To not understand the fuss over Taylor Swift.

Now. I don’t dislike or have any hate for the woman at all. She is very pretty, talented and it sounds like she is a good person. Not my taste in music, but some of her songs sound good.

but omg. People seem to be bloody obsessed with the lady. £300 a ticket to the Edinburgh show. People queuing from 5am to get near the front.

as a guide leader in 2010 or thereabouts I remember some 12 year old girls declaring their love for her. But it seems like lots of adults seem to love her too!

She’s talented for sure, and is prolific in her output. I think she’s brilliant
lots of musicians have a cohort of enthusiastic fans, TS exceeds usual expectations in terms of popularity and has v loyal fan base

Mama2many73 · 08/06/2024 00:10

I dont get the hype either , but so many people are obsessed! Like you I've got nothing against her, i like some of her music but I don't think its as exceptional.as some suggest. Ticket prices for her show are mental but everyday concerts are extortionate now! Supply and demand well at work!

Barleysugar86 · 08/06/2024 00:11

There has always been hypes that don't really seem proportionate to the thing being hyped (cabbage patch dolls, prime drinks!). I'm sure social media has made this worse. People have a fear of missing out.

Changingmynameyetagain · 08/06/2024 00:12

Yawn, yet another thread bashing Taylor Swift.
People are allowed to like who they want, my BIL once paid £2k to see his football team play in the champions league final 🤷
not my thing, I can’t stand football but he does, it’s his money and he can spend it on what he likes.

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 08/06/2024 00:12

Well the 10 year olds who loved her in 2012 are now 22 year olds with their own income, I think that’s a big part of it.

I think she’s done a great job of growing with her fan base, my friends in their twenties really connect with her music because she’s soundtracked a lot of big events in their lives.

RichardsGear · 08/06/2024 00:13

You don't have to get it though. I don't get why women of my age troop off to see Take That, for example. I think they're crap nothing special but we're all different.

ShillyShallySherbet · 08/06/2024 00:15

I really liked her circa 2012 but listening to some of her new stuff this morning, it’s so dull and all sounds the same. I clearly don’t get it. I would just stay for the Red era and then leave. 22 is one of the best pop songs of all time in my opinion.

WildHairedKid · 08/06/2024 00:15

How many of these threads have we had now? 😅

Josette77 · 08/06/2024 00:17

I always think of The Man when people post this.

They'd say I hustled
Put in the work
They wouldn't shake their heads and question how much of this I deserve
What I was wearing
If I was rude
Could all be separated from my good ideas and power moves?

Username12284949 · 08/06/2024 00:18

I don't get it either. I'm glad my daughters aren't interested in her either after seeing all the Facebook posts from mums desperate to get tickets after being scammed and their children being heartbroken Sad. To be fair concerts aren't really my thing full stop I have no interest in them but can understand why people do. I just don't get why the Taylor Swift concert is such a big deal compared to others.

Screamingabdabz · 08/06/2024 00:19

Jeez you don’t get it. That’s fine. Stop making threads about it. TS is a bona fide talented goddess and baddy b - ultimately it’s your loss…🤷🏻‍♀️

sunflowerdaisyrose · 08/06/2024 00:19

I find it weird too, not the going to see her if they are fans, but the sheer amount of time and money people are prepared to spend seeing her from a distance! I've never got hysteria around things like this though.

Brie2001 · 08/06/2024 00:19

Meh, It's the same as Madonna in my day and the Beatles before. Is it so bad that a talented young lady is in the spotlight?

thanKyouaIMee · 08/06/2024 00:21

I could understand people not getting complex mathematics, or why people stay with terrible husbands....

but not understanding the fuss over a talented pop star just seems obtuse!

ToxicChristmas · 08/06/2024 00:31

It's absolutely not my kind of music at all but I understand she puts on a great show and can certainly sing so I get why people want to go. People have been obsessed with pop stars since they existed. Beatle mania, Michael Jackson, Elvis...it's not that unusual really.

ButteryNuts · 08/06/2024 00:43

I will admit I do have "something against her", I don't think she's a very good singer. Her popularity baffles me. Ive tried multiple times to get into her because my friends are but I don't like how she sounds at all.

I quite enjoyed her new 'Florida!!!' song, but that almost highlights how poor her voice is. Compared to Florence, compared to the rest of my playlist. I can listen to it in isolation but have to skip it if it comes up in shuffle because her voice just isn't as good and it's almost a visceral reaction compared to whatever came before.

something against her it isn’t school she didn’t pull your hair and steal your pencils. It’s somewhat of a heightened state
I dislike musicians that other folk adore. I don’t feel compelled to post about it.

ButteryNuts · 08/06/2024 00:53

@Zone2NorthLondon Neither do I, typically. But it's a thread about TS so I gave my view.

I've just been listening to Florida!! in the meantime... seriously, who sounds better of the two?

loropianalover · 08/06/2024 00:55

Why do people feel the need to declare that they don’t ‘get it’? It doesn’t matter to anyone that you don’t get it.

If you have anything that makes you happy, just apply that same logic to her fans. Some people spend 3k on football tickets, Eurovision, furry costumes, baseball cards, handbags, shoes, watches, cocaine…..

Guavafish1 · 08/06/2024 00:58

A generation of people who liked her music as children are now young adults with disposable income.

Despite a few years' career break, she continues to write, sing, and play her own instruments.

It's great seeing lots of young female fans enjoying a female artist rather than a boy band!

Well done, Taylor, who is pro-women.
Though her music is not my cup of tea!

butterflywingss · 08/06/2024 00:59

If only people would give God an ounce of the attention that these celebrities get. I heard people were paying up to £1k for tickets. People are dying all over the world and here we are making ourselves broke to make the rich richer 🤡. There really isn't an excuse.

Genuine question, you know you don’t like her music, yet you persist with listening.why?
I don’t like Adele so no I’d not actively seek out her music, to then berate the content & quality. You know you have something against her yet you persist in seeking out her music? If you don’t like her, fair enough. Listen to music you do like

ButteryNuts · 08/06/2024 01:02

@Zone2NorthLondon Okay, "something against her" might have been a bit harsh. I have nothing against her as a person but was trying to distinguish that I'm not one of the people who think 'she's talented but not my cup of tea', I genuinely don't think she's a talented singer in comparison to others.

I try listen to her because if she's so popular then I have this feeling that I must be the one that's wrong. And I'm glad I did keep listening, I do enjoy the 'Florida!!!' song (potentially just due to Florence's contributions). I quite like the one about London too.

I have plenty of time to pop some airpods in and give a listen, I'm not going to write anyone off until I've given them a proper chance. I just haven't heard anything from TS that tells me she's a good singer, yet.

God is a false construct. Let’s not encourage the adoration of made up icons
Better to adore the real icons, like, Taylor
