To ask how often you take a photo of yourself?

I’m 27 and I’ve realised I don’t have any photos of myself since I was maybe 21/22. I want to look back one day and show my son/future children photos of myself through the years but I cringe at the thought of taking a ‘selfie’ and hate the concept and awkwardness of someone else taking my photo. So, everyone out there - how often do you take and keep photos of yourself and to those who are a little older, do you have many to look back on?

Never. There are no photos of me in existence apart from the one in my passport.

CrushingOnRubies · 30/05/2024 23:29

Bearly ever. Once when I had a tooth ache and I took a picture of my mouth to see the issue...

HoldingOnForAHeron · 30/05/2024 23:32

The paparazzi ones of me are more than enough. Smile

GrinAndBeerIt · 30/05/2024 23:34

Only when I have to for such as passport renewal.

TuesdayWhistler · 30/05/2024 23:37

I don't.

I avoid having any photos taken of me.

When my kid was born and tiny and people wanted photos of me holding her, I'd refuse and pop her in her moses basket etc.

There's a few candid shots that people sneakily took, but that's about it.

MitskiMoo · 30/05/2024 23:38

Weirdly, I'd say never but I've taken them from every angle today in a mirror today because I've finally settled on an outfit for DC1's wedding. I sent them to my sisters and two closest friends to get their opinion. They all commented how it must be my first selfie.

Ha, this!

Those same women who think make up is a waste of time and body hair removal is only to please men.

I'm not sure it's all the same women. I don't wear make up because I don't like how it looks feels on my face, and while I shave my armpits my legs haven't seen a razor for quite a while. I do however take selfies, some to track my progress in learning to style my hair, some of me when I go on holiday alone. My DP and friends also take photos of me. I like looking back on the pics and remembering the fun I was having when they were taken.

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 30/05/2024 23:53

Every now and again. Sometimes I take one just because I think I like nice that day; sometimes I do it because I want to edit the photo; sometimes because I like to be in the record too - if I've taken a pic of dh and the kids but they don't think to take one of me then I do it myself!

RemarkablyBrightCreature · 30/05/2024 23:54

I take loads - I’ve lost a few close friends over the years and two of them I realised I had hardly any photos of. I love looking back on old photos 🥰

I haven't worn makeup in thirty years and yes, I do look askance at body hair removal - but I happily take selfies. It's hardly a perfect-circle Venn diagram.

I dont do selfies but when my mum died I realised how much she had avoided having her photo taken.
It does still make me sad so I've pulled on my very big girls pants put a smile on my face and had my photo taken loads

idkbroidk · 31/05/2024 00:03

every day, multiple times a day! i am very conceited

UnNiddeRides · 31/05/2024 00:12

About 5 years ago HR told us that we had to have a photo for Teams. I didn’t have one so asked my sister if she had one of me. It was already 11 years old then & on the rare occasions that I meet colleagues you can see the confusion when they expected someone a lot younger (& slimmer).

Ha this!

I'm currently on holiday and have posted some lovely selfies of me living my best life!

I'm starting a fitness shred next week too so will be taking regular photos of progress!

I think it's weird people who never take photos of themselves!

Why do you think it's virtue signalling? I took my first selfie today. I take loads of photos of everything and anything, just not of myself.

I have several scars on my neck where cental lines have been and an NJ taped to my face. It's not vanity. I've never liked photos of myself, now more so than ever.

Another vote for never. I’m constantly boggled by the selfie culture. When I was a young woman everyone hated having photos taken. What’s changed?

Very occasionally take a selfie on a walk under a tree with pretty blossom or something for the family chat, but hardly ever have one of just me really. I don't even remember to take selfies with friends and family, but will pose (badly) when requested! I do love a family photo but they're often hard to achieve, so worth a try if we're out somewhere nice!

QuickFinish · 31/05/2024 00:28

Ohh, I'm suprised at the responses on this thread. I think I take a selfie most days. 😂😂. I'm in my fifties. I went to the theatre this evening and took a photo of me and my friend which I immediately sent to my Mum. Tomorrow I know I'll take a selfie in the morning as I'm climbing and will take a photo when I get to the top of the mountain. I'll immediately send the photo to my Mum and my husband.

My adults kids and I often send selfies to each other. My son sent one of him and his girlfriend at their favourite restaurant the other day and one of my daughters sent numerous photos of herself in various outfits requesting my opinion on which one would be best for an interview.

If I'm out with my daughters or husband somewhere picturesque I'll sometimes get them to try and take a 'nice' photo. My daughters take brilliant photos and I like having photos where I think I look nice. I'll do the same for them.

mathsAIoptions · 31/05/2024 00:31

When I broke up with my latest ex I put a lot of effort into getting fit and losing weight (he left me for another woman who was over 6ft and frequently posted pics in a bikini). I think I took one a week or so then. I don't think I've taken one of myself since January or February this year.

Taking photos is very different now. Practically everyone's camera can take multiple photos so it's much easier to take great photos at zero cost. You can delete photos you don't like.

I love Live Photos where you can scroll through a shot to fine the one where you haven't got your eyes closed.

I don't ever post photos on social media. My photos are for me and my family.

QuickFinish · 31/05/2024 00:35

I've just checked and I've 830 selfies on my phone 😂😂😂😂.

Sunnytwobridges · 31/05/2024 02:11

I’m not photogenic at all so I never do.

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 31/05/2024 02:17

I sometimes do. Just for me though.
Then immediately be like "fuck me, who's that" 😭😭😭🤣

Blueeyedmale · 31/05/2024 02:21

Never of myself except for renewal of passport etc.ive had issues around my photos being taken from early childhood and still suffer today but I do make an effort for to take photos of me and ds together.

Garlicked · 31/05/2024 02:29

Never, but I wish I had photos of myself. It's all very well thinking life is for living, not for looking at, and hating having your picture taken - but it never once crossed my mind that I'd one day be old and would quite like pictorial reminders of who I was, and where I was at, at various points in my life.

Meanwhile, I'm putting off renewing my passport because ... I hate having my picture taken 🙄

thefamous5 · 31/05/2024 08:15

I'm 38.

I take selfies most days. My husband is a horrific photographer so I'll never ask him to take a picture but why is is narcissistic to have a selfie?

I want pictures of me for my kids and future grandchildren. If my makeup or hair or clothes look nice why not take a photo?
