Filthy Supermarket toilets

I can’t be the only person who finds supermarket toilets absolutely disgusting. Used some in a Sainsburys today, filthy beyond belief, stank of god knows what and the hand soap dispenser seemed to be filled with water, had those awful toilet paper dispensers you have to pinch out of instead of a normal roll.

Why are they all like this? Always warm/ stuffy too.

The mens are even worse according to DP. Disabled/ family toilets are always filthy too no matter which store you go to. I can let it slide if it’s a busy city store but when you’re in an allegedly middle class area and the cafe is outside the loo I just don’t get it.

Tesco - horrific
Sainsburys - horrific
Asda - wouldn’t even dream of trying
Morrisons - horrific
M&S - abysmal if it’s an older store

What about the pan?

Some cultures stand on the rim, maybe its that?

Judging by the state of some of our supermarket toilets I think some people think you need to spin round and perform various acrobatics whilst going to the toilet.

AmyandPhilipfan · 29/06/2024 22:00

Our local Tesco ones are awful. Three cubicles in the women's. One had no toilet seat for about 6 months. Usually two out of three will have no loo roll. And at least one will have a totally soaking floor.

dayswithaY · 29/06/2024 22:00

It’s because they are used by everyone (not just supermarket customers). They have effectively replaced public toilets.

What about the pan?

Nobody has mentioned' the pan'

It's reasonable to expect some mess but I've seen brushes available in some toilets actually.

Mum2jenny · 29/06/2024 22:01

Never had a problem with any supermarket toilets. The ones at work are a completely different problem as they are absolutely disgusting

Jaydafran · 29/06/2024 22:01

nobody likes a shit spattered pan

NannyGythaOgg · 29/06/2024 22:02

I only ever use Asda ones. 3 fairly local to me. All of them, always clean and well stocked with toilet paper

user1471556818 · 29/06/2024 22:08

I'm a retired nurse so quite ok with bodily fluids 😏 but so many toilets are disgusting now .Why have people just become so rude , lacking in respect that they just leave a mess .There is no need for it

Ispywithmylittlepie · 29/06/2024 22:08

I'm in West Yorkshire and they are absolutely vile.
Morrisons - stank of piss. Piss everywhere. I had to turn and leave. I was gagging.
Tesco - seems to be home of the shit sprayers and loo roll thieves.
This isn't supermarket but while we are on the topic of manky public toilets.
I had a very bad McDonald's experience recently. I actually wanted to cry. When my DS4 went for a poo (I really hoped he wouldn't but he's 4). He flushed and the loo had no seat lid. There must have been something wrong with it, an overactive flush? And the stuff sprayed back at us. It sprayed the door, the walls. I had to wash my mouth out. Straight in the shower when we got home. Fucking awful. When we entered the loo it did smell and I noticed the floor was very wet 🤢 Now I know why.

sanogo · 29/06/2024 22:09

I was going to make a post a few months ago about the state of toilets but didn't

I've been to a number of nice restaurants this year and I'm noticing more often than not that the toilet hasn't been flushed

I'm not sure if this goes back to Covid and people not wanting to touch the flush handle but it's happened so many times now that I'm beginning to think it's a thing

People use the toilet and then leave without flushing. Has anybody else noticed this?

The fact it's in nice restaurants surprised me a bit

Gowlett · 29/06/2024 22:09

I always check the loo before I leave, basic manners.
Shopping centre loos in my city were grim, yesterday.
But there was only one staff on duty, and it was busy!

spiderplantmum · 29/06/2024 22:10

I had to stop using the baby changing in our local Sainsbury's as they were just so filthy. Would rather take my chances changing her on the pram than taking her in there

Islamic people are much fussier about toilet hygiene than the average Brit.

Gowlett · 29/06/2024 22:13

Ispy, last time I was in McDonalds one member of staff was clearly multitasking doing the toilets, bringing rubbish out & cleaning the tables. I haven’t been back since then…

Shootingstars999 · 29/06/2024 22:19

Years ago in Debenhams , I once saw an old lady washing her false teeth in the sink🤮

sweeneytoddsrazor · 29/06/2024 22:29

They are filthy because that is how the public leave them. I work in a supermarket and the toilets are checked regularly. However you can put a new toilet roll in every cubicle and half an hour later they are all gone. And not only do you get piss and shit left everywhere we quite often have to go in and remove needles and various other drug paraphernalia

Part of my job involves checking toilets are clean and it is astounding how often I have to flush toilets with wee still in them. I think it is often children so maybe some of them need a lesson in toilet flushing!

Today I had to flush a toilet that had only been used overnight by secondary school aged children doing the D of E award. At age 11 plus they should know better.

CammyChameleon · 29/06/2024 22:34

Supermarkets run on as few staff hours as possible in order to maximise profits and sometimes it shows.

RumbleHoney · 29/06/2024 22:35

I went to an Asda one a couple of weeks ago and it was so disgusting it made me wretch. I had to go outside and take deep breaths to stop my self from puking 🤢 Vile.

comedycentral · 29/06/2024 22:38

I dread going to our local Asda ones, they are truly hellish. I had to pop in yesterday and there was piss over most seats, 💩 allover the pan, stench, no soap, and toilet paper bundles everywhere. I don't think they budget for cleaning staff.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 29/06/2024 22:40

I honestly can't fault our Asda baby change room. It's immaculate and it has a toilet in it so I go there because juggling 2 kids including buggy too hard to go in ladies. Can't comment on the ladies. Our local large tesco is pretty good too.

TheFormidableMrsC · 29/06/2024 22:43

I've got two local Sainsburys. Both of them have clean toilets. Asda on the other hand 🤮

CollieDug · 29/06/2024 22:45

Waitrose trumpington are disgusting. Absolutely stink and never seem cleaned properly. Tesco Royston much better.

TheFormidableMrsC · 29/06/2024 22:45

Oh and local Tesco. The toilets are right by the restaurant. I walked in one day with my son who was a toddler and potty training and somebody had smeared shit everywhere. It absolutely stank and there was no urgency at all to deal with it when I informed a member of staff. Grim.
