AIBU - I Think I've just been scammed by a fake Seasalt webpage

ByUmberViewer · 18/05/2024 16:15

I just placed an order on a seasalt webpage for some stuff they are selling really cheaply. When I looked at the order confirmation it said seasalts not seasalt for the company name. I did pay on my credit card.

what can I do to stop it going through. Can't believe I fell for this. Must be getting old.

Just phone the number on the back of your credit card.

shoofly · 18/05/2024 16:17

On Facebook? I've reported 4 or 5 of these in the last few days. It's all the fake comments on them as well.

Phone credit card company

fieldsofbutterflies · 18/05/2024 16:17

Talk to your credit card company.

ByUmberViewer · 18/05/2024 16:28

Thanks everyone I'lm reporting it now

Yes it was on facebook.

I'm so annoyed. Apart from anything else I've got better bloody things to be doing than reporting fake websites. Jesus why don't people just get proper jobs for all the effort they put into making scam websites.

Act quickly.

Who/what are you reporting to? Just phone your credit card company. The number is on the back of the card.

DramaAlpaca · 18/05/2024 16:33

I saw that on FB too.

frankentall · 18/05/2024 16:33

Facebook really ought to be made to sort this sort of shit out.

SoupDragon · 18/05/2024 16:35

I saw this one pop up on Facebook today too. The website had a hyphen between seasalt and Cornwall whilst the genuine site doesn't.

KimberleyClark · 18/05/2024 16:36

Is it the ad that says they are closing some of their stores and selling off stuff really cheaply?

bloodyplumbing · 18/05/2024 16:36

That's the one I got, I think so.

I reported the Space NK version of this scam to FB including screengrabs of all the comments from upset people and a link to the thread about it on here and FB sent a message into me saying it didn’t break any if their rules. When people / shitbags pay to advertise, it seems they don’t care. Hope your bank can help you.

BingoMarieHeeler · 18/05/2024 17:15

I did the exact same this week with Lucy & Yak. It was my own greed really, there was no banking security, had to put my card details in rather than Apple Pay popping up etc, so should have known!

To make it worse, my husband works in cyber security 🙃🙃🤣🤣

I just froze then cancelled my card, raised a dispute and had my money back within a few hours. Got my new card within a couple of days. This was Wednesday this week and all sorted already.

effoffwind · 18/05/2024 17:17

I did this with an apparent Joules warehouse closing and selling off stuff
Bank sorted it and paid me back within 24 hrs despite it being my own fault , was so glad

fairislecable · 18/05/2024 17:19

I have reported the seasalt one twice this morning - my suspicions were raised when it said closing down sale yet they had new stock on the website.

I opened the real web page and compared the URL(?) at the top of the page.

Facebook are very slow to react.

fairislecable · 18/05/2024 17:23

How annoying!! I have just opened Facebook and the thieving Faux Seasalt ad is there again!

Reported yet again.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 18/05/2024 17:35

I've seen these for Seasalt, Lucy &Yak, Joules, Boden, Cath Kidston and Jigsaw.... if it looks too good to be true, it is!

If you really want to be sure if a good brand is selling everything off for £3.99 or something, go independently to their actual website.

TheFormidableMrsC · 18/05/2024 17:39

I've reported so many of these but they're still there. Hope you get your money back OP

I nearly fell for it too but something stopped me from ordering. I reported to Facebook but still seeing the ads. Bloody PITA

whatsappdoc · 18/05/2024 17:49

Yes, I got scammed on a CathKidston page. Unfortunately it took me a month to get my money back from Tesco credit card as they felt it was reasonable to allow the company time to fulfil the order. 🤨

ShanghaiDiva · 18/05/2024 17:52

Reported 4 of these advertisements to Facebook yesterday. Hope you get your money back promptly.

viccat · 18/05/2024 17:53

I've reported many of these on FB and it always comes back as them deciding the post didn't break community standards 😒

FlickDrink · 18/05/2024 18:04

Oh no. I can't believe you fell for it but I know plenty of people do!

It's ridiculous that Facebook can't deal with it.
Hopefully as you've reported it quickly to your bank you will be ok.

In future, just remember if it's on Facebook DONT TRUST IT and that includes anything on Facebook marketplace even if it's from a lovely local group. If anyone asks you to pay ahead of time for something DONT TRUST IT.
