pleased that the criminal law has finally been applied to protestors whose purpose is to create mayhem and cause loss to others. And applied in a way that should dissuade their mates.

Oh dear another net zero loon who thinks stopping people from getting to work will save the planet.
No doubt you also want to carpet our prime farmland with non recyclable Chinese manufactured solar panels to reduce our food security as well

WildLemur · 18/07/2024 20:24

Having seen their reactions to Canada's clamp down on the "Freedom Convoy", I can only assume that many right wingers will be absolutely furious at this.

Perfect28 · 18/07/2024 20:31

So just to be clear, everyone here hating on these activists is fine with the trajectory of our climate and planet? If not, do you actually have anything worthwhile to add? A suggestion of alternative action?

....

It will be a long wait.

HowIrresponsible · 18/07/2024 20:33

Please tell me pink haired Phoebe, who described herself as a scared little kid at the age of 21 was among the jailed.

If the UK sank into the sea the world's carbon emissions wouldn't change

It's China they need to protest in but strangely for some reason they're not up for that.

FinalCeleryScheme · 18/07/2024 20:35

Is this the same group that sprayed Taylor Swift’s jet with orange paint, only to discover that they’d got the wrong one?

Top work eco-loons!

Perfect28 · 18/07/2024 20:38

@HowIrresponsible so you believe we shouldn't act to make the most responsible choices we can because 'someone else will keep polluting anyway'.

?

Yeah because causing chaos for the general public and defacing priceless artwork has really solved the climate crisis.

As another poster pointed out, China is where the problem is but for some reason you don't seem keen to go there and protest. I wonder why that could be? I mean if you are truly worried about the planet you'd do a bit more than cause traffic jams and throw tomato soup around.

Perfect28 · 18/07/2024 20:47

@spuddy4 a) I'm not part of either activist group so I have no idea why you keep saying 'you'. b) the suggestion one should simply fly to china and start a protest is a gross oversimplification of the situation. Of course other countries need to change, the whole world needs to change. The best possible way to make that change is to enact it exactly where you are, if enough people do that well... c) why are you not angry that these people feel it necessary to take these actions?

robovacsareepic · 18/07/2024 20:49

Whatever you think about just stop oil those prison sentences are insane. 4 years for 4 of the and 5 for Hallam - for non violent protestors? It's crackers, totally wrong.

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/07/2024 20:50

There's an almost silent thread on FWR right now about a man so got 4 years for beating his partner unconscious while their children watched.

Do I think talking about stopping traffic warrants more? Fuck no. But no one appears to care.

You have statistical evidence of China being the main culprit?

Zanatdy · 18/07/2024 20:51

Good, I remember one person was trying to get to a dying relative but was stuck due to these idiots.

What have you done? Do you have kids, a car, a TV?

I don't. I actually don't.

How have you acted in the face of a climate crisis?

Cangar · 18/07/2024 20:52

These sentences are pretty nuts. Not sure it’s right that non violent protesters are jailed for longer than that guy who beat his girlfriend unconscious in front of her children.

i think calling this type of protest “non violent” isn’t really accurate. People have died as a result of the actions of Just Stop Oil.
