To think this parking is utterly, utterly selfish?

Was out with my mam tonight and came across this fucknuckle parked over the only dropped curb. Mam is a wheelchair user and we had to go back because there was no safe way for her to cross. They do it all of the time too.

It's across the road from a primary school and some shops which makes it worse!

Pic with all the cars is mine, other one is from a friend.

Facebook and your local page is perfect for this.

IClaudine · 20/05/2024 19:08

How can anyone vote that the OP is being unreasonable?

SirAlfredSpatchcock · 20/05/2024 19:08

I don't accept that these people are 'just thoughtless', in deliberately taking away the rights of other road/pavement users.

Would they also be 'just thoughtless' if they sped past the entrance to a nursery at finishing time and ignored the little children who may dart into the road?

Would they also be 'just thoughtless' if they sat there revving aggressively at a disabled person using a crossing, because they needed twice as long as the 'standard' time to cross safely?

I have no patience at all with people who have so many rights and so much privilege that they will quite cheerfully take away the limited rights of much less privileged people without even thinking twice about it. Utterly selfish and so nasty; 'just thoughtless' really does not wash with me at all.

To be fair to @BinnieBee i probably should have posted a street view pic at the same time.

Was really disappointing that we had to turn back because it had been a nice walk until then.

No it's totally obvious from what you posted that it's a dropped kerb for pedestrian access. Everyone else on the thread can see that too.

This, with knobs on. Consideration for other users of a public space should be absolutely inherent to anyone operating one of the largest and most dangerous things in it.

Pottedpalm · 20/05/2024 19:13

You would have to be particularly thick to think it was ok to park there.

K0OLA1D · 20/05/2024 19:14

Yeah, I don't even drive and known that you should never park there. Even from the original picture.

CallThatCloudy · 20/05/2024 19:15

Its normal isn't it? By which I mean it has become so normalised that there is no thought process at all that says "I shouldn't do this" or "Is this OK?" None of those cars should be on the pavement, on a dropped kerb or on double yellow lines. End of. There is talk about making pavement parking illigal, but unless it is policed, what difference will that make? Speeding, drink driving, pavement parking, they all have to be embedded in people's psyche as things that just aren't done. Sadly... fat chance.

northernballer · 20/05/2024 19:15

You would have to be an absolute moron to think you could park there.

BinnieBee · 20/05/2024 18:43

I'm not utterly utterly selfish, or a fucknuckle. If I seen this space I would clearly be able to see that the wall has been bricked up behind it where there used to be a drive so the person who used to use it for their drive no longer does. It wouldnt have entered my head that you're not allowed to cover this incase there's a wheelchair. It would make me think in future, however your anger is excessive given that this wasn't put there for a wheelchair, it was put there for access to the drive that is clearly no longer needed. You really shouldn't post other people's number plates either.

What the hell are you on about? That’s a dropped kerb for a pedestrian crossing point you muppet. As clearly shown by the bumps to help blind people find it.

It’s illegal to park over any kid of dropped kerb.

I'm amazed someone has come on and defended the parker.

ValleyClouds · 20/05/2024 18:54

Thank you OP for highlighting a national issue. As a wheelchair user I am constantly calculating and recalculating routes to get where I'm going essentially because of ignorance and thoughtlessness.

Sometimes there is no other route.

Then you stay at home that day. Hopefully not missing anything too important.

ForestForever · 20/05/2024 19:28

I think said person probably wont be coming back so I wouldn’t worry too much. If they’ve got any common sense they’ll bow out with their tail between their legs. They may be “thoughtless” but you’d have to be a total amoeba to try and come back and defend yourself after reading the replies.

Wall looks like it's always been there.

If you can't see the tactile paving marking the dropped kerb for those with impaired sight, should you be driving at all?

Number plates are perfectly legit to publish, they are information anyone can see in a public place and the photo was taken in a public place.

ValleyClouds · 20/05/2024 19:40

@SerendipityJane

I twice had a former neighbour trap me, once inside my house and once trying to get back in by his DM parking across and completely blocking my front gate!

dapsnotplimsolls · 20/05/2024 21:16

Not really the point but I'll be using 'fucknuckle' on a regular basis from now on ...

LlynTegid · 20/05/2024 21:27

I would report to the DVLA in a heartbeat. Assume they cannot see enough for a licence.

The alternatives are illegal such as smearing nasty things on the windscreen.

MsCheeryble · 20/05/2024 21:28

Greenqueen40 · 20/05/2024 18:42

Put a photo showing the number plate on your local 'parking like a twat' facebook page. They won't be doing it again after seeing their car on there!

Who's to say they'll ever see it? I've never heard of that, for one.

Terea · 20/05/2024 21:32

I was wondering who the unreasonable voters were @BinnieBee

I'm guessing it's your car then 🤣

menopausalmare · 20/05/2024 21:34

Scratch a note on their door.

Danikm151 · 20/05/2024 21:37

I’m sick of selfish people parking on dropped kerbs. They’re constantly blocked round here so wheelchair users are effectively trapped.
When I had buggy I couldn’t use the dropped kerbs and also rarely was able to fit through any gaps between cars. They’re bumper to bumper.
Roads round here were built in the 1800s and it’s all terraced housing so not really for cars. 1 car per house you would possibly get away with it but when some houses have 3-4 cars it’s impossible to be a pedestrian safely.

daffodilandtulip · 20/05/2024 21:39

There's a few houses opposite where they don't have drives. One of them is space obsessed and believes she can tell everyone where to park around her. One of them is a wheelchair user and paid for a drop kerb like this, with a white line, so that he could access his car from both sides. Queen of the street parks in such a way that makes it impossible for him to use it.

CutthroatDruTheViolent · 20/05/2024 21:39

Reminds me of the time I was trying to walk down Vicarage Road in Watford, past the stadium to the hospital. I had a double buggy with 6 week old twins in that I couldn't walk down the pavement with because of arseholes like this - and there's marked parking down there too!

YANBU at all. It's so thoughtless.

TitsInAbsentia · 20/05/2024 22:07

I have an app I can use to report things like this to the council - and I do use it, because in London there are a lot of thoughtless parkers/vans on pavements etc. Not sure if there is anything where you are?
