To ask how often you take a photo of yourself?

I’m 27 and I’ve realised I don’t have any photos of myself since I was maybe 21/22. I want to look back one day and show my son/future children photos of myself through the years but I cringe at the thought of taking a ‘selfie’ and hate the concept and awkwardness of someone else taking my photo. So, everyone out there - how often do you take and keep photos of yourself and to those who are a little older, do you have many to look back on?

OP posts:

Never because they’re always awful! I can’t get the angle right and they always make me look even more tired, wrinkled and double-chinned than I am in real life. Which is quite.

LondonFox · 30/05/2024 20:00

Probably MN members are not average for your age group OP.
Majority of 20something take a lot of selfies, and a lot of women over 30 do the same.

I have printed photo albums and I included my photos. I have my photos in my children baby photo albums too. Everyone wants to know how parents looked like when young!

LongSinceGotUpAndGone · 30/05/2024 20:01

DH and I take what we call 'the obligatory selfie' when we go on a day trip. So I have quite a collection of overexposed, gurning pictures in which you can just about see a landmark in the background.

We also take occasional pics of each other in front of landmarks, by the sea etc. I have far more pictures of myself post-digital era than pre-digital.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/05/2024 20:03

Never except for passports, work profile pic type of things.

I'm sometimes in photos taken by DH or DD.

Mairzydotes · 30/05/2024 21:29

I occasionally take a selfie usually to document my hair . If I want a photo of myself I set my timer and prop my phone up. It's awkward to ask others to take a photo and they rarely come out well

Brandnewskytohangyourstarsupon · 30/05/2024 21:38

Nope
Absolutely not, ever and I will not participate in any pictures and I will not allow anyone else to take a picture of me.
My own mother doesn’t have any pictures of me as an adult,

One of my oldest friend has selfies all over her fb and social media, plus she has numerous pictures in frames of herself all over her house. The latest sm is a picture of her with minimal makeup asking everyone to vote if she looks better with full face makeup or minimal…
It baffles my brain.

Cue all the virtue signalling. It doesn’t make you better than everyone or cool if you never take selfies fyi lol

Ha this!

I'm currently on holiday and have posted some lovely selfies of me living my best life!

I'm starting a fitness shred next week too so will be taking regular photos of progress!

I think it's weird people who never take photos of themselves!

But.. not to be morbid.. what if you go missing?! What photo will the news use??

This is why I've stopped with filters as was getting ott but I did take a panic if I ever went missing my Facebook profile picture was getting a bit too removed from my day to day self (hope it's noted this is tongue in cheek).

rebeccachoc · 30/05/2024 22:17

1 in about 20 years. Hate photos of myself.

DreamingOfItAll · 30/05/2024 22:21

I sometimes take selfies with our pets, and we take a lot of photos as a family and when we’re with friends for meals, concerts, theatre nights, dog walks, so there’s lots of photos of us all. They’re nice to look back on.

Isitchill · 30/05/2024 22:22

I try to do a few a year. That way at least the kids will have a handful of pics of me if I die (DS is trusted with my phone).

The only people who take photos of me are the parkrun photographers. Heaven knows what they'd have to use if I ever went missing, none of my family take photos of me.

StripedPiggy · 30/05/2024 22:32

I don’t.

I’m well aware of what I look like. I’m reminded by noticing each new line on my face & grey hair on my head as I brush my teeth every morning. Why do I need photos of myself on my phone?

Missing?
You and I both know that I will always be found in a cake shop, no pictures needed, just do a search of bakeries.

LindorDoubleChoc · 30/05/2024 22:37

I last took one in October 2020. I'd taken one other a few years prior to that.

Mammyloveswine · 30/05/2024 22:39

@Brandnewskytohangyourstarsupon

Ahahaha I love this.. I've just demolished two slices of Italian coffee cake on holiday and I swear it was the highlight of my hol Grin

Nourishinghandcream · 30/05/2024 22:44

Never, I am not 14 and don't need to take selfies.🥸

Last time I had a photo done myself was in a booth and it was for my new DL.
Last photo taken of me was when I was working and it was for my ID card.

Lamelie · 30/05/2024 22:49

How embarrassing 😬
Several a day. BeReal then several checking hair, make up. Yesterday I took a video and sent it to dm of a new dress also was in a group photo for a work event.

JamSandle · 30/05/2024 22:50

Almost daily. I dont post them anywhere. But it's something I've always done!

Halfheadhighlights · 30/05/2024 22:50

I would take a selfie if I was all dressed up for an occasion and I like the way I look.

I take weekly pictures to add to my fitness pal.

I have a skin condition so monitor that too

AliceKyteler · 30/05/2024 22:52

Not once in my fifty odd years.
Well photo booth for id but I don't think that counts 🙂

Only when I'm showing a jumper I've finished, to post on my knitting project pages. Other than that, I may be in photos of my cats when they're beside me or on top of me, but I try to crop my face out.

I have lots of photos from decades ago. Mum and I filled albums when we visited Britain and France.

Panpastels · 30/05/2024 22:56

More than I used to as I have lost 6 stone and don't hate the sight of myself anymore!

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 30/05/2024 23:05

If you don't have a partner or family member to take pics of you and your son please do take selfies so you have some! Or book in a photo shoot

Ha, this!

Those same women who think make up is a waste of time and body hair removal is only to please men.
