Filthy Supermarket toilets

I can’t be the only person who finds supermarket toilets absolutely disgusting. Used some in a Sainsburys today, filthy beyond belief, stank of god knows what and the hand soap dispenser seemed to be filled with water, had those awful toilet paper dispensers you have to pinch out of instead of a normal roll.

Why are they all like this? Always warm/ stuffy too.

The mens are even worse according to DP. Disabled/ family toilets are always filthy too no matter which store you go to. I can let it slide if it’s a busy city store but when you’re in an allegedly middle class area and the cafe is outside the loo I just don’t get it.

Tesco - horrific
Sainsburys - horrific
Asda - wouldn’t even dream of trying
Morrisons - horrific
M&S - abysmal if it’s an older store

I was in a Morrisons in the Isle of Wight the other week and it was sparkling.
Our local Tesco and Waitrose both have vile toilets.

HelpMePlan1 · 29/06/2024 21:34

Why wouldn't you even dream of trying ASDA's?

Completely misses the point of thread

GardenGnomad · 29/06/2024 21:35

YANBU almost always they are absolutely disgusting!

MereDintofPandiculation · 29/06/2024 21:35

Our local Morrisons' toilets are always sparkling.

AlphabetBird · 29/06/2024 21:36

Sainsbury’s is a million times worse than Asda in most regards, including toilets

OhHelloMiss · 29/06/2024 21:36

Who makes them this way? The customers?

GatherYePearls · 29/06/2024 21:36

They're usually grim. Bear in mind any member of the public can go and use them - they must be incredibly hard to keep clean.

DontCallMeKidDontCallMeBaby · 29/06/2024 21:37

Our Asda’s toilets are (the small number of times I’ve used them) always clean. I’ve only used the baby change in the local Sainsbury’s, but that’s always been fine too.

dahliadraws · 29/06/2024 21:39

yanbu - and as it’s mainly women, children and disabled people who need them.

ive had to use them a bit lately and they’ve been so abhorrent it’s actually distressing

its an accessibility issue

Jaydafran · 29/06/2024 21:41

They are as disgusting as the people using them

Hyperions · 29/06/2024 21:41

Asda are better than my local Morrisons and Waitrose. Homebase and BandQ are like one of the circles of hell.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 29/06/2024 21:45

Been to various supermarket toilets and they've never been THAT grim

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 29/06/2024 21:45

It's the people who use them that make them that way. How hard is it to use the loo and wash your hands without leaving a trail of destruction behind??

Ilikesweets · 29/06/2024 21:48

Agree re it's the people using them. Our local supermarket has closed the loos because of antisocial behaviour. Tbh, while I'm disappointed, I don't think their staff should have to clean disgusting loos. We all lose (no pun intended) out, but why are people being so vile when using the loo?

Maybe they know theres a queue so dont hang around to scrape skidders off, plus who would want to!!

Caffeineislife · 29/06/2024 21:52

Ours are the same, bar Asda whose toilets have been out of order for over a month with the disabled toilet locked. Morrisons seems to be the territory of the hoverers and shit and period blood sprayers. Sainsbury's are equally gross. M&S varies according to the time of day. I have no idea how some people think you use a toilet. As a pregnant woman with a newly toilet trained toddler we are regular toilet users. Although our public toilets have always been clean, well stocked and free or the hoverers and sprayers. Maybe the public toilets are too gross for them?

Jaydafran · 29/06/2024 21:53

Some cultures stand on the rim, maybe its that?

They should clean up after themselves and their children then??

Just a thought!

mrstumble36 · 29/06/2024 21:56

Our local Asda is the worst by far. Absolutely stink every single time. My worst experience was the Tesco in a fairly well to do market town, piss all over the floor. The main loos were out of order so everyone was using the disabled one. Piss all over the floor. Had my toddler with me and was terrified of her touching anything.
I can only assume they must be very well used and not cleaned enough.

Clean with what? You dont get brushes and even if you did would you pick up a public one?!

bananaphon · 29/06/2024 21:56

Had to take my DS to my local Tesco ones today. They were disgusting.

Butteredtoast55 · 29/06/2024 21:56

To be honest they're all horrible, likewise service stations. Our big M and S was one of the worst but it's having a massive refurbishment

lovemycbf · 29/06/2024 21:57

Having just done a road trip up north and having to use the service station toilets my god the supermarket ones in comparison are pristine!
I've never encountered smells quite like it and one in particular the whole cubicle floor was awash with stinking urine I seriously just walked straight back out!

OhHelloMiss · 29/06/2024 21:57

Clean the seat with available toilet roll??

And the floor or wherever! It's not hard!

RedHelenB · 29/06/2024 21:58

Supermarket toilets where I live are all regularly checked and are fine. Where do you live OP?
