To think this parking is utterly, utterly selfish?

Was out with my mam tonight and came across this fucknuckle parked over the only dropped curb. Mam is a wheelchair user and we had to go back because there was no safe way for her to cross. They do it all of the time too.

It's across the road from a primary school and some shops which makes it worse!

Pic with all the cars is mine, other one is from a friend.

Leave a note on the car next time - they are probably just thoughtless

redfacebigdisgrace · 20/05/2024 18:35

Yes it is. I would leave a polite note telling them about your mum and having to turn back. That might have an impact. They’re probably not bad people, just thoughtless.

Pettyman · 20/05/2024 18:37

Thoughtless piggery

DataColour · 20/05/2024 18:39

Happens all the time here. There's lots of thoughtless drivers around.
Actually, your mum wouldn't be able to use a wheelchair in the first place around here as there's always cars parked on pavements with no space for a wheelchair or buggy.

LauderSyme · 20/05/2024 18:41

Yes it is selfish.

I bet the driver gave it no thought at all rather than actively thinking "I'm parking on a dropped kerb, this will make life harder for other people". Being that self-involved and obtuse is still selfish though.

I sometimes think about carrying a lipstick around with me so I can write on the windscreens of badly parked cars telling them so, but I never have.

Greenqueen40 · 20/05/2024 18:42

Put a photo showing the number plate on your local 'parking like a twat' facebook page. They won't be doing it again after seeing their car on there!

BinnieBee · 20/05/2024 18:43

I'm not utterly utterly selfish, or a fucknuckle. If I seen this space I would clearly be able to see that the wall has been bricked up behind it where there used to be a drive so the person who used to use it for their drive no longer does. It wouldnt have entered my head that you're not allowed to cover this incase there's a wheelchair. It would make me think in future, however your anger is excessive given that this wasn't put there for a wheelchair, it was put there for access to the drive that is clearly no longer needed. You really shouldn't post other people's number plates either.

BigFatPuddingMonster · 20/05/2024 18:44

In my road a couple of weeks ago there was a Police car parked over the dropped kerb 😡

But it doesn't look like a dropped kerb for a driveway, it's for a crossing. It has the blister pack paving things.

Plus it looks like it's on a double yellow.

You very obviously cannot park there.

Life is hard enough for wheelchair users. Please don't make it harder for your own convenience.

tobeamockingbird · 20/05/2024 18:49

That is clearly a dropped kerb for pedestrians, not for a driveway. It even has tactile paving.

You can see the wall behind it has been bricked up. Anyway, like I said it doesn't make people a fucknuckle, sometimes people need things pointing out like this post to go oh my god yes why did I never see that myself.

It’s very clearly a dropped kerb intended to be used as a designated crossing point, hence the bumps on the pavement, which I believe are there to indicate to blind and partially sighted people that it’s a crossing point.

In person it's very clear that it's for pedestrian access. And yes, anyone who looks at that and thinks it's okay to park there is a selfish fucker.

Thank you OP for highlighting a national issue. As a wheelchair user I am constantly calculating and recalculating routes to get where I'm going essentially because of ignorance and thoughtlessness.

MalteserGeezee · 20/05/2024 18:54

Are we also just going to ignore the double yellow lines? The whole parking generally there is a shambles? I'm guessing pavement parking is allowed, but that pisses me off too.

Quire clearly a prick parking over double yellow lines. It didn't look like double yellow lines on the other post it looked like writing of some sort.

Maybe you shouldn't be driving if you don't know what a pedestrian dropped curb looks like.

If you can't see that that's a pedestrian access dropped kerb, you need to hand your licence back.

Ihateslugs · 20/05/2024 19:00

I have had a blue badge for five years due to very limited walking ability and even though I am allowed to, I have never parked on double yellow lines! I think years of parking have scared me off!

I would also know this was a crossing place, another reason to avoid parking there.

I guess the person has “ just popped “ to the school or the shop and “won’t be long” which makes it OK!

No it doesn’t!

Ladyluckinred · 20/05/2024 19:04

I’d definitely have some pre prepared notes with me to leave on cars doing this, adding that I’ve also taken a picture. I remember this happening when I used to take my Nan out, it really is so selfish. There’s absolutely no excuse, it’s as clear as day what the drop curb is for! I’m sorry you and Mum has to go home OP xx

IClaudine · 20/05/2024 19:04

BinnieBee if you think that is a dropped kerb that used to be for driveway access, you need to re-read the highway code or something.

It is absolutely beyond selfish and extremely stupid to park over what is clearly a pedestrian dropped kerb.

QuestionableMouse · 20/05/2024 19:06

To be fair to @BinnieBee i probably should have posted a street view pic at the same time.

Was really disappointing that we had to turn back because it had been a nice walk until then.

Even if your theory about a blocked up wall had been correct, that doesn't mean you can arbitrarily decide that your wish to park trumps the dropped kerb.

There is no justification for this kind of arseholery.
