To ask if you drink alcohol everyday?

knockknockw · 12/06/2024 19:39

I’m having a break from alcohol as I’ve drank far too much recently. I’m about 10 days alcohol free atm.

Been thinking about my drinking a lot recently, and I’ve realised whenever I try to keep 3-5 days alcohol free, it inevitably creeps up again until im drinking everyday again. Not a lot mind, one or two a day and always with dinner, (more on weekends)

does anyone else drink daily with dinner?

And if you don’t drink, how’s life without alcohol?

Nope once a week at most and that's only on a weekend

QuickDraining · 12/06/2024 19:47

I would drink every day if I could. But to be honest when I'm out the habit, I start to enjoy doing things that I can't when drinking. Booze makes you pretty stupid.

(Not a big drinker, would be happy with a pint a day.)

missshilling · 12/06/2024 19:48

No, usually weekends only for me.

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 12/06/2024 19:48

No. Usually once a week, on either a Friday or Saturday evening.

I usually have 1 cider, maybe 2 on a rare occasion.

I like it as a drink but I’m not a fan of being drunk. I’m also very overweight and don’t really want to all the excess calories.

Tbskejue · 12/06/2024 19:49

I found that my intake was creeping up last summer so I stopped drinking for a month and I now drink less than before. It became a habit of a glass most nights but now I can take it or leave it and it’s been nice when we go out for meals to go further because I’m happy to drive rather than wanting to both have a drink.
I think a break from it can make you rethink what part it plays in your life; for me it was a glass after a stressful or long day

Whu · 12/06/2024 19:49

No. More like once a fortnight/ monthly on a weekend. I’ve never seen the appeal of drinking in the week as I’d have headache the next day at work. Life without much drinking is great. Saves money, better health, better sleep etc.

YellowDayToday · 12/06/2024 19:49

No one night on the weekend, and even then I’m trying to cut that down as it makes me feel so horrible both physically and mentally!

Well done for your break, keep at it!

Elphame · 12/06/2024 19:50

Yes most days.

Quite happy about my alcohol intake.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 12/06/2024 19:50

Never more than one glass of wine a week, but only if I'm out for dinner. If I don't go out I don't have any. I never drink at home.

FrothyCothy · 12/06/2024 19:51

Once a month maybe I might have a couple of drinks. Less frequently than that I’d have fair few more but it’s rare these days. DH is a much more frequent and heavier drinker and one of us has to be sensible 🙄 plus I can’t handle hangovers like I used to.

VibeOnWithMyGalPals · 12/06/2024 19:51

Only at weekends.

I drank most nights in December, and felt absolutely rubbish.

I will also have a glass of wine every night with dinner on holiday

bryceQ · 12/06/2024 19:51

I used to drink almost every day, I've been teetotal for three years and it's the best decision I've ever made. I like that it's just not part of my life anymore and has no hold on me. I wasn't amazing at moderation or saying ill have one wine on a Friday night. It always ended up being way more. So pleased to just remove it from my mind. I don't miss it now.

3luckystars · 12/06/2024 19:51

I hardly drink at all but I’m like that with chocolate.

TheChosenTwo · 12/06/2024 19:52

Only when I’m on holiday!
Other than that, definitely not, tend to drink maybe once every couple of weekends. Dd1 is home from uni at the moment though and we went for a drink after work last Friday and then we had a party on Saturday so I drank a bit then but now I’m not doing anything I plan on drinking at for a couple of weekends so nothing until then.
dh will have a drink on Thursday Friday and Saturday most weeks!

justabigdisco · 12/06/2024 19:52

Yep I drink everyday, almost without exception. Not all that happy about it but equally don’t feel much motivation to stop. It’s generally 1-2 glasses of wine.

MrsDoylesLastTeabag · 12/06/2024 19:53

Fine dining and wine are as close as I get to a hobby. I’m sure I’ll die younger than I otherwise would, but I have no children, no pension, and generations of early dementia in my maternal line, so that’s actually fine by me.

If you want to live old and healthy, you should probably cut down.

WandsOut · 12/06/2024 19:53

The problem with alcohol is that it gets progressively worse for you. So if you are struggling to not have it you maybe need to really look at what you are getting out of it and how dependent you think you are on it to have that "effect".

What does it feel like when you have a drunk vs doing something else relaxing?

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 12/06/2024 19:53

No, I never drink during the work week and maybe I'll have a couple of glasses of wine every other Saturday or so.

I keep non alcoholic beer in the house for when I fancy a drink mid week or weekends, but don't want alcohol.

I don't like to drink too much alcohol, as it makes me dizzy.

FrothyCothy · 12/06/2024 19:53

As for what life is like without alcohol, it’s fine. I have way less tolerance for drunk people when I’m sober though!

JamSandle · 12/06/2024 19:53

No, once a week or every two.

maddening · 12/06/2024 19:54

I only drink when I go out or socialise, - last time was around Easter and a friend's wedding- I have 3 weekends coming up where I am socialising and will have a drink and then the next time will be end of July. I just don't see it as part of my daily or weekly life.

Cleebope2 · 12/06/2024 19:56

I drink wine or a beer every night. I try not to but by 10.00 I usually cave. Have the odd alcohol free day but rare. It relaxes me and I need to feel relaxed as my life is so busy.

Ponderingwindow · 12/06/2024 19:57

I had one drink a couple of weeks
ago. It was a big celebration day. No idea when the next one will be. It could be this weekend, it could be in a few months. I just am not that bothered by alcohol. I have a drink when I feel like it and ignore it the rest of the time.

I am however absolutely obsessed with cold carbonated drinks. Mostly just sparkling water with lots of ice. Sometimes I make a mock-tail kind of thing with sparkling water, juice, and some herbs or other flavors. So I have a relaxing beverage of choice, it just happens to be nonalcoholic.

BunsenBurnerBaby · 12/06/2024 19:58

Drink once a week or so; a glass of wine. Used to drink every evening and looking back, quite a lot (2-3 glasses wine per evening). It took me ages to realise it messed with me sleep and was driving night waking / night sweats / depression/ impending feeling of doom in the morning. Why would I do that to myself now I know?

Workawayxx · 12/06/2024 19:59

I used to but just cut down to weekends only. I feel so much better and am happy with drinking less at weekends as it’s more of a treat. Before it got to “well, it’s the weekend, I can have a 3rd/4th glass” but now I’m happy with a couple. And feel better during the week. I’m hoping I keep it up!
