To ask how often you take a photo of yourself?

I’m 27 and I’ve realised I don’t have any photos of myself since I was maybe 21/22. I want to look back one day and show my son/future children photos of myself through the years but I cringe at the thought of taking a ‘selfie’ and hate the concept and awkwardness of someone else taking my photo. So, everyone out there - how often do you take and keep photos of yourself and to those who are a little older, do you have many to look back on?

Never. Why would I?

Jegersur · 30/05/2024 19:38

Never.

NeverEnoughPants · 30/05/2024 19:39

I'm have to do one soon, as I need to renew my driving licence. Then my passport expires next year. So twice every ten years.

CountingCrones · 30/05/2024 19:39

Never just of myself, occasionally when with others.

DappledThings · 30/05/2024 19:40

Never.

Curiosity101 · 30/05/2024 19:40

Just me? Basically never. There are probably pictures of me every other week or so with other people (or animals) though.

multivac · 30/05/2024 19:42

I take loads; I like to look back on how I've changed over the years. Most of them stay in my phone - some I share.

GaspingGekko · 30/05/2024 19:43

Whenever I need a new passport or other similar documentation.
I also tend to avoid group photos if possible.

YellowHairband · 30/05/2024 19:43

Just me? Basically never. I take selfies with my young DDs sometimes, if we're out somewhere

betterangels · 30/05/2024 19:44

Only when new ID is needed. I don't like having my picture taken.

BeaRF75 · 30/05/2024 19:44

Never. I can't see the point. And I don't allow other people to take photos of me either.
I truly don't understand selfies - surely they are just pure narcissism?

SanaGoggins · 30/05/2024 19:44

Tracking weight loss so I take a pic every week atm in my pants!

Now I have lost quite a lot of weight and am more confident, I try to be in pics with my kids. The last 4 years it’s almost like I didn’t exist because I avoided the camera and would cry every time my husband took a photo of me.

mondaytosunday · 30/05/2024 19:45

Never, unless it's a group selfie with my kids it forced into it by friends. But that's about 1/1000.

Screamingabdabz · 30/05/2024 19:47

Another vote for never. I’m constantly boggled by the selfie culture. When I was a young woman everyone hated having photos taken. What’s changed?

GoogleWhacking · 30/05/2024 19:48

I send my husband selfies all the time!! 🤣 Maybe I'm weird.

Sarah2891 · 30/05/2024 19:49

Never. Can't remember the last time I had my photo taken, I just don't like pictures of myself.

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/05/2024 19:50

2 I think in about the past 5 years. One showing a friend my lockdown hair and the other in front of a statue in Vienna, to add perspective.

Muffin101 · 30/05/2024 19:52

Just me on my own, v rarely these days, since having my son 2.5 years ago really… I used to love a bump progress selfie 🤰🏼 I used to take outfit photos, pretty make up day selfies, set up photos of me in pretty places while travelling, that sort of thing. Kick me off mumsnet immediately eh 😂

NeilTayloriscatwit · 30/05/2024 19:53

Do it, you're 27,:this is the most beautiful you'll ever be . I'm 56 I don't want any photos of me now 😂, I'm a fat ugly fuck. I look back though to the age you are and I was ok. It's very fleeting.

UserNumber56 · 30/05/2024 19:54

Every 10 years when I need to renew my passport.

DorsetCatHair · 30/05/2024 19:55

Never. I sometimes worry I'll die and they'll use my (awful) passport photo on the memorial notice....

Howbizarre22 · 30/05/2024 19:55

Maybe weekly- selfies of me & my dc for memories or when I’m going out & dressed up sometimes post on sm. Loads of people do this but I think some do take it too far ie constant gym selfies but each to their own I say

Howbizarre22 · 30/05/2024 19:57

Cue all the virtue signalling. It doesn’t make you better than everyone or cool if you never take selfies fyi lol

Muffin101 · 30/05/2024 19:59

Also (in for a Penny, in for a pound!) I get my husband to take photos of me when I’m dressed up for a wedding or whatever (as well as photos with him too, naturally 😇), shoot me, shoot me now mumsnet jury 😂
I’m thirty, by the way!
