I work in food supply chain.
Four of the 'big' grocery retailers have just asked to renegotiate at least four weeks min supply, as opposed to two.
This happened in Feb 2020 as well.
Lots of rhetoric about being on a war footing, from politicos.
And then Sunak essentially jumping ship yesterday, as though he knows there is a crisis on the horizon that he wants no part of.
There is no way that the Tories have a prayer in a July election.
So what do they know that they aren't telling us?

In Medieval Mumsnet I suspect we would be talking about how to identify witches and cures for palsy. Whilst having a AIBU about outing a weird neighbour who was caught talking to themselves in the woods.

Interesting, at present to get the definitive info on the effect the plasma will have it has to interact with the onboard sensors (magnetometers etc) so I’d be interested to see what is proposed, because they can’t park the thing on the Sun…🤔Can I be lazy and please ask for a suitable link (and I’ll stop derailing the thread).

Sure, I read it here: https://www.independent.co.uk/space/solar-storm-space-weather-northern-lights-b2550072.html

Solar storm warning system to be put in place with new UK satellite

Vigil will warn of severe space weather that could cause blackouts and knock out satellites

What kind of person attacks Education for votes. Someone who hates intellect, aspiration and wants to turn Britian into 3rd world dump.

I might sound stupid, but one lady mentioned her husband working somewhere and he asked her about window covering, can it be related with sun? Covering windows, staying indoors, etc?

She was having a laugh.
Honestly, the best thing you can do is turn off the news and go out and enjoy life.

Poor old Sir Keir he's going to inherit a pretty broken state, people crying out for help and no money and a possible war. I don't envy his job one bit, but I do trust him. He is honest as the day is long.

Can he ‘honestly’ tell me what the definition of a Woman is?

I remember these threads on covid where people would blast the OP saying 'it's just like bird flu, swine flu' etc, it'll turn out to be nothing. So now I think a bit of pondering is a good thing.

I was one of these eejits 😳

Niche issue that. Don’t let the microscopic trans population be the reason the tories get yet more opportunities to screw us all over

Just like Tony Bliar was a champagne socialist. He said “we’re all middle class” while his family were holidaying in the Seychelles (when the children should have been in school). He awarded himself a massive pay rise on his re-election, and he made sure from the very beginning that the Blair Rich Project bore fruit: all for him.

If the Labour Party now had any principles, they would have vocally opposed his knighthood, and condemned his illegal war, but not a word.

Four legs good, two legs even better

Being able to accurately define over half the electorate and therefore the issues they face is not really a “niche issue” it’s reflective of a misogynistic attitude rife in the Labour Party where women’s views and subservient to men’s.

Not so niche as 51% of the population are women

Because there is no misogyny in the other partys

Orpossibly paying lip service to what could be a vote catcher.

There was a thread a few weeks ago where people were prepared to vote Tory purely on thus single issue.

Frankly I'd rather have housing, the COL etc as priorities over culture wars of any description. Not that I think there's a party worth voting for at all these days. It's all about the optics and chasing votes by fair means or foul, and bugger keeping the manifesto "promises once the game has been won.

Because that's all life seems to be at the moment - one big game.

JenniferBooth · 25/05/2024 17:26

Gunnersforthecup · 24/05/2024 06:39

You see, I don't agree. I think people might say, oh, I'd never do that again, if you asked them now - but if war was declared, say, they would by and large get on with following the various advice.

Also, nothing predicts behaviour more than past behaviour. Covid was unusual in that the mortality was very low for many groups and especially for children. If we had an outbreak of flu, say, where the clinical risk profile was evolving but the mortality was higher, or children were unduly affected, I think people would be careful to follow guidelines, mostly.

So what happens when working parents are too scared to go to work

See recent legislation For egs
. Bregs on new builds. For example. Old legislation ( cons ) re time allowed for marriage status change with interim certs and Labours proposal on removing this Etc.

Everyone has some space somewhere. Top of wardrobe, loft, behind sofa etc etc etc.

Also if you buy 1 extra item when you shop it doesn't cost much. You can get a bag of pasta for under £1.

Will be happy to let you know what our housing officer thinks of our stockpile when she comes to do the property inspection.

MN hypocrisy

wasdarknowblond · 25/05/2024 17:54

It’s the Tories peddling ‘project fear’ again. They are trying to make things as difficult for Labour as possible and as usual, they are thinking of their own selfish ends and not how the public might feel. To them we are just a bunch of fools who follow social media like sheep. It’s far more likely to do with Brexit and Dowden’s stupid remarks about stocking up. The sooner that lot are gone the better. I can’t wait to see the back of them.

newmum777 · 25/05/2024 17:55

Also we have just had the worst winter and spring for farmers in generations (well in my part of the country! So there are likely food shortages due to that …

Surely unless your stockpile made it difficult to get into any of the rooms they wouldn't care?

Also if things were on top of the wardrobe or behind a sofa how would they even be seen unless the housing officer is such a snoop that they search everywhere?

I hope if they do honestly object that they will be supplying you with food if and when you don't have any and can't get any
