To think this parking is utterly, utterly selfish?

Was out with my mam tonight and came across this fucknuckle parked over the only dropped curb. Mam is a wheelchair user and we had to go back because there was no safe way for her to cross. They do it all of the time too.

It's across the road from a primary school and some shops which makes it worse!

Pic with all the cars is mine, other one is from a friend.

Who's to say they'll ever see it? I've never heard of that, for one.

Nearly every town has a 'parking like a twat' facebook page. Search for it, it's quite amusing and you may even recognise someone.

BinnieBee · 20/05/2024 18:51

You can see the wall behind it has been bricked up. Anyway, like I said it doesn't make people a fucknuckle, sometimes people need things pointing out like this post to go oh my god yes why did I never see that myself.

Because unless you won your driving license in a packet of Frosties, it’s the kind of thing a competent driver should know?

It’s very obvious a dropped kerb should never be blocked, and I’m surprised it needs to be dumbed down to this level.

I belive it's been posted in there but I'm not on Facebook to check.

I'm not utterly utterly selfish, or a fucknuckle. If I seen this space I would clearly be able to see that the wall has been bricked up behind it where there used to be a drive so the person who used to use it for their drive no longer does. It wouldnt have entered my head that you're not allowed to cover this incase there's a wheelchair. It would make me think in future, however your anger is excessive given that this wasn't put there for a wheelchair, it was put there for access to the drive that is clearly no longer needed. You really shouldn't post other people's number plates either.

Er, that's for pedestrians to cross the road not for a driveway! It has the bubble markings for blind people on it. So yes, if you did park there you are a fucknuckle!

Abi86 · 21/05/2024 03:11

Not the point, but how legal is it to park on the footpath? Particularly the cars on the other side of the road (they look like they’re entirely on the footpath?) potentially obstructing pedestrian traffic?

Assuming OP is outside of London, I believe it's quite a grey area.

I did once see a car drive onto and park on the pavement outside our local shop. He did this right in front of a parking warden. Silly muppet! He was threatened with a ticket but because he was so quick in the shop the warden decided not to give him one.

Cars should not be allowed on the pavement full stop. A couple of months ago I was passing a car dealership / some kind of maintenance garage and someone had parked right across the footpath. Coming up behind me was a lady on a mobility scooter. I had to go into the dealership looking for the owner of that car so the lady didn't have to bypass via the extremely busy main road Angry

It really doesn't feel like disabled people (wheelchair users, partially sighted, sensory issues, other mobility problems etc) feature on many people's radar.

Vimtoad · 21/05/2024 04:40

Anyone who has passed their driving test should know not to park on a drop down curb. It’s not rocket science.

Email the school and explain politely that your mother was unable to use the drop down kerb due to school related parking. As a result your mum was unable to complete her tasks in the community and had no option but to return home. Ask if they could let parents know about this issue and the effect on your mums independence. Include images of the car parked on the drop curb just in case they know the drivers identity.

Vimtoad · 21/05/2024 04:43

If cars are parking on the curb you can also explain the issue to the council and request they ticket offenders. It will only take a couple of ticketing sessions to ensure drivers park lawfully. Word will spread.

Pedestrians? What are those?

Obviously you don’t park on a dropped kerb in front of a driveway, because that will inconvenience another driver. As a driver, I understand that blocking a driveway is annoying.

But now you are saying there are other non-drivers in non-cars that I ought to be considering? Pedestrians? Mind.blown. You’ll be telling me I need to give cyclists and horses space next.

@SerendipityJane

I twice had a former neighbour trap me, once inside my house and once trying to get back in by his DM parking across and completely blocking my front gate!

I was once trapped in when I needed to do the school run because virgin media had seen fit to dig up 3/4 of the pavement on my street- there was a canal dug and a barrier installed across my path.

They said they had given notice- a small flyer with ‘virgin media will be carrying out work in the area’ on it was pushed through the door a couple of days before.

They just looked sheepish when I asked what I was supposed to do.

Yes I once came home to discover Thames water had dug up half my driveway!! To be fair they’d actually told my husband and he just hadn’t mentioned it to me 🙄 that’s a bit different to parking though as it’s unavoidable, albeit seriously inconvenient.

