To ask if you drink alcohol everyday?

knockknockw · 12/06/2024 19:39

I’m having a break from alcohol as I’ve drank far too much recently. I’m about 10 days alcohol free atm.

Been thinking about my drinking a lot recently, and I’ve realised whenever I try to keep 3-5 days alcohol free, it inevitably creeps up again until im drinking everyday again. Not a lot mind, one or two a day and always with dinner, (more on weekends)

does anyone else drink daily with dinner?

And if you don’t drink, how’s life without alcohol?

Most nights if I don't have a friend's baby in my charge.

Droolylabradors · 12/06/2024 20:22

I drank daily in my 20s and through a lot of my 30s. Now mid 40s and I look at wine and just don't want it anymore.
Makes me flush. Generally there's nothing better than a good night's sleep and you cannot sleep properly after alcohol.

ManchesterLu · 12/06/2024 20:22

I only ever drink when we're at a party and I want to let my hair down. I don't drink at home or if we go out for a meal - only if I'm at an actual event for the day/evening.

I don't know why people have to build alcohol into their lives so much.

PottedPlantCrazy · 12/06/2024 20:23

Used to be a daily drinker. Made a conscious effort to stop, think I’m coming up to 2 and a half years AF now.

Would never pick up alcohol ever again, I feel like a completely new person since I stopped.

Of course not. Not exactly healthy.

swissrollisntswiss · 12/06/2024 20:24

DH and I don’t drink during the week, it’s not a rule but neither of us think to/feel the need to. That said, we opened a bottle of wine last night as it was our anniversary and we’re finishing it tonight. We both enjoy a drink on Friday and Saturday evenings but not usually more than a couple of beers or glasses of wine.

We were both big binge drinkers in our 20’s (now late 30’s) but gradually didn’t find it fun anymore and our attitudes to it changed. Can’t say exactly when it changed but it was pre DC.

I've never drunk alcohol at home. My parents never did, so it just wasn't part of my life. I always drank socially, sometimes a fair amount, but over the last few years I found I could drink less without getting headaches or feeling hot and dizzy. So I've stopped altogether now. Life is...normal.
I drink water, iced tea or flavoured water with dinner and my 'drink' in the evening is green tea, more iced tea or coffee (hot or iced) When I go out I just drink soft drinks. Mostly my nights out are to see bands, dance, go to the theatre though, so drinking would have happened but not been the purpose of the night like going to the pub or for cocktails, so that bits easy. I don't miss it at all. Never even think about it tbh. When people talk to me about their drinking all I can imagine is the hot dizzy feeling it would give me, so I'm not slightly tempted.

maw1681 · 12/06/2024 20:25

No I don't, only on the weekends and even then sometimes ends up being one night on a weekend, like last weekend I didn't drink Friday because I was tired so just went to bed with a cup of tea, Saturday had one G&T (double to be fair), no alcohol Sunday. If I have wine it's one bottle that will be spread over the weekend. Trying not to drink wine atm to lose some pounds for summer holidays!

Claricestarling1 · 12/06/2024 20:26

Yep, two gin and tonics every night without fail

SnapdragonToadflax · 12/06/2024 20:27

I rarely drink, and only at home if we have friends over. My partner is teetotal and I've never seen the point of drinking alone.

I used to drink a lot as a teen/20s, but it doesn't suit me and I don't enjoy it anymore. Plus it gives me spots!

I do eat far too much though. Neither is healthy.

Beepbeepvroomvroom · 12/06/2024 20:28

No. Two reasons - I don’t think it’s a healthy habit to have generally also alcohol is calorific. I’d put on quite a bit of weight if I drank everyday. I save it for a bottle of wine over two nights at the weekend and it gives me something to look forward to!

Georgethecat1 · 12/06/2024 20:28

Haven’t drank in 10 years ish….im loosing count. Can’t stand the taste and never enjoyed it so super easy for me to cut out. Chocolate and crisps on the other hand is another story!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 12/06/2024 20:31

I follow a similar rule to that for consuming oysters but based on... only when there is a vowel in the day of the week.🤪

sunshineandshowers40 · 12/06/2024 20:33

I was drinking wine daily, more at weekends. I am currently having a break (nearly 3 months) and am feeling better but not as good as I thought I would!

Sunhatweather · 12/06/2024 20:33

I was drinking a glass or two of red wine daily and have been okay about that, until I realised that it had become more habitual than driven by taste. I’ve never been someone who gets drunk or binges, and didn’t start drinking until I was mid 20s.
I haven’t had wine in two weeks and while I’m yet to feel any benefit, it’s probably healthier this way. I’ve never felt addicted to alcohol and have had long periods without it, so it’s no big deal to me. I might have a glass or two on weekends.

hopscotcher · 12/06/2024 20:36

I have had periods of drinking every day, sometimes quite a lot, and definitely too much overall. I don't drink at all now; it was all or nothing in terms of cutting down!

Menora · 12/06/2024 20:40

I did used to and realised it had become a worrying habit and caused weight gain. I don’t drink very much or very often anymore and I don’t enjoy it as much now

LifeisHard73 · 12/06/2024 20:41

I’ve been through periods in my life where I had wine every night but when I think back it was generally because I unhappy/stressed/lonely and it had become a habit. My dad was an alcoholic so that’s always on my mind.

Now in menopause my alcohol tolerance is really poor. So never drink in the week unless I have an event and then only one and at the weekend I’ll have max 2 glasses of wine FrI/Sat night. Even if I wanted more I couldn’t as anymore makes me feel horrible.

Absolutely feel better for it but it doesn’t happen straight away. Initially I felt no different.

i miss being able to go out and get a bit drunk but I’m also fine that part of my life is over.

50shadedofmagnolia · 12/06/2024 20:42

Nope I don't drink it ever

holjam · 12/06/2024 20:44

Nope twice a week majority of time.
When I'm on hols I would have a few glasses of wine most nights.

takeitorleave · 12/06/2024 20:45

I probably drink a max of a couple of units a month, often when I'm on holiday because I fancy it then - I'm just not that bothered about it and like the taste of non-alcoholic (not do fattening) drinks just as much... but I do feel like I'm a bit of a pariah when out with certain friends who drink quite a lot

takeitorleave · 12/06/2024 20:48

I also look at people who drink a fair bit and I don't know if it's coincidence but their skin isn't great...

knockknockw · 12/06/2024 20:50

It’s part of the reason why I’m stopping for a while, my skin is awful and I can’t help thinking alcohol is one of the reasons for that, or isn’t helping

I made myself cut back when I started a routine of two glasses of wine every weekend.

I was enjoying it far too much and one Wednesday when I thought about finishing the half drunk bottle in the fridge I told myself I had to make sure not to fall into a habit of making alcohol part of daily life.

it isn’t good for your health or mind and is expensive.

Roadaheadclear · 12/06/2024 20:52

The less I drink the less I want. I can’t face feeling rough during the week and even one glass does that to me now. I will drink minimally at the weekend but nothing like I used to. Life is better without a hangover.
