What does everyone even do in the evenings?

Once the kids are in bed we
Eat (if we didn't with kids)
Do washing up and laundry
Collapse in front of TV
Occasionally we have a "date" night when we
Eat
Crash in front of a film on TV or occasionally play a board game

And I can't think of any other date nights that we realistically will do . All the websites say things like "build a fort" " paint a picture" but that seems like faff and more clearing up to do.

What does everyone do on a nice staying on night?

Eat
Watch an episode of something
Collapse into bed and read for a bit.

Whenthechipshitthefan · 13/06/2024 20:10

A lot of you have a lot more energy than me. But then I haven't had a full nights sleep in 3 years.
@eurochick sounds like my evening

We turn the TV off and play music videos, normally concerts / festivals on you tube... Especially ones we've been to! We get a bit tipsy and reminisce about how cool we used to be Grin

I love this

Bathe my children.
Make dinners.
Brush teeth.
Get my 5 year old to sleep after multiple story books.
Battle the baby to sleep.

collapse in bed 😂

Ispywithmylittlepie · 13/06/2024 20:15

I can't wait to see what face DH pulls when I announce the next date is fort building or painting ;)
We like to lay in bed and watch Netflix once the kids are asleep that is. Can't exactly watch Bridgerton with kids running a mock.

solvendie · 13/06/2024 20:15

Gym, swim, run, walk dog, cook, bake, clean, podcasts, audiobooks, golf, read, documentaries, surf internet, phone chat catch up with family and friends….there’s loads I like to do but not enough time to do it!

Boxina · 13/06/2024 20:15

DH and I have recently started doing Ceroc, other evenings he goes to martial arts, I go to band rehearsal, otherwise we watch TV.

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 13/06/2024 20:17

After both kids are asleep we get somewhere between 30 mins and 2 hours (very variable) before DS reappears 🙄 and at that point I usually go to bed.

We talk, watch tv/film, listen to music, do housework, have sex.

it’s very limited adult time and always feels rushed.

TheNinny · 13/06/2024 20:33

eat, then do bath/bedtime routine for Dd and once she’s asleep, I workout while watching tv at same time(exercise bike/walk board) or sometimes video chat with family, or clean/tidy up /organise if anything needs specific attention. Early night every so often but i normally stay up quite late as DD isn’t an early bedder. When DH is home and does bath/bedtime, i will walk with a pal outside or listen to audio book if on own.

I work full time so most fun stuff is at weekend.

TheNinny · 13/06/2024 20:40

pre child I used to run most evenings or garden but now it’s mainly exercise bike or walking 😩

Mairzydotes · 13/06/2024 20:44

Most of my evening seems to be spent trying to get the dc to sleep.

Jennyathemall · 13/06/2024 20:50

Once the kids are in bed (830-9pm) we’ll chat, Netflix or a movie, or have sex a few times a week.

TheChosenTwo · 13/06/2024 20:52

The youngest is 12 and he goes up at 9 and gets tucked in at 9:30 during the week (this does just consist of one of us going up and saying goodnight and giving a kiss, it’s not an arduous task!) We do say sometimes how much we miss the days when our dc were small and were in bed by 7:30 and our switching off was early!
We just sort of please ourselves, might watch a documentary or something together, I might go out for a swim before or after dinner, one of us may just be out, he might watch football, if it’s a nice evening (yeah right 😂) we might sit in the garden together and chat.
No housework though, that’s usually done after I finish work when dh is cooking dinner.

Stungbyabee · 13/06/2024 20:57

I'm a teacher so marking, planning, reports, emails etc. I was up until gone midnight working last night 😞. I want to leave teaching mainly so I can have my evenings back.

BobbyBiscuits · 13/06/2024 20:57

In an ideal world, smoke weed, drink Jameson's and champagne, order deliveroo from 2 different restaurants, watch a movie, cuddle the cat, maybe some ice-cream for afters.

In reality smoke weed, drink really cheap pinot grigio, fall asleep, wake in the middle of the night night to feverishly devour chocolate. Cat's been sick on the carpet again.

Anxiousandie · 13/06/2024 20:59

Drink wine 🙊

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 13/06/2024 21:00

Tonight we plan to drink some gin, watch some sci-fi and then snuggles.

Beepbeepvroomvroom · 13/06/2024 21:01

Kids in bed at 7. All tidying/dinner etc has been done before they go to bed. Then we literally do nothing but chill on the sofa watching TV. Bliss.

Noonecares245 · 13/06/2024 21:01

I'm surprised no one has said posting on MN? It's usually busy around this time 😆

familyissues12345 · 13/06/2024 21:01

Watch TV generally - although we have teens, so there is no such thing as what do we do when they've gone to bed, as normally we're in bed before them Grin

VeryStressedMum · 13/06/2024 21:08

As little as possible. After dinner is served and dogs fed I sit down and look at stuff on my phone then I go up to bed and watch tv and scroll phone. I don't do any chores, I am up at about 5am and work and do everything that needs to be done the whole day so by the evening I am knackered.
My children are grown up late teens and twenties

Ilovelurchers · 13/06/2024 21:15

We go to bed early, and quite often we have sex! Also loll around in each others' arms for a bit,, murmuring nice things to each other.

I invested in a TV for the bedroom recently too - best £200 I ever spent. We watch all kinds of reality crap. Sport sometimes too (we both love the snooker). Maybe a stupid action film on a weekend.

I am an avid reader. He reads shit on the internet.

Once in a blue moon we go to the theatre or a gig or the cinema. That's really unusual tho. I would like to do it more, but we don't.

ClawdeenWolf · 13/06/2024 21:20

Single mum, virtually no outside support. DC goes to bed and I do too. Watch stuff on the TV in bed, ideally asleep by 10pm. Work Monday to Friday. Assume at some point it'll get better.

TheMoth · 13/06/2024 21:38

Term time:
Mon- Thurs I'm usual home by about 6. Unless i go to gym. Talk to kids/sort tea. Work for a couple of hours. Do any offspring related admin. Bed to read.

Dh: home roughly same time. Sorts tea/ wash up. Watches TV and phone all evening. I feel he doesn't appreciate the freedom he has.

Holidays: I never really know what to do with my evenings, although i read more and widely. Remember i have friends, but that they are busy. It's sad. I've become institutionalised.

Farmwifefarmlife · 13/06/2024 18:38