Some company (possibly virgin) decided to dig up the pavement at 3 points along the road to my daughters school. 2.30pm was obviously the ideal time to start this work. Hundreds of parents and children, lots with buggies or young kids on scooters and bikes, having to go out in to the road round these clowns digging up the pavement. The road is very narrow and has people parking like idiots all along it anyway!

Yes, we have a school at the end of this road- think a dead end with a school at the end. Short road, always double parked and has speed bumps (which are a pain in the arse in a power chair).

WHY is the middle of term time from 1pm-5 the time to do it?! Leaving all the barriers and trenches to disrupt the morning school run too. For a fortnight.

Getting my wheelchair out is already a nightmare because of wankers parking on the pavement and over the dropped curbs, without the bloody holes everywhere 🤦‍♀️

If you don’t know what a pedestrian crossing looks like, I suspect you are both.

Guavafish1 · 21/05/2024 09:07

I'd report it to the council

I'm amazed someone has come on and defended the parker.

I'm not. We encounter this on a daily basis when I am out with my little one who is a wheelchair user. At the moment I can bump him up most kerbs but as he grows idiots like this mean we are going to have to negotiate walking in the road until I can find a place where I can get him back on the pavement.

Lemonade2011 · 21/05/2024 09:13

People are getting more and more entitled and stupid, you’d need to be if you can’t see that is very obviously a crossing. I didn’t see the bricked up wall I saw the dropped curb, the tactile paving and the double yellow lines which would all indicate that was not somewhere you would park, think people see what they want to see and do what they want to do to hell with anyone else because it does not affect them. Which is sad really, access and travel is hard enough if you have a disability without it being made harder by thoughtless people. Frustrating!!!

The wall hasn't been "bricked up". It's a wall.

JosiePosey · 21/05/2024 09:18

What a shame if you left a great big scratch while squeezing past.

Datgal · 21/05/2024 09:21

This sort of thing drives me nuts! There's a blind lady who has a new guide dog in our town after waiting a few years. So she can finally get out and about again. Only she can't get far, because every bastard parks on these tactile crossing points over double yellows so the dog is having trouble finding where they can cross! Makes me really angry 😡. I might have mentioned this more than once in this forum.

Equivo · 21/05/2024 09:22

I wouldn't bother with messing around with notes or Facebook posts. The kind of selfish prick who'd park like this probably won't give any of those things a second thought.

I'd report to the local parking warden.

IClaudine · 21/05/2024 09:24

Anyone who parks over dropped kerb crossing points should get a month's ban. Fucknuckles is the right word for them.

It's actually illegal to park over a dropped kerb and any decent driver knows this. https://totallydriving.com/parking-on-dropped-kerb-law-uk/

I quite often phone the council and get them to ticket drivers doing this nearby where I live - there's a road I cross with dropped kerbs and one side is often occupied by selfish car parkers. The parking officers arrive on their motor bikes and stick a ticket on.

Yes. this is the main problem. However satisfying it may be to look at the idiocy displayed on these pages, the people who feature on them are never going to be the ones who look at them.

Just like the law of signs and notices: the only people who ever bother to read them are those who never need to be told what the sign is telling them in the first place - and they're left scratching their heads as to why anybody could possibly need a sign telling them something so obvious!

Ha! We've reported cars on our street parked right across the pavement, both sides, so you are forced to walk in the street. Also, parking on the bend so you can't see oncoming traffic. Our street is narrow, a 1930s cul-de-sac, so can't really park on the road either.
The traffic warden asked us where are they meant to park instead?? How about on another street, which are bigger roads, or their driveways? There's enough space for 2 cars on most driveways. The problem is that some households have 3 or 4 cars and they don't care where they park them. They don't care about pedestrians at all as most of them don't walk, just get into their car and drive off.
I believe in Japan you have to show where you are going to park your car at home before you can buy one. Seems sensible to me.

Actually you are utterly selfish. And probably a fucknuckle, there is nothing that indicates that is or ever has been a driveway.
