What does everyone even do in the evenings?

Once the kids are in bed we
Eat (if we didn't with kids)
Do washing up and laundry
Collapse in front of TV
Occasionally we have a "date" night when we
Eat
Crash in front of a film on TV or occasionally play a board game

And I can't think of any other date nights that we realistically will do . All the websites say things like "build a fort" " paint a picture" but that seems like faff and more clearing up to do.

What does everyone do on a nice staying on night?

We turn the TV off and play music videos, normally concerts / festivals on you tube... Especially ones we've been to! We get a bit tipsy and reminisce about how cool we used to be Grin

Farmwifefarmlife · 13/06/2024 18:38

Work! Now the evenings are lighter we are outside doing jobs until 9.30/10 then collapse into bed ready to start again at 5.30.

devildeepbluesea · 13/06/2024 18:40

I’m single. I tend to finish work, eat and watch an episode of something. I’m usually in bed by 8pm latest, I listen to the radio for an hour or so then sleep.

But I’m a very early riser and l my social life is hectic. I can’t burn the candle at both ends when I have nothing planned or I would be too tired for fun 🤣

MissMelanieH · 13/06/2024 18:47

Singleton here too so school work, house work the. Something trashy on tv and mess with my phone.

I do go out sometimes though, keep fit, art class, church or choir.

StikItToTheMan · 13/06/2024 18:48
  • Eat
-Some household chores
  • Watch a series or film together
  • Sometimes sit together but do separate things - I'll read or browse MN, dh will be faffing online/watching YouTube
  • Talk! About anything and everything - our day, news, gossip, what we need to do before our holiday, where we'll buy our next house...
Octavia64 · 13/06/2024 18:49

Go out - band practice, choir, swimming etc.

On nice evenings I sit in the garden. Few and far between at the moment.

DanielGault · 13/06/2024 18:50

Hope there's football on telly 😂

You will be happy from tomorrow then
2 or 3 games on now for afew weeks 😂

SeatedattheVirginals · 13/06/2024 18:51

If I’m not out, and DH and DS are at home, we cook or garden while DS practices skateboarding or nags us to play basketball, drink wine in the garden, or have friends around for a drink or to eat.

NewName24 · 13/06/2024 18:52

Usually one or the other of us will be out.

We both also work in jobs that sometimes mean catching up with things in the evenings.

We both also volunteer with things that mean a lot of work in evening - e-mails and data and the like.

But I also MN and he sometimes games. We both watch things on TV. We both read occasionally.

Plus stuff that needs doing - housework, laundry, things like banking, getting insurance quotes, etc etc.

Yep! Our poor daughter on the other hand.....

Goldenmemories · 13/06/2024 18:54

Go to the gym- weights and treadmill usually. Twice a week. Run outside once a week. Work on my laptop- I'm a teacher. Cook dinner, eat, tidy up. I don't watch much TV, maybe once a week. Text friends. Bed at 9pm but I'm up at 5.30 to get to work by 7am

Goldenmemories · 13/06/2024 18:54

Once a week- supermarket. Exciting times

UtterlyOtterly · 13/06/2024 18:54

Meet with friends, walk, gardening, board games, jigsaws, plan our next holiday, review the list of DIY jobs which need doing, Zoom call with adult DC.

Miriad · 13/06/2024 18:58

I pick up the laptop and do work for my day job. There’s stuff I need to do to “boost my professional profile” but which isn’t technically part of my job. Posting on LinkedIn and commenting on other people’s posts for networking purposes, writing a blog to make me sound knowledgeable in my field, editing photos or videos and posting on Instagram, watching a Ted talk so I can make intelligent conversation, listening to a work related podcast, etc. Basically all the social media bollocks that people have to do but don’t get paid for.

If I have any time left I might watch a bit of tv. I’m usually too tired.

Fontainebleau007 · 13/06/2024 19:02

Get a shower
Have dinner
Watch Netflix or whatever we're binging at the time
Chat about random things
Then bed
Really not that interesting here lol 😝

henlake7 · 13/06/2024 19:17

Single here. Either gaming on the computer or curl up in bed with the dogs watching Netflix (whilst eating Hula Hoops usually!).

Im one of those who runs out of motivation by 5pm....if I havent done something by then its not getting done!😎

Lego
jigsaws
crosswords, quizzes or logical puzzles
I like knitting and crochet
DP fixes things
Summer light nights even gardening - I was potting plants and weeding at 9.30pm yesterday
surfing the internet
watching tv or YouTube
reading

FangsForTheMemory · 13/06/2024 19:25

Single, retired. Housework, an hour of telly, online jigsaws, life admin, 90 minutes of personal care (face, hair, feet) every evening. Read a book in bed.

Positivenancy · 13/06/2024 19:26

Once the kids are in bed…I go to bed! Sleep is my no1 priority 😂

Oh, that reminds me. I'm religious about the guardian quick crossword followed by wordle every night.

Emotionalsupporthamster · 13/06/2024 19:32

Build a fort on date night? I think I’m missing something!

Our evenings are much the same as yours. On a Friday every couple of months we’ll go out on a date night. Less often that I plan to I’ll go for a walk or get on my exercise bike but after getting the kids to bed I’m normally out of energy for anything but TV, reading or mumsnetting.

Cosycover · 13/06/2024 19:34

Eat.
Deal with the kids.
Shower/baths.
Kids go to bed.
Watch an episode of something.
We go to bed.

Rinse and repeat.

GardenersWord · 13/06/2024 19:52

This last couple of months with light evenings, our dcs have been going to sleep around 9/9.30pm🫣 Once they are fast asleep, I have a shower. Dh makes a cup of tea, then we have a cuddle and a chat on sofa, might attempt to watch half of a film or something. Before bed, I get dcs clothes out ready for nursery when she’s in, in the morning. On occasion, might need to wash up and put pots away.

We go to bed about 10.30 most nights, as dh needs to be up early for work (6am). We are usually knackered by then and fall asleep pretty quickly! Sometimes I read my kindle for half an hour as it’s the only time I get to read in my hectic house (DCs are 1 and 4!)😆Very rock & roll!
