What does everyone even do in the evenings?

Once the kids are in bed we
Eat (if we didn't with kids)
Do washing up and laundry
Collapse in front of TV
Occasionally we have a "date" night when we
Eat
Crash in front of a film on TV or occasionally play a board game

And I can't think of any other date nights that we realistically will do . All the websites say things like "build a fort" " paint a picture" but that seems like faff and more clearing up to do.

What does everyone do on a nice staying on night?

Kids go to bed about 10pm (not older either FML) so I go to bed. The one who does the easier kid may be able to sit and watch an hour of TV for an hour.

Sitting watching TV or just hanging out with my partner is a distant memory.

After dinner, I clean up in the kitchen and help with any of the DCs' homework and prepare for the morning. Do a few housey jobs until it's time to put them to bed. Then open laptop and work while gazing enviously across the room at DP, reading on the sofa with a glass of wine, or playing the guitar or browsing the sports before he shuffles off to bed at a sensible hour. I continue working until my bedtime, roundabout now. Wash and brush teeth and go to bed, and do a couple of Wordles and 10 minutes on MN to wipe my mind clean. Night after night. Teaching is not for the fainthearted, nor lovers of leisure or sleep.

Normal evenings:

Eat, watch film/TV, play video games, do exercise video, go out to sport club, odd bits of housework/gardening or go out for the big shop.

Date nights:

Eat fancier food either home cooked or takeaway, more interesting or anticipated film with candles lit for lighting, play board games.

Not overly exciting but just enjoy spending quality time with him really. Proper dates we go out for, usually dinner, gigs, cinema, cocktail bars, historical visits, forest walks, crazy golf, bowling, escape rooms etc.

I pick up the laptop and do work for my day job. There’s stuff I need to do to “boost my professional profile” but which isn’t technically part of my job. Posting on LinkedIn and commenting on other people’s posts for networking purposes, writing a blog to make me sound knowledgeable in my field, editing photos or videos and posting on Instagram, watching a Ted talk so I can make intelligent conversation, listening to a work related podcast, etc. Basically all the social media bollocks that people have to do but don’t get paid for.

If I have any time left I might watch a bit of tv. I’m usually too tired.

You do that every evening?

parentfodder · 14/06/2024 14:20

We don't usually manage to sit down til 830 and we go to bed at 930!!!
Usually just watch a bit of tv.

On a weekend we stay up a bit later and will either watch a film, comedy show, play music or a game

RedPony1 · 14/06/2024 14:27

We're DINKY's

I finish work about 5pm
Get to the stables for 5:30pm
Get home from there around 8/8:30pm
Partner gets home around 8pm after doing overtime or private work
One of us cooks dinner whilst one does any tidying/chores
Eat around 9:30pm
Wash Up
Watch TV together
Get to bed around 11:30pm ready for 5:30am alarm

CraverSpud · 14/06/2024 15:14

Would love to say, play board games, knit, read novels, write in a journal but in reality, we eat. watch crap TV- (Netflix or similar) and argue about what fun we used to have!

Single, retired. Housework, an hour of telly, online jigsaws, life admin, 90 minutes of personal care (face, hair, feet) every evening. Read a book in bed.

90 minutes of personal care....I'm intrigued. I think that deserves a thread of its own.

Mine is brush teeth, take off make up (if applicable) and bit of moisturiser if I remember.

I bet you look lovely.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 14/06/2024 15:49

Build a fort? With your partner after kids have gone to bed? Surely that's a do with kids use?!

DanielGault · 14/06/2024 17:18

Waiting for the football this evening 😁

ThisNoisyTealLurker · 14/06/2024 18:13

I work 3-5 evenings a week but otherwise once the dishwasher is loaded and the kids are in bed, it’s a film/series, look at our phones, tea and snacks before bed. Sounds pretty boring but I love it.

fieldsofbutterflies · 14/06/2024 18:15

Watch TV, get takeaway, sit and chill in the garden with the animals, mess around online, watch a movie or two, play with the dog - all sorts.

Purplecatshopaholic · 14/06/2024 18:17

We eat dinner together, no phones etc allowed, just talking.
We take the dogs out. Maybe relax with a film. Tonight apparently there’s football on, so we will be watching that! Try and relax really as my work day is pretty full on. Generally early to bed as we are up early with the dogs.

mondaytosunday · 14/06/2024 21:23

I live with my 19 year old DD. One of us (usually me as she has college most days) cooks dinner then settled down to whatever series we are watching. I might do some crocheting at the same time, and she might do some of her artwork for college (she's doing a standalone Art Foundation diploma). When she goes up to bed I take the dogs out for a walk then a bit of tidying then bed, where I read for a bit.
When my husband was alive it was similar but later as he didn't get home til 8. Dinner and chat then a series.
Nighttime is chill time in this household! The days are busy enough.

Firtreeandpinecones · 14/06/2024 21:27

Read a book
Housework
Attend to pets
Write an essay for a course I'm doing
Prepare for work the next day
Drink rum
